ex- jehovahs witnesses often reject christianity based on what they were taught by the wts.

when i left jws it was difficult for me to see what christianity was all about - the non-jw version.

every time i picked up a bible, i could see the watchtower interpretation jumping out at me.

My views are the same as Love Truth. I think it's clear from reading the bible it is by faith in the word of God that you gain life. You do not need to be with an organized religion. It's great to study and engage in conversations with others, but not required. If you believe the bible is from God and really read it and pray for understanding that's all you need. PC

I was saying "what do they do with the $940,000,00.00 they take in every year. So my dad says"it goes to the worldwide preaching". So I say "I heard about $80,000,000.00 ,so where's the rest"? He told me his KH was paid off in full. I asked him"did the society pay for it"? Of course he ducks the question and says "I don't know". Anybody have any idea what gets paid out each year? PC

Update on my Mom's stroke.

first off, i want to thank you all for your words of support that you gave me on the last thread i posted about a month or so again.

i know i don't know any of you all personally, but your words of support and encouragement meant a lot to me.

Hi El K,

My heart goes out to you. I went through it with my mom (who has since passed away). One thing I can tell you is even though they may not seem to be responding many stroke victims are 100% competent. When I use to visit my mom in the nursing home after her stroke I was never sure if she or other people knew what was going on. I then read a book called "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly". It was written by Jean-Dominique Bauby, he was the french editor of Elle magazine. He had a stroke at 43 and seemed completely in a vegetable state. He ended up dictating the book by blinking his left eye with a alphabet he made up. Absolutely incredible!! So even though people may seem unaware they can have complete understanding and competency. Just keep that in mind, because it helps so much when you talk and really interact with them. My prayers really go out to you and your mom. PC

John 1:1 and God being "with" God.

the watchtower says regarding john 1:1: "someone who is "with" another person cannot also be that other person" .

this argument is used by them againist the trinity.

while trinitarians believe that there is only one god, they also believe that there are distinct persons within the one god and that each person is god.

I also now believe in the Trinity. It is very hard because of all the brainwashing JW's do, so sometimes you doubt yourself. The main point I see, is if your a person who believes the bible, that Jesus became the way to salvation. Why would God give that authority to anyone but himself? I am not very well versed in all the extensive research but when I read the scriptures it seems to be clear to me. Sometimes I just think " what's all the big deal about who's right or wrong". God explains very simply what you need to do. Anyway that's my 2 cent's for what it's worth. PC
