I hated it with a passion, even when I was an auxilliary pioneer. I went because, like you, I felt that I had to. It was so nice to stop going! I hope you're able to quit soon, too.

Whats the most unhealthiest place you've ever ate at?
by dustyb inthere's this place here in town called "babe's".
its soooooooooooooooo good, but the only drawback is that the hamburger is more grease and fat than it is meat.
they'll actually take the dripping fat with the spatula and throw it back in the burger and start smashing it in.

There's a Mexican/Irish restaurant near my home. Yes, Mexican and Irish, together on the same plate. The first time we went there, it tasted ok, but then I got food poisoning. Then, for some reason, WE WENT BACK numerous times. To their credit, on subsequent visits, I only got indigestion.
Another nasty place to eat is Applebee's, a big chain in the U.S., also KFC in my town is very dirty. We used to have a Denny's, but they had too many cases of food poisoning and got shut down, finally.

Thou shalt not stayeth at the Day's Inn
by RunningMan inand god spake unto his people, ?thou shalt not stayeth at the days inn?.
what, you ask, am i talking about?
well, last week at my mother in law?s meeting, a letter was read, which was subsequently relayed to us (and any other heathens who might have transgressed the list of holy hotels).

OK, here's a cool reversal of the discount room thing:
This woman I used to work with was an inactive JW. Her mom used to bring her the literature, so she knew when all the assemblies were. So, she and her hubby (a 7th day Adventist) would just check the list when they wanted to go on a weekend getaway, then call the hotel and say she was a witness, in order to get the discount. No, they did not attend the assembly.
But it always made me wonder why someone would choose to stay in a building full of dubs in order to save, what, like ten bucks? Especially when she would run into people she knew, she said it was always uncomfortable, but she said she got a kick out of it anyway. Huh, maybe that's where all the rooms went!

How the WatchTower steals your life!
by Maverick inby filling our waking hours with taskes to perform the watchtower takes the most valuable thing we have in limited supply, time.
as one runs the maze of jw duties they are kept busy until that one can no longer keep up and then what is their reward?
they are left behind!

That's an excellent point, Blondie, about alcoholic spouses. Over the past year, I've considered several times going to a church or synagogue to worship, but every time I chicken out. I'm just so scared of getting trapped again. This is something I resent deeply, the fact thet the borg has turned me so paranoid/distrusting/fearful.
But on the other hand, it's been really nice working in my yard on weekends, instead of field service, meeting, and personal study. Amazing how much more we can get done without those unrealistic goals hanging over our guilt-ridden heads!

Thank you, hillary_step, for confirming that others really do have it worse than I. I used to know a sister who slept with underwear and pajamas on, and wrapped herself tightly with her blankets, in order to thwart the succubi she was convinced were after her. Don't know if it worked.

Do You Think JW Youths "Do It"?
by minimus ini think most jws are not virgins when they get married.
i'll bet the majority have "fooled around".
what's your opinion?
-
Insomniac
Maybe I was really naive, but I always took it as a given that my friends were all virginal. The more I think about it, though, it might have just been me. Damn!

NIT-PICK
by Hunyadi ini am riding on the same bus carrying a butt-load of x-jw's who take exception to the lies and mind-f@#%ing of the org.
i was blasted by some for asserting that there are hidden and subliminal images in the illustrations used in the wt publications, and that is fine.
i also understand that there are more important issues than hidden images in the wt publications.

This seems to be a common theme tonight, but I, too, have become less judgemental. It's not happened overnight, and it's the result of much conscious effort on my part, but it feels so good. I'm feeling more a part of humanity, not separate and better than them all. David Reed (a former elder, current super-apostate) talked about this change of attitude in his book Blood on the Altar, and it really struck a chord with me.
Also, the first time I dropped money in the Salvation Army pot at Christmastime, a little boy who was there with his mother wished me a merry Christmas. Looking him in the eye and saying "Merry Christmas to you, too!" was such a huge step for me. It made my heart flutter, but it felt so good to return the blessing.

Well, I hate to admit it, but I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and get afraid that demons are gonna get me. I heard so many horror stories when I was in the borg, even though the rational (waking) part of me rejects the demonism b.s., when I'm half asleep I'm often terrified. So, I often sleep with the radio on very low, and a night light, although why these things should deter demons sort of escapes me.
Also, I'm scared to death of germs. When I was a kid, the teacher brought in a bunch of petri dishes with some kind of a gel in them. Every kid in my class touched one, with just the tip of their finger. A few days later, we looked at the dishes, and they were all covered in this putrescent, rotty, moldy looking gunk, which was a thriving colony of what was living on our fingers. This visual, coupled with the fact that a majority of people don't wash their hands in public restrooms, and then go around touching things, has helped my fear to blossom into an obsession. I would wear gloves at all times, if it wouldn't make me look crazy, but I settle for lots of tiny bottles of antibacterial hand gel and a no-handshakes policy.
Damn, seeing this stuff in print really makes me sound crazy. I guess it's all relative, though, I mean, there are people lots worse off than me. Right?

PASSION of the Christ
by myownsaviorthankyoumuch inwondering if anyone has seen it yet, and what the general consensus was around here.
i saw it a week ago this coming monday, overall i liked it, and didnt really see what the controvesy was, thought that the aramaic w/ english subtitles was a nice touch, cinematography was great, watching mary's griefmoved me a whole lot more than watching jesus get tortured, satan rocked visually, i especially enjoyed the fact that he was portrayed by a female, [that was not a comment to instigate the femenists on the board] though he had one too many hollywood moments, i really like the fact that jesus actually came across as arrogant, not the weakling he is always portrayed as during the easter season, he actually had some nads, and had something to say, that was cool, made him a lot more real in my eyes, after walking out of the theater though, i could only keep thinking to myself this was such a tragedy in the likes of homer, a hero bound for disaster, a legend told through the centuries, much like king arthur became a legend based on the events of a real man, im thinking the same must have happened with him, 80 flogs with bamboo into it i was thinking endorphines and adrenaline, yet it kept going into a second round, how he was able to walk after that and carry a cross, seemed a bit ludicrous, comments??

Beautiful movie, very well done. I can't imagine eating through it, as it really killed my appetite. I also can't see taking kids to see it, it was way too violent and intense. I took my mom, and she got crying in the theater, so I can only imagine how a child would be affected.
