You Know You're A Jehovah's Witness When...
by pale.emperor inyou know you're a jehovah's witness when.... being offered a scholarship to a good university is considered a bad thing.. when you see a house you like you claim it for after your god kills the owner.. you recieve spiritual guidence from a bus driver and a window washer.. you're engaged to a person you only met 3 months ago.. your widowed mother is marrying a man she met at the convention who she's known for 2 weeks.. there's jehovah's witnesses meeting in your house on a saturday morning to talk about going out knocking on doors on a saturday morning.. a lie in on a weekend happens about twice a year.. you dont talk to your own parents/children because they have a different opinion about a magazine.. you're not quite sure what you're supposed to believe anymore.. when someone criticizes your a magazine you feel like you're being attacked.. your 3yo son owns a suit.. if you're not married by the age of 30 you're considered to be gay or something wrong with you.. (for girls) if you havent married the first or second person you've dated you're considered promiscuous or something wrong with you.. you get your scientific knowledge from a magazine written by people who've never been to college and have never actually read the source they claim to be citing.. you get excited if there's a storm or natural disaster.. you get excited when there's a terrorist attack.. you get excited when there's a pandemic.. your version of tinder is the lunch break at a convention.. your girlfriend dresses like her grandmother.. your grandparents, despite being in the same religion as you, died believing totally a different belief system..

jehober "always'" protects his 'loyal servants'?
by eyeuse2badub inlast week i watched the docuseries on prime video called “the last narc”.
it was mainly about the notorious mexican guadalajara drug cartel during the 70’s and 80’s and a united states dea agent, kiki camerena, who was kidnapped, tortured, and murdered in guadalajara, mexico in 1984. this is a very well-known and haunting event here in the usa.. however, there was also about a 7-8 minute segment during the docuseries that graphically detailed the kidnapping, rape, and murder of 4 jehovah’s witnesses that also took place just days before kiki camerena was taken.
the jw’s were 2 married couples, us citizens, dennis and rose carlson, ben and pat mascarenas.

Growing up as a JW kid in the 60s and 70s every Circuit Overseer would tell tales of JWs saved from some horrible natural catastrophe or crime. I heard the tale of the Pioneer sister who was not killed because the killer said a huge man was standing next to her. all these tales at the hall or assembly elicited oohs and ahhs from the audience. Even the yearbook would throw in a few more tales. "Jehovah protects us"!! yay
Then I went to Bethel and heard in hushed whispers all the tales of missing pioneer sisters who while in service alone ran into a crazed "collector" only to have their cold cases cleared years later. I was told to never repeat the stories because it might "stumble" some. How many of these women might have been saved from a horrifying end had Bethel been truthful???

What’s up with the modern Nation of Israel?
by DATA-DOG inbeing raised a dub i never voted.
i’m not a republican or a democrat, not a liberal or a conservative.. i’m pretty middle of the road.
i want everyone to have a fair shake if possible in this life, but i definitely don’t believe in forced equality, that’s just not possible.

What do you expect from a bunch of Religious fanatics? I see no easy answers in my life as long as ALL the politicians (all sides) have to pander to their constituents' lowest common denominator..religious hate and magical thinking. I found the Wiki entry on Palestine a good memory jogger. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Palestine
PS. The 1960 Classic "Exodus" about the formation of modern Isreal is on Netflix this month. Sure it is one-sided, but it did affect many US policies and public opinion that exists today.

I was born in San Francisco and have lived and worked in a number of states. I have not lived in any other country so it is hard for me to compare.
There is a lot of difference between Americans in a conservative rural area compared to an urban area like NYC, LA, Seattle or the Silicon Valley. Even JWs are different. Each region has a unique flavor and climate.
Being that one-third of my day I am asleep, a portion eating, a third + at work, I guess it doesn't really matter where one lives! I wish the USA had an IQ test, criminal background, drug test, and psychiatric test for anyone becoming a politician though. :)

Latest awake on JW.org
by aboveusonlysky inthe latest awake (no 3 2020) on jw.org is just breathtaking, it's about prejudice and gives the following 3 examples which i will one by one attemp to debunk.. awake - some employers have mistakenly believed that women are unqualified for scientific or technical jobs.. erm... women are not only forbidden from elder or m/s appointment, they're not even considered qualified enough to adjust the height of a brother's microphone, you were saying?.....
awake - in medieval europe, jews were falsely accused of poisoning wells and spreading disease.
during nazi rule, jews were again slandered.

Hello!
by Caedus inbeen reading here for a few years.. 4th gen jw, born and raised, served for a few years which was the catalyst for me.
the politics, backstabbing, slandering and coercive tactics in particular caused a constant internal struggle.
i started researching and focused only on the stories of ex-elders/servants to see if i was the only one - i wasn't.. the rest is history..

Welcome. Ex 3rd generation here. Yes, sitting through local and assembly elders meetings learning better "theocratic strategy" to obstruct authorities (Lying &fraud) regarding domestic abuse, child abuse, and financial fraud from the local circuit overseer and "faithful slave" does seem to wake one up.

Why do Jehovah's Witnesses avoid examining their own religion? An interesting read from Scientific American Magazine.
by Balaamsass2 infor a long time, i thought pimi (physically in, mentally in) jws were unique in their inability to simply type and read the latest "google" news results about "jehovah's witnesses " or "watchtower".
however, it appears it is not uncommon for a large portion of the population purposefully to avoid facts...on purpose!
"why do people avoid facts that could help them?.

Cofty..I agree. TESTS. The Doc sent me one of those mail in Colon Cancer tests a while back. It sat on the counter for a month +. The idea of a "positive" created unexplained procrastination.
I personally KNEW Ray Franz at Bethel. I spoke with him about various things and had dinner with him and Cynthia in their room in the 1970s. I KNEW him to be a straight shooter, BUT it took me YEARS to read his book "Crises of Conscience". And even more years to add all the parts evidence together and leave the Borg.

Have any WTS quotations advising members of other faiths to examine their religions?
Yes. I conducted a number of studies with people in the little blue "Truth" book years ago. 1968/1969 ish. I believe the 2cd -3rd chapter was entitled "Why is it wise to examine your religion". That chapter disappeared in later years. :)

DO NOT make any frontal attacks. Provide fun alternatives during meeting times. Ask sincere questions. Don't chase a kitten...bait it.

It's a close horse race between two old white guys in their 70s during a pandemic duking it out for the world's most stressful job. COVID, strokes, dementia, or a heart attack could choose the winner in Nov.
