I was constantly told that I would (very soon) be thrown into a concentration camp, where I would be tortured (described in excruciating detail) and gang-raped. This began when I was 9 years old and my mother started studying. To this day, I hate the scent of nail-polish remover- I was told that I'd be forced to drink it as part of the torture.

Would You Even Bother?
by redskymedic inso, my jw mother passed on word to the local cong.
that i was df-ed, had just moved into the area and could use that yearly 'shepherding' phone call to see if anything has changed.
i was not home at the time, my husband took the call.

IMO, dealing with the elders is never worth it. You would not believe how much they hassled my mom when she left, to the point that she was actually yelling at them to leave her house. Very stressful, and not worth it.

Your First Christmas Tree?
by BrendaCloutier inthe end of 1986 i moved from my hometown of portland oregon to the big city of seattle.. it was 1987 and some new friends from that summer (met sailboat racing on puget sound) called and said they had permits and were going christmas tree hunting, did i want to come along.

I'm looking at my first real Christmas tree right now. I put it right by the door, so I can see it in both my living room and my bedroom/office. Last year, some of you may recall, I hung some ornaments off my big potted cactus in the kitchen; this year, I got an actual tree and gave it lights, colored balls, and gold garland. Pretty snazzy, if a bit messy. I went ahead and decorated the cactus, too, so it wouldn't get jealous.

What would you like to do if you knew it wouldn't kill you?
by Elsewhere in.
...or hurt you.. as an example: drive your car off a cliff like in the movie groundhod day, just for the hell of it.. basically something that would normaly kill you or leave you messed up real bad... but in this case you could "reset" all new again.. don't be shy... i won't think your weird if you want to blow your head off just to see what it's like.

I've always wanted to be in a brawl. Not a fight with another person, a brawl, like in the movies. Maybe I'd break a chair over some guy's head, or get punched really hard in the jaw. That'd be sweeet.

That movie rocked, dude. My favorite during that time period was Pretty in Pink, and it has the same effect on me, instantly I'm 15 again. Absolutely loved that movie, but to this day I'm bugged by the fact that she went off with the rich dude at the end- she should have gone with Duckie, and we all know it.

Preston, that just bites! Aren't you glad that you didn't have all sorts of Christmas presents in the back seat? As it is, though, they shouldn't have busted out your window, that's too much. And for touching ABBA, man they should lock 'em up and throw away the key, same as if they'd taken my Meatloaf or Pet Shop Boys cds.
I'm happy that you're ok, and your hubby is there to keep your spirits up.

Name Things That You Can Be Counseled For

I got counselled when I ran away from home. When I told the elders that the abuse had escalated to the point that I believed my life to be in danger, they just told me that I'd be in trouble if I told anyone in the cong about it- because of the two-witness rule, officially it all never happened.
Counselled for being "independant", wearing nothing but black, accepting a ride home from my boss one night when I had to work late and missed the last bus, dating unbaptised or otherwise "unsuitable" young men, and piercing my nose. Strangely, I was not pulled into the back room for getting a tattoo, but the elders weren't thrilled.

Why do kids...

We do it because we can. I can't tell you how many times, while engaged in boisterous horseplay with my boyfriend, I've accidentally punched him in the yarbles instead of his tummy. Even when I'm not using much force, it seems really painful, so I'm trying to be more careful.

The way to get the jw's goat!
by gypsywildone inthe way to stick it to the borg is not self defeating behaviors.
it's not smoking a cigarette, & saying "nah, nah, nah look at me".
it is not putting yourself at risk in risky sexual acting out.

Gypsy, you rock. I completely agree with you, it's so much more effective if we go on to lead normal, happy, productive lives, than to spend the rest of our lives acting like drunken frat boys just because we can. On occasion I still run into old friends of mine from the hall (I consider them friends because they still go out of their way to say hi to me and be nice). It always feels good, when they ask how things are, to be able to truthfully say that I'm happy and life is good.
