A week without field service makes you weak! Anybody remember that?
by Bonnie_Clyde ini remember an assembly--maybe 30 years ago--and it was stated over and over again in one of the assembly parts.
i suppose we should avoid association with someone who hasn't been out in service for a "week" or we will also become "weak.
".

The last special meeting I attended was in 1984. Could have sworn they said about the same stuff. It was all about the big "O."

I attended all eight days of the 1958 international assembly at Yankee Stadium and the Polo Grounds--it was the only assembly that year in the entire world. There was a record-breaking 253,000 in attendance. I was 16 years old, new in the "truth", and very indoctrinated. I was young and in good health and had no concept of how difficult it must have been for older people or mothers with children.
Freddy Franz gave several discourses over the week. I remember thinking I didn't really understand what he was saying, but I knew he was God's representative and that eventually everything would make sense. Besides, my mind was tired as Freddy was always the last speaker of the session.
As we would leave the stadium every night, newspaper boys were selling their papers with headlines about our assembly, and we were convinced that this assembly had notified the world that we were truly God's organization and that the nations should take notice. For the next several weeks after the assembly we had to distribute leaflets about the resolution we adopted condeming Satan's world (and I think the United Nations). I remember how embarrassed I was when I knocked at a door and one my teachers answered, but I had to give her the leaflet. Somewhere in my closet I think I still have a copy of that resolution.

"It's up to You"- the one choice the Society never gives you
by JimmyPage inmy jw wife babysits from time to time, usually non-jws.
apparently my daughter was indoctrinated to the evils of halloween recently because one of the "worldly" kids mentioned it and she told him it was bad.
(although when i'm with her alone, she totally loves the holiday).. this non-dub kid said, "no it's not bad.

They will sometimes say you need to make your own decision. But in making your decision, here are the scriptural principles that you should consider..... And this is what a mature Christian will decide......
We all know that we can't be anything less than a "mature Christian."

We had a tornado alert during the service meeting at our hall. We were all ushered to the basement, and I pulled out my cell phone to call my husband to make sure he was all right. I got one of the dirtiest looks from one of the elders. I didn't realize they were in the process of resuming the meeting in the basement.

Research question re. Treatment of Disfellowshipped Relatives
by Quarterback ini do remember, but can't seem to find it, a watchtower comment that stated.
" relatives must decide on the emotiional needs of the df'd relatives to see what limited contact would be necessary".
does anyone remember this?.

I wouldn't be surprised if that 1974 article was written by Raymond Franz while he was still in the good graces of the organization. The WT came down much harder on the treatment of DF'd relatives by the early 80's and remains so to this day.

WT Society Alters their History as " The Party " did in George Orwell's 1984
by flipper infinally my wife and i got around to reading george orwell's " 1984 " .
as many of you know who have read the book that " the party " or " big brother " as the ruling power in the book is called ; constantly changes records of it's past dealings so as to deceive the public about any false forecasts they may have mistakenly made ; in an effort to put forth a positive image of itself it destroys past embarrassing records or paperwork which would expose the " party " as a failure.
much the way the wt society has altered their history to deceive the public and their own members.. notice this quote from george orwell's " 1984 " on pg.

It's a great book! Read it a couple of years ago and the similarities to the Watchtower were amazing. Then I read Orwell's "Animal Farm." The pigs who were in control kept changing the rules that were written on the side of the barn when no one was looking. Just like the WT.

I scanned the article and counted the number of times the article mentioned the elders and the slave. Not much mention of Jehovah and none of Jesus.
Elder(s) 43
Slave 3
Jehovah 4
Jesus 0

WTBTS Approves of Admitted Pedophiles Serving as Elders!
by 00DAD inapparently it's now ok for known child abusers to be recommended as elders as long as the "sin" was years in the past: .
"for example, the sin may involve past child abuse, and this would likely disqualify him for years.
" - shepherd the flock of god, p. 38 (2010).

I have a relative who molested a young child when he was 15 and she was about 5. Years later, after he served some time at Bethel, got married and returned to the congregation, his name kept coming up as a candidate to be an elder every time the CO visited. My (elder) father told me that it shouldn't be a problem because he was married now--(that's when I first heard about it). However, the mother of the victim threatened to go to the press if he was appointed so he's not an elder to this day (he's now in his late 30's) and very involved with the congregation. Too bad the girl's parents didn't go to the police in the first place. Oh, my relative has two kids of his own now.
