What Do Mormons Really Believe? RE: The Nov. 8, 1995 Awake Magazine
by D_Rolling_Kearney ini am a member of the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints, and i have written a heavily-documented response to the official magazine of the jehovah's witnesses, awake!, that claims to teach what we believe.
i saw an article from last year's watchtower about a guy who had barely been mormon for very long, and obviously did not know what we believe, who was given this magazine by jw's to show him "the truth.
" he claims to have proven to himself that it was true from information on the lds church's website.

Going to family outing with a bad JW
by TTWSYF ini'm not a jw nor is my entire family save for my brother, his wife and kids.
we are celebrating our grandparents 50th anniversary.. one of my brother's kids is living with his girlfriend and as a result, the rest of his immediate {jw} family is shunning him.. what, if anything do you think that i could do or say to get his (jw) family to see how awful their behavior is?.
i am asking for suggestions to get these people to think.. .
-

Actually this is sooo easyyy.
The JW shunning you relative just needs to be turned around.
Shun him.
"we shun him because he shuns us....Don't talk to him... he is a fool."
Etc.
Eventually they will see they are fools. at 80 years of age ...

Blood, Fractions Policy and Milk Products compared
by Not Feeling It inthis is my first post on the new site so here goes.... .
i was reading the post a while back from "v" on blood policy and fractions where it was compared to a ham sandwich.
this was a good illustration, but i thought it lacking a bit in that the components exist on their own as food items rather than derivatives.

Ah yes the famous blood issue.. I see no reason to prusue this today since the first tiem a JW takes the WT to court for blood in 2014 will spell the enf of blood tranfusion issues.
This issue is more then 2000 years old and I fail to see by fools (Christins) see the need to adress it.

Shaving: Wet or Electric?
by FL_Panthers insomething i ponder about now and again.
i don't shave that much, maybe twice a week so it's not even a big deal, but i saw someone at the health club using an electric shaver and that got me pondering all over again.. .
i've been using mach iii recently and fairly happy with that.

Where does the Bible mention 7000 year long Creative Days?
by tim hooper into my total astonishment, there is no mention whatsoever in the scriptures re jehovah's creative days being each of 7000 years duration.. nothing!.
zilch!.
...and yet the wt had this to say:.
-
HowTheBibleWasCreated
7000 year days were a HUGE basis for the Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained Book.
However recently the WT is moving slowly. The lastest creation Awake actually admited to animal evolution to some degree.
The next step will be to acknowlege evolution and to say man didn't have conciousness until Adam. (Jews and many liberal Christians teach this)

The City of Nazareth, and interesting find.
by Crazyguy ini was watching a video on youtube about chistianity and its founding and it came to my attention that the city of nazareth did not even excist when jesus was said to be alive.
it was'nt really anything accept a cemetary until about 200 ad.
so just like the city of goshen were the israelites were said to be from when they left egypt during the exodus, looks like another major flaw in the bible..

Nazareth is hard. There was a SITE calle Nazareth... was it a town? I think Math, Mrk and Lk thought it was<< Gentile documents
John mentions Galilee. That's all. And to be honests his idea that any Pharisee would ever claim a prophe had never come out of Galilee was STUPID.. Ever hear of Jonah? (2 Kings 14:25)
John (the author) had a bone to pick with Pharisees.
Many of these Nazareth myths start with Randell's YouTube video... Sorry Jumping over Naigra Falls doesn't qualitfy him to comment on ancient cities...
I suggest the site became inhabetied after 70 CE when Chritianity really started!

Escaping Indoctrination - Faith Isn't a Virtue.
by cofty inthe unknown writer of the gospel of john put the following words in jesus' mouth, "blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.".
persuading countless generations that it is a virtue to believe incredible things on insufficient evidence, is one of religion's cleverest tricks.. the more incredible the claim; the more flimsy the evidence; the stronger the belief; the greater the virtue.. this is the exact opposite of how we operate in every other aspect of our lives.. rational people must demand objective evidence for everything they are asked to believe.
"extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence".. leaving the dogmatic claims of the watchtower is only a first step.
-
HowTheBibleWasCreated
Faith needs to be based on evidence and if you really need a NT quote how about Hebrew 11:1 - Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. KJV
ERVs prove creation false so there... I have faith that God didn't make me so if he exists then based on evidence he doesn't care...simple

What happened in Christianity ? O.T prophets were male & female ,God was not gender specific,
by smiddy inaccording to scripture they could.
sure in jw land anybody could partake of the emblems and wine , male and female denoting they could be rulers with christ in his heavenly kingdom , however did many of these partakers actually have any say with the governing body ?
in fact did any of them have any say in their own kingdom halls ?

This is a very complicated question.
Israel and Judah and most other Near Eastern Countries were male dominated. (Egypt was too until Hellinistic times)
In Israel we have what might be the earliest text of the bible spoken by a woman. (Judges 5) Since Deborah (assuming we can take her song as having some accuracy) was a seer giving oracles under a tree this was hardly a dominating role.
Hosea's story is complicated but it is likely he married a bad wife.
Later however Isaiah mentions his wife as being a prophetess. This is VERY complicated. Isaiah chapter 5 actually curses a women ruling oer people. However preaching a message from Yahweh or another god was not objectionable to him. Mind you she might have been a prophetess since she was his wife. Isaiah enjoyed roayl favor having access to the Judean court of Hezekiah freely.
Later is Huldah and here is where history gets bad. Josiah we are told goes for an oracle from her and she seems to be training others as Yahweh prophets. I find this unhistorical. The message she gives assumes an exile thus this is written into 2 Kings.
Duing the Exile Ezekiel (assuming we take these oracles to be actually but the historical Ezekiel) alludes to possible murder of his wife in the name of Yahweh and goes through oracles of disgusting (chapter 16) and pornographic (chapter 23) views of women.
Later in Post-Exilic times women seem to become absent. Zecariah however has a very demeaning vision of a woman in his visions.
We find many women in Persian and Hellenistic times
1. Sofia-Wisdom (Sort off)
2. Sussana and the Elders story
3. Judith
However in christian times things changed.
'Paul' (possibly not a historical person) while acceping women as apostles makes sure the know who is in charge. (Because of the angels lol)
Later christians demean women's beauty. See 1 Peter.
However the gospels are actually mosly neutral to women
I therefore draw conclusions:
In Israelite/Jewish society:
Men were on top but women could teach.
Women could be excellent examples.
In Second century Christianity:
Women were below men@!
