I guess he wasn?t too humble when he wrongfully appointed himself president of the WTBTS after flagrantly disregarding and squelching anyone who would have voted against him.
And I guess he wasn?t too humble when he squandered an untold fortune of the Society?s assets to purchase a luxury mansion for himself the old patriarchs in the event of upon their definitely-expected resurrection when they come knocking on the front door. (Actually, even if Abraham or Noah actually did show up, he probably wouldn?t have been able to recognize them anyway if they showed up after noon because most likely he would have been into the bottle by then!)
And he certainly didn?t seem too humble when he deliberately provoked civil unrest by setting up soap-box sessions and rallies on the streets to elicit public annoyance foretold persecution.
?Strong? (arrogant, pompous, belligerent), yes. But ?humble?? I don?t think so. IMHO, I think he was a little too interested in pushing his own weight around.
There was, however, a leader I?ve read about who truly was ?strong, yet humble??I believe the name was Jesus Christ. He and Rutherford sure were worlds apart. (Different eras, different continents, and different classes altogether!)
