Let me ask you, smelly, how would you react if u had taken a 40 year course that was supposed to give you the best life forever that you could enjoy in paradise, only to find that it was all a lie? Happy about it? Well, it is true that we all want to move on. But healing is the issue here that you don't seem to get. Some of us literally quit living for decades, thinking we were given the 'truth'. We gave up jobs, education, opportunity, having children. Some have spent all their lives 'shunning' their parents or grandparent or child or uncle or whoever on the command of an organization that told them that they would have the same reward if they violated the rules of the game. Some could not under Wt rules go to the funeral of a loved one, or rejoice in the accomplishments of one they loved due to Wt rules of conduct. Some really believed it was the truth and that God demanded them to live that way. When they awoke from the fantasy a big part of life was over for them - the things that a false religion teaches us to do and to sacrifice are real - and these people are hurting from that lie.

You guys make it sound like the jw's r the only date setters. FYI, christianity is plagued by date settings bc its in the bible itself when the xtians were waiting for an end which never came. So hardly did the jw's invent this notion. Jesus Christ himself said the end would come in their lifetimes and NADA, ZIP, ZILCH happened. He was killed and end of story. DEAD!

Most here recognize that fact and will not likely allow a religion to trap them again in such. That doesn't make the Wt lies any less lies does it?

My parents are jw's and they are real nice people. I am happy about the moral things I learned while a witness. I am also happy i don't celebrate x-mas. Disfellowshipping is a great thing at least IMO. SAyonara

I know hundreds of real nice people that are witnesses. I love many of them. But they are so 'nice' that in spite of my spending my entire life with virtually no friends besides these 'nice witnesses' they will not speak with me or wifey. We are neither DF'd or DA'd, nor have we ever been so much as counselled for any wrongs. Our sin is thinking for ourselves. That is the only sin that many here on this forum have committed.

If you truly think that cutting families to pieces to ensure the uniformity of a man made organization, inflicting those who believe that it is God's organization with deep seated guilt that drives some to suicide or divorce or murder, by malicious judicial action against people in the form of Disfellowshipping is a 'great thing', then you need to buckle down and make elder first class, kiss alot of CO asses, go to bethel and pretend to be of the heavenly class. Perhaps they will make you a member of the GB, and you can help to shape the hatefullness of the orgaization that you worship. SAYONARA YOURSELF.

I don't think smelly is particularly interested in truth, honesty or integrity... hmmmm, probably a good fit with the WTS.

I think most of the people are okay. As long as we have helped you go back with eyes open, whatever you decide I'll sure support you in. Of course, if you heart isn't in it and never was, that would explain why you weren't hurt wouldn't it?

I wanted to share one more food for thought on this thread. Smelly obviously has never been shunned or mistreated in his part of the world, but he will feel the effects of it some day either on himself or his family members or his friends. Meanwhile he keeps coming back to this board---so I'm sure the information he learns will stay with him and hopefully plant doubts eventually.

Well, it might be a scam, but you know, humankind has been coming up with excuses to celebrate, party and let its hair down since the beginning of time. "Hey, uh Grug, it's the longest day of the year again, what say we break out the fermented grapes and party til we drop?" "Yeah party, it's as good a reason as any."

I am very blessed not to have grown up a JW. Christmas preparation and celebration provide some of the happiest memories of my life. Christmas to a child can be absolute and utter magic. You think a kid cares whether or not it's a scam?

It's just another excuse to take a break from the horrors of reality on this grand old planet.

Try it sometime, Smelly. It's a chance to take some time off from too much stark reality. Try it, you'll like it. By the way, you don't have to spend tons of money to have a hell of a lot of fun for the whole month leading up to Christmas. And the anticipation builds the whole month. Then be sure to celebrate for the next few days so the day after won't feel anti-climactic.

This isn't some quaint, harmless little church in the country we're exposing on this site. This religion is responsible for the misery and deaths of countless individuals and their families. No one but someone snowed is going to say nice things about them.
