Want to hear something funny ?
by troubled mind inmy husband just won the city wide holiday light display for christmas i am so proud .
just a few short years ago i was the one that put a strand of white lights around the porch railing ,and a couple of lighted deer in the yard ....that brought the elders around real quick (after three years of silence ) at that time my husband was still holding onto the notion his faith was not bond to a cult .
it didn't take long after the 'loving sheparding call' for him to see things in another light.

Nephew going to bethel - seeking seed planting ideas
by azor ini have posted a handful of times so far.
i am seeking some ideas to plant some seeds with my nephew before he goes to patterson.. a little about me and the going away party where i will have an opportunity to plant these seeds.
i have a little freedom since i am the only relative that he is in communication with that spent some time at bethel.

Maybe if we could just try to fix the problems within, as Average Dub is a good person (and he is).
I agree with racial harmony, neutrality, and many other things.
However, the GB is our mediator (doesn't make sense), the WTS is our conscience (why do we have our own?).
The most hurtful teaching of JW's is the adaptation of disfellowshipping, doing it EXACTLY opposite to Corinthians, and then in 1981, expanding it to include shunning family, and perverting 2 John in the absolute worst way (ALWAYS ignoring verse 7, which refers to the antichrist), if our family were the antichrist, then, yes, they should be avoided, but, if that is the case, then how is it possible for the antichrist to be reinstated into the congregation?
Not only is it the most hurtful, it demonstrates the desperation of the group.

I tried to make an elder feel guilty for shunning his 2 children.

he's a fairly good man and has a wife that is very sickly.
so sickly in fact i don't know how she's holding on.

those (elders) who incite others interfere, coerce or persecute those who have left will be in transgression of the human rights statutes.. a person is only obligated to ecclesiastic law if he exposes himself to it or transgressed it while still a member of a religious community.. when your time comes to abandon the jw-wt cult, do it while still in good standing, be proactive - be decisive -put it in writing!..and do it before the hounders set sights on you.. write a card or letter with as much or as little explanation as you one day might wish to share with pharisees and lawyers.. take this card to a notary public to have your signature witnessed and have the writing overstamped in several places with the date.

As despicable as the shunning is, I don't think it's a good idea to get the judiciary involved.

You do not have the right to crap on my lawn.
The rights of any institution, corporation, church, or otherwise, should never surpass the rights of the individual.
The interpretation in the US that a corporation is a person is one of the worst interpretations in jurisprudential history.
NO INSTITUTION has the right to tell you who you can associate with, and certainly does not have the right to tell you to hate your own family.
Show me where that right is either granted or is reasonable.

No it won't. The Watchtower is also free to associate or not associate with people as it sees fit. And you're free to leave if you want. Your family and freinds are free to stop talking to you if they so desire. The UN statement on freedom of religion is more like a goal or a statement of principle than a law.
Not in the US.
Other countries have a better balance of rights.
