  the jws make such a big deal about not taking (eating) blood in any form.

  that being the case, shouldn't they avoid eating steaks?

  even a well- done steak still contains the animals blood.

  i'm a 17 year old from scotland.

  can i just say this site is absolutely brilliant.

  finally found people with open minds and free thought that doesn't just consist of "well the wt told me this so it must be right".. my story is that i'm just like any other child of a jw...brought up into a life of indoctrination where "the world's" thinking is automatically wrong.. that is until i was 14 - a light turned on in my head.

  Pleased to make your acquaintance. I spent several years pioneering in Glasgow and used to work at the Uni in the mid 70s. Haven't been back for donkey's years. Love the statues of the kelpies. Well done you for finding your own voice. Look forward to getting to know you better.

  i had listened to the degrading talk by gb heard (on women) & watched a video on evie bklyn channel & there was alot of interesting questions that are raised.. i had always wondered why can't women in the hall handle mics or run magazine counter etc.?

  but they (if annointed) will rule in heaven with jesus.

  that is a pretty heavy responsibility to help jesus rule millions of people on earth, but yet they can't pass a mic or even run the sound system in the kh.

  Never mind poxy microphones et al, the only requirement for being a member of the GB is that they are of the anointed class; so why is the GB a men only club? Have the Borg forgotten that Deborah was a prophet AND a Judge of Israel? I don't recall the Israelites saying, " Well she aint gotta penis so she aint judging me." Also, wasn't it ONLY the apostle Paul who did not permit a woman to teach? So that's 39 out of 40 Bible writers who did not have a problem with it. I would call that an overwhelming majority vote, plus Paul said he was giving his opinion, and we all know his opinion of women.

  I would love to meet " He Whose Brains Were South of the Border " to tell him ( a la Princess Bride) " I am Stormcrow, Professor of Astrophysics, and I am a bloody good teacher, so thrrrrrrrrrrwwwwwpppppppppppp ! "

  Hard time coping with shunning

  it's almost 1am and i can't sleep...again.

  i hate to think the organization is still taking my sleep from me 16 years later but i can't help it.

  i run a page on social media for ex jw support and advice and i'm usually there helping others but it definitely takes a toll on me when i'm having to argue and disprove jws that troll my page.

  Hello bsand20. Perhaps it would help to think of this kind of attitude as being like an addiction. If for example your mother were an alcoholic who says or does mean things, part of you would know that it's the alcohol talking, not your real Mum. You can't end someone's addiction for them, only they can do that; and while it may seem unlikely that your Mum will change now, just think : there are plenty of us who used to think the same way who are now in recovery. It's very hard on you especially at night when those thoughts come crashing down on you. Hang on in there old bean.

  years ago, when i was studying with the witnesses, my bible studty conductor's sister in ohio died.

  of cancer as i recall.

  so he flew back to ohio ( from san diego ) to be with his family .

  According to JWs' application of Acts 15:29, shouldn't they also be refusing medical examinations by gynecologists?

  watchtower uses the following twisted logic to equate receiving a blood transfusion, with feeding on blood:.

  feeding is sometimes done by injecting nutrients intravenously.. blood transfusions are carried out by injecting blood intravenously.. therefore the intravenous injecting of blood can be equated with feeding intravenously.. hence, true christians refuse blood transfusions in order to obey the biblical command to "abstain from blood".. now notice how the same kind of twisted logic leads to the equating of an invasive examination by a gynecologist, with sexual intercourse:.

  sexual intercourse is often done by inserting the penis into the vagina.. certain invasive examinations by a gynecologist is done by inserting an instrument into the vagina.. therefore such invasive gynecological examinations can be equated with sexual intercourse.. hence, true christians refuse such gynecological examinations that are performed by someone to whom they're not married, in order to obey the biblical command to "abstain from fornication".. it's the same kind of twisted reasoning, isn't it?

  If it's ok to be starkers in front of a doctor, then isn't it also ok to be starkers in front of an artist or photographer? Surely they are all professionals;and if it isn't alright then WT please cut the illogical double standards.

  Food For Thought

  andre gide its is better to be hated for what you are than loved for what you are not.. the words of wisdom from the deceased french author echo through my mind every day, and they make me think, would the people in my congregation give me their unconditional love if i was not doing well in the congregation spiritually?.

  spiritually as in giving well in the congregation, making nice comments, doing parts in the service meeting, reading during the book study on stage, working at the literature counter, and recently becoming a servant.. of the 20 or so young ones in the hall only me and 4 others are progressing spiritually.

  ive seen the way brothers and sisters have treated those in the hall that arent progressing and dont take the truth seriously.

  Welcome Yondaime. The society is quick to tell people not to lean upon their own understanding. They only say this when people are doing something they don't like. Your understanding looks perfectly good to me. Enjoy your university years.

  I would find that difficult to believe HB, were it not for an experience which marked me deeply when I was 13 (1971). At school, I threw an ordinary tennis ball at an ordinary speed towards a classmate who had just thrown the ball to me. She looked away at the last moment and the ball struck her on the temple and knocked her out. This was scary, but she appeared to recover until later on that day she collapsed and was rushed to hospital suffering from a brain haemmorage.

  She survived, but damage had been done to the optical nerves and I was informed that she would be totally blind in a few year's time. I was flattened by the guilt and horror of what I had done, and although I had a parent I could never confide in (due to the fact that she is still the most vicious, violent, mad, obscene, perverse, utterly sick human-being I have ever encountered), I broke down in tears and told her what had happened. An elder was present at the time, decorating our living room, and he nodded sagely as Mother Dearest replied, " She's going to die at Armageddon anyway, what does it matter if she goes blind first?"

  this fellow is unique.

  he is a relatively young man who is in the adventist church.. he is smart, personable and intellectually honest.. he comes from a balanced attitude without rancor.. he is very very good at debunking the watchtower.

  I had never heard of WT Examination and have just watched a few of them. Admirable. Thank-you for mentioning it.

  On the subject of blood, I had always got the impression, via independant thought of course, that the command to Noah was not so much about the red stuff per se, but stressing the respect we should show to animal life. I can recall sisters doing their shopping, ardently perusing the list of ingredients in case of sneaky blood products, but these same people wouldn't think twice about buying eggs from battery chicken farms, or similar.

  When I pointed out to various bros that Jehovah would not allow a stonking great ox to get tired or bored walking around a threshing stone, so what must he think of veal crates etc. I was told that if Jehovah wanted us to make a stand on cruelty to animals, there would be a WT about it. Expletive deleted.
