JWs do not know how to interact with people on the outside so they fall back on the only thing they know, their indoctrination.

Are Jw's trained to be just plain mean spirited?
by AK - Jeff innot long ago, i would have defended them slightly with opinions about those 'under mind control' etc.
but the further i get from jw think, the more i believe that jw's are just plain mean and hateful asses!
two situations that i relate in my life.. 1- an elder i know works in a grocery store.

I wish there was a list somewhere of who is logged in right now and who has joined today. phpbb boards often have them and it helps keep up with this sort of thing. I digress, welcome.

Bethel Tour-long sorry
by samiam2b ini'm new as a member but have watched the site for a while.
one of my kids, who lives in another part of the country, came for a summer visit from another state and asked to go on a bethel tour.
she lives with her jw mother and is surrounded by jws and they even baptized her recently.

Seems pointless to tour administrative offices to me. I wonder if anyone comes home "encouraged" from that.

I found Jesus in the falls on p 93 live forever book!!
by cultswatter ini always heard comments that there were faces and other objects in the falls on p 93. now i think i have finally confirmed this.
i scanned page 93 using only 300 dpi scanner and did some colour correction and sharpened the image a bit using photoshop .the result is surely jesus and there is also a face of a young kid below jesus.
now i think that the falls image contains a plurality of peoples faces, some people are standing and others just see the face only.. you can clearly make out a gash in jesus forehead.

The human mind is wired for facial recognition. Why else do you think Elvis likes to appear in Eggos?

Atheists vs Theists - IQ Score
by serotonin_wraith ini've heard about a few studies that show atheists are smarter than theists in some aspects of life- science, maths, etc.
i'm not sure how true it is though, so let's see how we do.
i did my test at www.iqtest.com.

Seeker4's Family's Sex Abuse by a JW Experience - and a Question.
by Seeker4 ini have written about this in the past, but not in recent years.
i'll try to do this briefly.. from the age of 5 until he was 10, my oldest son was sexually abused by a 5-year-older, jw male cousin.
my son stopped the abuse on his own when he was 10 by holding a knife on his abuser and telling him that he would kill him if the abuser ever touched him again.

Bottom line is they will do whatever they feel like and flip flop on policy more times than a presidential candidate. If it does turn out to just be a local thing they are pushing then write to the society and say how badly you have been stumbled and are not sure how you will be able to return to the flock now. :)

Not allowed to sleep over - is that weird?
by collegegirl21 inokay, so my guy and i have been together for 10 months and we usually are ok together.
but there is something that has been getting to me and i think its unusual, but please correct me if i'm wrong - he won't let me sleep over at his house.
and he hardly ever stays at my house, he's maybe stayed here 3 times in our whole relationship.

Have you guys actually had a serious talk about these issues and how it makes you feel? Instead of asking him to do what you want him to just asking him to tell you why he feels/acts the way he does. Don't talk, just listen.
Sometimes there are not compromises to be had. Then as previous posters have said you will have to take stock of whether the issues are serious enough that you cannot deal with them or be content with what you have.

Is JWD a healthy place to be for those who have left the Watchtower?
by AK - Jeff ineveryday, that i read, write, think and talk about the watchtower society makes me think whether or not i have really left it for good.. .
i fail to see the good in reliving the past in this way.
the discussion board features individuals that have 3 to 6 years on the board and individuals who have left the organization more.

For some people it probably isn't. If you don't want to dwell on the past, feel you have worked through your issues, and have no further interest in letting the watchtower society take up any more of your time then no you could probably stand to leave. However, for many it helps them to be here for others and assist in their exit and healing process. In this way a lot of us are able to reclaim a small part of what was stolen from us by knowing that we are taking one more dub out of a poisonous situation and helping one more kid feel they are not alone.
In the end I think it comes down to why you are still here and how it makes you feel. If you are filled with sadness dwelling on the past maybe you should move on. But if it fills you with hope to help others out of the borg I fail to see how that is an unhealthy hobby any more than any other charity work.

Reuniting with ex-jws from your home town
by Mysterious inhas anyone had the experience from talking to ex-jws from their home town?
it really is an eerie experience to talk to someone who knows the exact place, circumstance and lifestyle that you do.
even more so than the connectedness of places like jwd.

How true. And most of us aren't gathered around gnashing our teeth either.
