seeing as i have the wt in front of me today, i thought you'd enjoy the questions from readers from the february 15, 2007 article on the evils and pagan origins on toasting or clinking of glasses.

the article specifically mentions how not everything today that was of pagan origin is necessarily bad, and sites "wedding rings" as being of pagan origin, but it's not viewed like that now.

then, incredibly, they go on and say that while toasting might not be considered a religious practice today, there's "good reason" for christians to avoid it------without giving any valid reason why other than: do as we say:.

Deception in the Elder/MS Appointment Arrangement

the society claims that all appointments of elders and ministerial servants in the congregation are made by holy spirit.

now, the inexperienced or new witness is under the impression that jehovah, by means of his holy spirit, puts it into the hearts and minds of the body of elders that so-and-so is ready to serve, and the appointment happens accordingly.. but they actually employ a sort of deception with this process, because when they say, "holy spirit directs all appointments of men in the congregation", they actually mean that each brother considered for appointment is examined to see if he has the qualities listed by paul in his letter to timothy about the qualities of congregation shepherds.

so they reason that since that writing of paul's was inspired by holy spirit, then by extension, the appointments which happen as a result of using that list of qualities to examine an individual, the appointment is made by holy spirit.. this is like saying that people are hand-picked by simon for american idol because the regional producers of the show use a list of things to look for in contestants and that list just happened to be written by simon.

So are you telling me when I was made an MS the HS didn't direct the elders and boys at Bethel??

I knew this all along as some of the stuff I was getting up to wouldn't allow me to be an MS but I became one to keep the folks happy and went through the motions very well.

I love the HS it is so short sighted at times

JW Weddings

are witnesses permitted to have non-witnesses (family members) in their wedding party and still hold it at the kingdom hall?

i forget some of the rules.

It differs from hall to hall really

If you were baptized and have left you can't take part in the wedding party but can go to the hall and the dinner. If you were never baptized but left you can be a part of the whole thing

I looked into a lot recently for personal reasons and it was just one more thing that makes me never want to go back

The scrpiture quote doesn't even read from the NWT and it is OT nonsense as well, they just keep twisting things to suit their own needs

I had to laugh at the sentiment where they say "but no we can't stone them now" too bloddy right you can't ar*e hole!! It isn't even talking about leaving the borg and it is not talking about being apostate

Man I really hate the way they go on and I am so glad to be oot!!

Clergy and Dog Collars

i was wondering if anyone knew why the clergy wore dog collars?.

it bugs me when i see them walking around the shops with it on as in a look at me kind of way surely this is not a bible thing, the same goes for bishops etc and all the garb that they wear is this right.

What would you notice first if you went back to a Kingdom Hall?

first thing i'd notice is how the old ones got so much older and how the kids became adults and are taller than me.. next thing i'd notice would be how long and dull the meetings are.. *yawn*.

I was in a hall recently for a wedding and I agree with Juni it was the smell, don't get me wrong it wasn't stinky just a certain pong that prevades KH's

Man I was in for less than an hour and couldn't wait to get out I hated it and the talk oh man, 3 cord this, 3 cord that, do me a favour

If there is a last day then yes if they didn't guide the flock correctly

At the end of the day LT I guess we should be taking care of ourselves and let others get on with it, I mean the churches are doing what they think is right JW's included by the way.

I'm off topic now but why did god give us free will if we can't use it does that not seem cruel? I raised that with an elder and he said use it with in the confines of the truth? That was the whole problem though the confinement and not being able to think and make choices.

Perhaps I do judge the clergy for what they wear but I don't lie awake thinking about it thankfully

Told off for goaty beard but showed them verse about not shaving the bad boy, they hit back with a farticle about not having them. I showed them something about tatoos in the same verse Lev I think it is so they let it lie, I said one rule for that another for this make your minds up. I think my card was marked though

Also told off for pink shirt and tie being too thin, I mean come on!!
