Are there things they DON'T tell you until AFTER you're baptized?

just wondering....... are there certain teachings / beliefs they don't tell a person who is studying....until after they're baptized?.

I came in in 1984. I studied with a JW using the Live Forever book and THEIR bible which as we all know, is as far from being a neutral view of the religion as one can get. There was no study of the history, origin, founder, dogma...just the fluffy stuff about paradise, and living forever, and being ressurected and blah blah blah. The fairy tale. And at the END of that book, several chapters and warm fuzzies and love bombings later...is the information about oh by the way, you have to give up all holidays and worldly associates and go door to door now.

I was told too, after a year of being around the JW "friends" that if I DIDNT now get baptized, that they couldnt be around me any more because I was bad association as long as I was NOT a JW.

No pressure here.

Have you ever personally known anyone who DA him/herself?

while a jw, did you ever know anyone who disassociated?

and if so, did you ever talk to that person afterwards to find out why they disassociated?.

I dont remember specifically hearing even in the 80s if someone DAd...they were just pronounced "No longer one of Jehovahs Witnesses".

yes my father has passed on sunday.... all my family brothers, sister, in-laws are jws .

it is occasions like this that.

make me see why i and countless others are just faders .. not taking that bold step of disassociation .

Aw Cal...Im so sorry for your loss. I too, love God, and have totally turned myself off of ALL religions because in my opinion, they dont have a CLUE who God really is, and Im not saying that I now DO...Im saying he cannot be defined within the confines of some dogma or within pages of a book, or walls of a building, or in repetitive prayer and supplication.

But I believe in Him now more than I ever did as a JW. Odd thing that.

ugh....I dont want to belong to any group that would have me as a member :) The PA WNFJ Convention satisfied my need for "debriefing" after coming out of the Borg and it works as a stepping stone.

I agree that egos would rapidly get in the way of anything helpful coming of EXJWs coming together. It would present a great opportunity for the JWs to bomb the building tho and rid the world of us vermin. LOL

i think i posted on here that i went to the memorial last week.

my wife's dad has been a jw for over 50 years and has never missed a memorial before.

he has been getting sicker and sicker and his wife the star pioneer still does nothing for him.

That was a very selfless thing you did for him Hyp. And it meant so much to HIM. The bible talks about doing things or not doing things so as not to offend the conscience of others including making fun of any holidays they may observe...ahem. Too bad that tolerance of religious beliefs does not flow FROM the JWs. They expect religious tolerance for themselves and yet condemnall other faiths.

Thanks for sharing that touching story. I feel bad for your FIL in his pain.

What to do when your parents are toxic?

from reading people's stories and life experiences i thought i'd poll the members here for some advice.

my inlaws are extremely toxic.

i know, every person says that about their inlaws, but the way they treat their family is absolutely horrible.

Although the reason is different, I had to "break up" with my own father...as did my sister have to. He married a woman in 1979 whom he had been having an affair with for 10 years prior to that and it destroyed our mother. And my father is so pussy whipped that he lets this pitbull he is married to totally berate and criticize and put down HIS kids while holding her own four in high esteem. Well...it got to the point where my sister and I on separate occasions both in the crosshairs of the pitbull...pulled the plug on our relationship with our father because SHE stands firmly between he and us, and he allows it.

My mother in law is shunned by my husband. His sister also shuns her and keeps her five kids from seeing their own grandmother because she is DAd. And I believe that now that I have moved out, my husband will now shun me as well, though he claims he wont. I see it coming.

You have to do what you need to do to survive and to keep what modicum of joy you have and not allow ANYONE to take it fromm you. Even relatives. Life is too short and its THEM that have the problem and THEM that have the burden. Thank you for coming to your wifes defense...my husband didnt defend me at all when his own father ripped me apart over a Christmas card this year...in fact in order to save favor with his a$$hole father, he AGREED with the man. It was then that I decided it was time for me to leave.

And I did.

Why exactly, DO the JWs continue to beat on doors? What is the POINT?

i mean...it accomplishes nothing save making them pests all over the planet.

they dont get money from it, not enough to make any damn difference anyway...the magazines are limited to only two a month and they dont do subscriptions any more.

how many people actually are brought in this way?

Well if TV is unbibical...it holds true then that the INTERNET which the Watchtower Society GODS MOUTHPIECE, uses with great fervor. How do you suppose they explain that? I know...the same way they explained their membership to the UN all those years.... "We just joined to use the library"

Why do we say Witness teachings are idiotic - Weren't all of us Witnesses?

so many on this forum talk about how witnesses are stupid, ignorant, unable to reason, and brainwashed.

we also pick apart the watchtower as having such stupid teachings, and how anyone can see all of it is so ridiculous.

some use terms like the filthful slave, and the washtowel.. yet, many of us were witnesses for years, or even decades.

Vitriolic hatred....gosh why would anybody be angry at what amounts to rape? Or for wasting their entire LIVES on a lie? Or putting aside having children, getting an education or taking that promotion to help their family, or putting off that operation because the "end is near", or watching their child die from lack of life saving blood transfusions, or being shunned by their own children or parents and losing every friend they had on the planet because their views have changed?

Gosh Ren....WHY in the world would anybody be unhappy with any of that?

I came in when I was 30 eyes wide open but dumb as a box of rocks where the bible was concerned...and lonely...which left me gullible and naive, and absolutely perfect for their game. They love bombed me and told me things that MADE SENSE to me because hell...what did I know anyway? Nada. I had no ammo.

And it took many years of being told the same things repeatedly, and gradual disassociation from everything I knew and away from BAD things and BAD associations to bring me into the fold thoroughly. It wasnt until bad things started to happen where I was in Witness World that I really started to compare notes to other religions and other bibles and other beliefs which was taboo...that I saw the discrepancies and it scared the living hell outta me. Then it ANGERED me that I had been duped just as thoroughly as I had been by my second, mentally, physically and emotionally abusive husband, who convinced me that I was nothing without him. STupid, useless and totally without hope without him. I had to leave HIM too, to see he had lied to me.

Its all in the perspective. Does that bird in the cage think HE is the one in the cage or YOU from where he sits? Does his view change when the door is opened and he steps through it? Damn straight it does.
