Being JW and Psychiatry

in looking at so many post over time, i've come to the conclusion that so many of us as witnesses, seemingly have a predisposition towards emotional disorders and mental illness.

just reading some of the post on suicide, i get the feeling that there is some subtle force that exhibits itself in the teaching in the kh that can have a tendency to draw this kind of energy out of someone.

i couldn't see it while on the inside, now that i'm out ,however, i can see things so much differently.

The whole indoctrination of JW's makes people mentally ill. I was raised a JW and faded many years ago, but still stayed partially connected to it. It's the belief that everything is going to end and hopefully you'll make it leaves a person with no ambitions. After stumbling upon this site and finding out all the deception it was really depressing. Now I feel so free!!! I realize I was brainwashed meeting after meeting of that same repetitive BULLS$HT. That is the reason for all the mental illness and depression that surrounds them. PC

What does it really matter. If God wanted it to be so clear why would we need all this translation and definite article nonsense. How about if you believe the bible you just pick it up and read it. I too have exhausted myself from trying to "figure it out" and guess what I DON"T UNDERSTAND! I love to read everyones input, but at the end of the day I pray for faith. I am not sure what I believe, I only hope I'm being a better person and helping someone who needs it other than myself. If you believe Jesus is God fine, if you don't that's fine too. I think trying to mimic what Christ represents is probably the first step to being something better than we are. Just my 2 cents.

How many here grew up JW but had worldly friends?

my best friend was worldly all through elementary to high school.

we are still good friends.

i wonder if that led to our being a tad bit more open minded and aided in our exit???

I had tons of worldly friends. My dad was the head honcho in our congregation. I was the youngest of four kids so my parents never knew what I was doing. Alot of the people in the congregation didn't want thier kids to hangout with me. Eveyone thought I was a bad influence(how right they were). My best friend to this day was a JW with me. We always met all the bad JW kids from other congregations at the assemblies. We use to go to Yankee Stadium for the big assemblies all met up and leave and go to some park and hang out. Our parents didn't even know we were gone. It was in the 70's. pc

Should I teach my kids about Santa Claus? (Lie vs. Harmless Fantasy)

my wife and i got on a discussion about something i never would've guessed we'd need to.

she wants to teach our new baby about santa claus, easter bunny, & tooth fairy, but i don't.

of course, as witnesses we never would have taught that, and i have to acknowledge that i may only be reasoning using that old set of values.. i don't want to look into my kid's eyes and tell her something that i know for a fact isn't true.

First I wonder if peoples responces on this topic are varied based on them having children or not, and childrens ages.

I also wonder for all those saying we are perpetuating a lie, I guess reading Peter Pan, Alice In Wonderland, and Harry Potter are also unacceptable.

My sister-in-law (Catholic) decided she wouldn't "lie" to her children and told them the truth at ages 5& 7. As teenagers now they wish thier mother had "lied". One of my sons still believes at 9 and I am so happy he does. Everyone wants to believe in something so out of the ordinary and magical. I love my JW brothers who can't wait to through all these comments about Santa to spoil it for him. It just shows there hurtful nature. In the scheme of what goes on in life what does it matter! HO HO HO !

Just my opinion for what it's worth. pc

Do You Feel A Spiritual Void?

is there a "need" on your part to regain some form of spirtuality?

at this point in time, do you not want to hear anything about god, the bible, jesus, buddah, etc.?????

are you still "searching"?

I never felt a spiritual void. I have, however, found a church that I love. It was started by a small group of people in my town who left another church. Everyone for the most part is just happy getting together, reading the bible, having dinner ,and cementing our friendships. I feel more spiritual now then ever before.

since we were indoctrinated that those leaving the organiztion had their lives turn into sh*t until they "returned to jehovah (the organization), how would you say things have turned out--so far?

I am not surprised because i never did get the intolerence and hypocricy, but have left the intense guilt behind. I always echo these words "the truth will set you free".

I was trying to talk to him inregard to blood and after his usual pat answers I said "you really need to do some research outside the Watchtower. He then replied something like"(my name) don't you think I do". I was totally shocked . I am thinking now maybe he has been looking at some sites. I really hope so anyway.
