Actually, the society was not as strict on this as most JWs thought. My wife and I RARELY had a chaperone and I used to LOVE defending myself to other nosey witnesses. All the society says is that you should not be alone in a secluded place where wrongdoing can occur. But they did encourage doing things together in public places. In fact, I remember one pub (maybe the Young People Ask) talking about this and then showing a couple ice skating or something like that...but they were alone! I remember them specifically warning on being alone in a parked car, a home or stuff like that, but being alone in public places is OK. My parents didn't like it at first, but after I showed them what I found researching it, they couldn't argue.

Is this true?!!! No way!!!
by Doubtfully Yours ina couple of childhood friends of mine, henry caban and alberto caban, both bethelites at one time, were said to be going to law school compliments of the wtbts.
is it true that they put some 'cream of the crop' bethelites through college depending on what field the society needs?
i can't believe it?!!!

they should now allow all brothers and sisters to go to college and not condemn or dissapprove of those who do
Naturally, most on this board will agree with you...but a "good" JW can easily explain that away. Sure, it's OK to go to college, as long as you are going to use your skills in full-time service to Jah just as these Lawyers are doing. Actually where I live, people don't have a problem with JWs going to college like they use to and it seems to be quite acceptable.

It seems that JWs don't have the market cornered on shunning after all. Despite what anyone says, a family that shuns or cuts off a family member for anything besides serious wrongdoing (murder, molestation, etc) is wrong in my eyes.
No one on this board can give you the RIGHT answer. All you can do is learn from the experience of others. Marrying a JW as a non-believer is harder than being of the same faith, but it does not mean it cannot be done. It just reduces your chance of success. You should talk about this with your fiancee. Make sure she is OK with you NEVER becoming a JW if you don't want to. And talk about raising children, if you want to and how you will raise them, as JWs or not? You'll need to sort this out with her, if your family cuts you off, it doesn't sound like it is your fault, but theirs. It will be up to you if you would rather appease them or piss them off and hope they come around. Good luck!

Pedophile is Slain in VA Prison
by maxwell ini rarely post on this subject simply because i don't have the experience to generate or fully understand the intense emotions that come along with child abuse.
i have noticed some recent threads about proper punishment for a pedophile.
and today i saw an interesting article in the washington post today so i thought i would share it.

Virginia and few other states have created laws that allow certain sex offenders to be held indefinitely
Good because it seems that other State Laws have yet to catch up and have very minimal sentences for child molesters!

It was fun, it was real, it was real fun...
by gentlesoul inhey everyone, i don't know why i feel the need to come here and say this as i don't frequent this site anyways but i guess out of respect i feel to say what i got to say.
i have never been in a lot of your shoes and i thank god for that.
i am sorry that you all have been put through what you experienced in being a jehovahs witness.

Gentlesoul, many people on this board were/are as spiritual and as close to God as you can possibly be. Many on this board had/have biblical knowledge that would make the average Christian's head spin. Many have come to their own conclusions on spirituality and on God, despite an organization telling them what they need to think.
To have someone else come along, view them as "lost sheep" and attempt to impart some spiritual gift can naturally raise some hairs on the back of the necks of some, including me. It's OK to express what you think, and highly encouraged...just remember that is exactly what it is...what YOU THINK.

Is Child Abuse The Unforgivable Sin?
by minimus inif there is one subject that provokes emotion, it is child abuse.
the roman catholic church nearly went down because of this epidemic.
many in the ex-jw community feel that if anything could bring the watchtower down, it is the issues involving child abuse.

If someone has it in their heart to forgive them, that's great. I don't think I could...depending on the degree of abuse. Meditated sexual abuse I couldn't get over. Physical abuse I could forgive if it really seemed the person had changed their ways and did whatever possible to reconcile their errors...don't imagine that happens a lot though.

Ew, I am disgusted. Awful bastards.
I'm not sure what all the disgust is about. What would you propose they do? A corporation HAS to have lawyers in this society. Training on staff lawyers has to be cheaper than paying outside firms.
