Friday District Convention notes: Control, control, control
by truthseeker inwell, one third of the convention is over, i had no choice but to attend due to my current situation.. the talks were worse than last year, and as usual if you have seen the program you will not find jesus in any of the talk titles - in fact, the only time jesus is mentioned is during a prayer or in connection with the ministry.. when you become aware of how sidelined jesus is, you can't help but notice that jehovah's witnesses are a modern version of the old testament religion - it's all about control, be attentive, obey the "faithful and discreet slave" etc etc, in stark contrast to belief and salvation through jesus.. only the talks with midly interesting material or that had ridiculous phrases used by the speaker are shown here.. friday.
9:50 be attentive to jehovah's promises of deliverance .
would you believe that this 20 minute talk was solely about being attentive to the program?

Wow, truthseeker, I'm sorry you have to endure the convention, but thank you for posting your notes. It reaffirms my faith in myself, that I made the right decision when I left.

They are so scared of us
by KW13 ini remember the other day, someone i'd been friends with for ages asked me if i was an apostate and saw me as an evil influence.
he spoke of what goes on at these sites (as my mum does and other dubs) not realising its just like anywhere, good folks and not good folks.. you ever had a dub scared of ya?
lol

Yeah, this girl Jen, I made friends with her on LiveJournal, not realizing she was an active JW. Once she found out I'd left the religion, she freaked out and started posting about having nightmares in which she was being tortured by demons.
If I ONLY had that kind of power! My boss would be checked into a mental health facility after a WEEK! So would that jerk who veered into my lane without using his turn signal, the other day.

Does items considered part of the "Occult" still scare you?
by free2beme inif i met you and you saw that i wear a pentagram and often speak about tarot and rune, and mention how i do magick and you saw that i have a wiccan calender on my wall and there are statues around my house of gargoyles, dragons, and other things no good witness would be caught dead with.
would you be okay with this or does your mind still see these items as demons?
i a an adult, i can accept people being judgemental of these items and i do come to expect it, especially with my own personal background in the religion.

I never had a successful occult experience, and let me tell you, I TRIED! My reasoning was, if evil can be proven, then good can be proven. Ouija boards never worked, none of that stuff worked. It's all bul$&hit, in my opinion. After watching Penn & Teller's show about it, I'm even more convinced. Oddly enough, their show is also called Bu$%hit!

I would like to have my yard professionally landscaped, to make it look kinda woodsy toward the back, and then look very eccentric and wonderful near the front, with a creepy looking ornate cast iron fence and a low mound of rocks in the yard that would have different herbs growing out from between the cracks.
I would also put up a carport so the next hailstorm wouldn't beat up my car!

Well, nothing really until 1992, when my friend Erin O'S. told me I'd been marked and other teenagers were encouraged to not hang out with me. Mind you, at this point, I'd never had a boyfriend, never even been kissed by a boy. Also, at this point, I'd decided to leave as soon as I turned eighteen, and had started saving money from my paper route and fast food job, so's I'd have a cushion.
Anyway, at the summer 1992 district convention in Cicero, I renewed a friendship with Steve H., who'd recently been re-instated, and was the brother of Leah H., one of the holier-than-thou teenagers who had told Erin O'S. to stop being my friend. During an informative conversation in the stairwell behind Food Services, he pretty much admitted he'd gotten back in so he could stay at home or whatever, and believed in it about as much as I did.
We headed up to the rooftop, made out, fooled around a little, and ended up kinda doin' it behind one of the rooftop HVAC units. Later that night, we snuck out of the motel where our families were staying and fooled around under the motel's satellite dish, which was conveniently hidden from view by a bunch of shrubbery. We also snuck out and fooled around during the circuit assembly up in Janesville.
I wasn't even really attracted to him, but it was my way of showing solidarity with fellow heathens. Outwardly we pretended to hate each other, so no one would catch on. Later that summer, when I had my graduation party, he showed up and, in front of a group of people, made a point of telling me he'd gotten a place of his own with a friend of his and that I "should visit sometime." I shrugged it off, and said, "oh, that's cool," but I was so pissed off that he'd call attention to us somehow that I ignored him completely after that.

I'm so bad I'm good...
by RichieRich ini have been in the same circuit since i was 2. that means that most of the 1000 or so in the circuit know me to some extent.. in my "later" days as a witness i kept a very limited close circle of friends.
but i'm still fairly well known.
not "popular" but recognizable.. my mother has recieved a lot of gifts recently (candles, a blanket, cards, candy) and tons of phone calls.

He and his wife came into my work the other evening. ; The wife kept her distance, but the husband came ovr and gave me a huge hug.
that's awesome, Richie. You're going to find out you have more people who care than you ever thought possible. And maybe you're giving a few other kids the idea that they can get out, too!

The false pride of a "Window Washer"
by LDH inback when my sister and i were regular pioneers in the late 80's, there were many things that caught my ear.
i don't usually make an effort to remember them, but i did yesterday.. i was sitting at a red light yesterday.
i happened to look to the right and i saw a middle aged black man washing the windows at the strip mall......... ken and debbie mccarthy were two regular pioneers in our congregation.

LDH:
I understood the point you were trying to make. To think that people would doggedly continue at something, thinking the end was "just around the corner" and still believing that for years, decades, even. It's really sad, when you think about it. I worked in a factory for four years on the midnight shift, and finally quit because I KNEW I could do something better with my life. I take pride in a job well done, same as the next person, but I get seriously depressed if my mind isn't being stimulated by the work I do. To keep at something like that for years would have driven me insane.
