Crumpet, you are one amazing woman! My thoughts are with you and all your countrymen as there is NO JUSTIFICATION for today's cowardly acts (WHOMEVER perpetrated them!). Let's leave the politics until after the dust has settled, shall we, as Annie suggested? There are people dead, hurting and mourning everywhere, plus emergency personnel needing support and thanks. Let's concentrate on them, can't we?

Classicist, you are right the way Islam took root and expanded was very warlike and different from the passive way that christianity expanded in the midst of vicious persecutions by Jews and Romans.

Frog, it depends on what kind of monotheism Christianity is not Islam.

I turned on the t.v. at 9:30 PA time and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Our thoughts and prayers are will all of you. It is terrifying and awful. I called my mom (Dub) in Chicago and she was getting ready for the bookstudy. Of course, "it's a sign of the times" bull starting running out of her mouth and she needed to get to the hall. Unbelievable!

Sorry if I got a bit spirited but its just been such a draining, weird, sad, and oddly triumphant - in terms of spirit - kind of day.

yes am still at work. not allowed to go early. my bosses all had me book rooms for them so they don't have to travel home. I have no choice really. won't be a fun journey - trains will be mobbed, but anyway I am still alive and kicking so I can live with it. Plus I'm not being scared off the train by a bunch of sewer rats!

Everybody travelling home from London etc have a safe journey home!
