If it wasn't for the Truth why would anyone be moral?
by logansrun inof all the assinine comments that are made by rank-and-file jehovah's witnesses i've got to conclude that among the dumbest are comments to the effect that if it wasn't for this religion (the jws) there would be no reason to act in an ethically moral fashion.
take my sister, for instance.
she once related that if it wasn't for the truth tm there would be "no reason" not to have sex outside of marriage.

The problem is the JWs never had to develop other reasons. They knew what they could and could not do and they needn't think long or hard and make thier own decisions. So for them only one reason exists, that they are forbidden. You take away their sole reason and they snap. Except of course for those who are smart enough to rethink the issues themselves and weigh all sides.

It just goes to show you how nuts the society is that we would sit around and question if it was a joke or not. I think the name gives it away I'm sure some dubbie would see it as a "blasphemous corruption of the divine name" or something..

What does 'spiritual hunger'/'spiritual thirst' feel like?
by onintwo inthis is something i've wondered about for some time.
when i was 'in', the wts threw those words around alot.
almost every study topic in the wt, it seemed talked about them.

Everbody's different onintwo. What works for one person doesn't for another. I think it's ludicrous to expect that every person on earth could find happiness in a single structured belief system. As long as someone is satisfied with what they believe and their beliefs aren't hurting anyone else that's all that should matter. Some people naturally gravitate towards more structure.
In much the same way some people prefer team sports, others individual sports. Some like to play, some like to watch. Everyone has their own unique talents and styles. Some people get totally engulfed in sports and some people try to treat them like they don't exist at all.

I would say it's the desire for belief in something beyond your self. Though I certainly don't buy the idea that everyone who is not christian suffers from spiritual hunger and thirst. Somone who does generally searches until they are satisfied and then is no longer in need and thus stays with beliefs that they are satisfied with until something shakes them up again.

C. An ex-unbaptized Witness
However I don't particularly like defining who I am by what I used to be. A bit of a flaw there. You can consider me Pagan or Spiritual or Other. Whatever suits your fancy.

Were you happy as a witness?
by JH inthe few years that i was an active witness, i can't say that i was very happy.
i really didn't mind missing a meeting.
i always felt that a meeting every 2 days for the rest of my life was a little exaggerated.

I didn't know anything else. It's not like I liked going to all those meetings, spending all that time studying, or wearing a dress. But I didn't have a choice so I always said I was happy. I guess I got steadily less happy since I was 12..seemed like I got steadily gayer since about then too maybe my subconscious was trying to tell me to get out.
