  I got another tattoo!

  well, its not so much a new tattoo but having an old one expanded to cover more of my shoulder.

  i got most of it done yesterday, but we ran out of time and so i had to go back this afternoon to get it finished off.

  and having a tattoo over the top of where it was only tattoo'd the previous day hurts so much!

  Gadget- nice work! It looks very good where you have it; just remember to slather it with sunblock when you wear short sleeves, so it will stay sharp looking.

  kls- you're never too old! In fact, a lot of times people really regret the tattoos they got when they were 18 or 20, they tend to get lots of designs that just don't look good 20 years down the road. However, in your 40's, you have developed a better sense of yourself, and will likely choose something of lasting beauty. Ask my mom, she's 63 and saving up for her 5th tat. She got her first one less than ten years ago.

  Please becareful when mowing your lawn

  this past weekend a two year old boy was run over by his father riding a lawn mower.

  the father did not see his son walk in back of the mower when he was backing up.

  the child lost his left leg and toes on his other foot.

  Detective-it was a hot summer, and he'd waited 'till dusk to mow. He was finishing up near where the porch light was, but the main part of the yard was pretty dark. Also, I wasn't there to see it, I only heard about it later, so I'm going by what he said. At any rate, the injuries were too messy, and the toes too chopped up, to consider reattaching them, so I guess it's nice in a way that the toe didn't go entirely to waste.

  yup - next week, i'll be going to school.

  not just any school, though.. i'll be going to the headquarters for monolithic domes in italy, tx and taking a week-long course on how to build their dome homes.

  SO COOL! I've been wanting to build a monolithic dome ever since I worked in one at the age of 16 (an aquarium store in Austin-check it out if you get the chance, it's on a side street off Ben White, sort of across from the Southwood.). What amazed me was how much bigger the building looked from the inside, than from the outside. It was always a comfortable temperature, and they did not run air conditioning.

  Please let us know how the school goes, and by all means, send us some photos of your dream dome once you have it built! Have fun!

  Awful stories, all. (Elsewhere, thank God for your instincts!) My father ran over his foot a few years ago, and the mower blades ripped the steel toe out of his boot and tore off 2 1/2 toes (one was badly injured but they saved a nubbin of it.).While he was staggering around looking for his car keys, a racoon ATE one of the severed toes; he lives in a pretty remote spot and racoons are always lurking near his house.

  Since the day I saw what was left of his foot, I've been too scared to push a mower, so I hire guys to do it for me. Celtic, I'd throw the work your way, but I'm afraid it would be too much of a commute to be worth your while.

  Memory Lane

  mrs. exjdub and i were talking about the jwd board the other night and, after discussing many of the topics that are on the board, we started reminiscing.

  pretty soon we started laughing until we had tears in our eyes remembering the "joy" of conventions in the old days.

  mrs. exj remembers camping in scarborough, maine during the convention and waking up in the morning to damp sleeping bags from the moisture in the air, trying to run to the community showers before the session, feeling dirty all of the time because of the dust, sitting in the blazing sun at the racetrack, getting rained on, etc.

  I remember a big district convention in Montreal, Canada, probably 1988 or 89. It was a really hot summer, and there did not seem to be enough oxygen in the dome where the assembly was, so I passed out. I couldn't believe I fainted, but I was not the only one, a bunch of people just keeled over and had to be taken to a room and made to sit on the cold concrete floor to recover. I guess when you consider the heat, size of the closely-packed crowd, and the fact that I was wearing pantyhose, slip, long dress, etc., it makes sense.

  The only good part about that experience was the scorchingly hot brother that I got to lean on when I was walking- brown eyes, a French accent, and heck, a wedding ring. Still a cutie, though.

  That was the same assembly where my mom, practicing a phrase I'd taught her in a foreign language, used the wrong word and said something incredibly obscene to a young man of that nationality, scarring him for life.

  My mom loaned me a book called "Grimm's Grimmest" a couple of years ago. It had all of Grimm's fairytales, as they were originally written-lots of sex, torture, and murder. I read them to my true love as we drove cross-country, to pass the time. We were both amazed at the brutality of these stories, and could not imagine how they morphed into their present day, watered-down children's versions. Interesting book for adult readers, though.

  WAKE ME UP PLEASE

  i just didn't get the quality of sleep last night i should have (nor the hours either) and today i am just dying.. .

  driving to work this morning i had to be so careful to stay awake, so as not to have an accident.. .

  and doing that for what took today an hour and 45 minutes to get here was toooooo long.. .

  Sassy- be careful, hon, when you drive home. Sleep deprivation can be as bad as intoxication when you try to drive. Try putting a thick rubber band around your wrist and snapping it occasionally to keep yourself awake. Also, when driving home, turn up the radio REALLY LOUD and sing along with all the songs.

  Love is this absolutely irrational compulsion to value another person above yourself. We see it when someone risks life and limb to save their loved one from harm, and we see it when someone passes up a great promotion in order to stay where they are, with the one they love

  As a result, love tends to bring us sadness as much as it brings us joy. Doesn't seem fair, does it?

  a question for the 'mericans, of which we have one or two here.

  you've probably communicated with more brits here than you had in all your life before joining this board.. leaving aside the stereo type brit of the movies, stiff upper-lip, unarmed policemen, morris minors and mini's, are we just as you expected us to be?.

  So far, the Brits I've met have been pretty much like people here in my home town. Granted, they talk about tv shows I've never seen, eat foods I've never heard of, and use expressions that I don't always understand (such as "ruddy balmpot"); however, those are such minor details, which just make things more interesting.

  It would be nice to hear the voices of some of these posters. I don't think British people are fully cognizant of how their accents affect a lot of Americans; I for one could listen to your people read a phone book, and find it....enthralling. I love to watch Stephen Rea movies, in large part because of that sexy Irish accent.

  I wanted to listen to Little Toe's final talk (for more acedemic reasons), but I'm not very good with computers and am not sure how to open the file.
