Yes, when I remembered to bring them. My husband and kids and I loved looking for people we knew - never seemed to be sitting with others in our congregation. But I rarely remembered to pack them. Was very disappointed when I forgot.

Did you bring binoculars to assemblies or conventions?
by codeblue inwasn't it funny how many people brought binoculars to these conventions and only used them to check out sister wealthy's new outfit or that really cute guy that you had been eyeing in the corridor during breaktime?.
of course...we told everyone it was to see the "speaker"...(riiiiiiiiiiight!).

Attending a Funeral
by nowuask ina neice of mine passed away a few weeks ago at the age of 24. i did attend the funeral at the church she attended.
the family asked to give a brief talk about her using her own copy of her bible.
one of the elders found out about it.

I would certainly attend a funeral such as you described. The JW's have so many meaningless Talmudic rules controlling how they are allowed to show they care about someone.
I believe I have attended a funeral just like you describe - I don't see the problem. But for people who, like the complainers and the elders in the congregations, live in fear instead of in love, everything is a problem.
My hat is off to you for your part in your niece's funeral!

I think that sister was giving you a subtle invitation, hoping the connection with your elder friend would draw you.
I believe a lot of the friends want to be kind and natural, but are taught they will be disloyal to Jehovah if they treat DF'd and especially DA'd people like human beings. But I've noticed that a lot of Witnesses are pretty loose with the shunning rules, and that is a very good sign. When my son was disfellowshipped, an awful lot of people wanted to talk to him and smile and wink at him. Admittedly, he was a teenager, and a lot of people are understanding about teenagers' problems. But still....
Maybe there's hope, or maybe the DevilBorg will crack down further on their robots. Time will tell.
In a work/customer service situation, the rules are not as strict, and I know that I, for one, took advantage of the loophole when on the opposite side of the fence - any shunning victims who came to my store or my table when I was a foodserver got extra friendly service!

Angelo Moore of Fishbone used to come to our apartment for the Book Study, and I have been to his mother's home, where I also got to talk to him a few times when he was a young teen. He was a pleasant person with an easy smile.
I'm sure he was torn between his strict JW mother, who's also a very nice person, and his non-JW father, who was in the music industry and apparently always encouraged Angelo to pursue a music career. He chose music of a sort. Just kidding Angelo! A co-worker lent me one of your early "Angry" videos.
Hi Angelo! Saw you on TV recently when the Rescue Team were out looking for you and your little 'un! You handled that very well IMO.

I did attend one book study at the Kingdom Hall recently, just to have something to do on a family visit and to avoid making waves and ruining the visit for everyone. I made sure I packed my copy of the publication being studied, along with my old copy of the NWT and I packed my nicest meeting dress, but didn't wear the pantihose - extremely unusual for me - but didn't want to be bothered. It was a very long dress anyway.
It was kind of boring, but fun too, to sit there with a COMPLETELY different viewpoint. The brother conducting was such a robotic shell of a human - used all the terminology we've been taught - it was sickening. And to think we used to regard those men as "so spiritual." I just looked up all the scriptures cited but ignored in the study, and that took up all the hour. Tried not to listen to all the canned drivel known as "comments."
Talked to a lot of the people after, mainly because my family were making such a point of introducing me to them. Except for the elders with the ever-present ulterior motives in talking to visitors, the people were nice.
My only slip up was referring to one of the brothers' wives as "the brunette lady in the front row." Oops! I corrected myself and then referred to her as "sister" but it was too late! The elder immediately wanted to know what congregation I was from!

Hi Robdar,
I'm going to do some housework and shopping and maybe apartment hunt. There is roadwork underway right in front of my apartment, and all parking in front for several blocks is now illegal, till November!
But it's a nice day, and I'll enjoy it anyway!

"The Harmony of the Four Gospels" Musical Public Talk
by seeitallclearlynow inminimus mentioned in the "apostates are infiltrating the congregations" thread that the meetings used to be interesting, with skits and such, and you know, i had forgotten that!
but they were interesting many years ago!.
we had humorous skits and attention-getting skits, and a lot more slide presentations way back when.. so this made me think of a talk that was very highly requested in our area, titled above.
