Although the counsel not to get involved in certain sports is listed in the awake magazine, I think it is up to a person's conscience (to a degree).
I knew many JWs that went Whitewater Rafting and scubadiving and nothing was said to them. I also know of a Witness who allows her daughter to play on the school's basketball team. I think it depends on the strictness of the congregation whether a stink is made about it or not.

maybe some of you who have been out for many years can answer this.. do you think that the flow of people leaving the borg has been increasing?
and do you think that we will ever live to see their complete downfall?
if you do think this is a likely scenario, how do you see it unfolding?.

I must say, your post was very interesting and educational, but I'd like to make one suggestion. If you want people to listen to what you have to say, please avoid saying things such as:
"Although apostates prefer not to believe it of course (because, though having eyes, they can’t see)"
Saying the above tends to divert a person's attention from the point you are making to the nasty insult you make. The only thing people will remeber is what a dick head you are (no offense). It's human nature. So if you are hear to help, please try being a bit more polite.

i am shocked at the many accusations against jehovah's witnesses in this forum.. i know that i am young, but most of my family are jws and they are good people and i love them.
even my worldly family is very nice and i do not shun them.
the friends in the hall are very nice also.

Welcome to the board. I was curious about something you posted above. You said:

I understand the point you are trying to make. However, nowhere in the bible does it say, thou shall not smoke. I do understand that god wants us to treat our bodies right, as we belong to him. However, and this is only in my opinion, it is a little far fetched to completely cut somebody off because of this. This is where I think JWs exert too much control over peoples lives and intrude too much into one's personal business. What if puffsrule's father was the perfect Christian, but had a small addiction to smoking? Does this warrent him being cut off from the very people he's loves the most and loosing all favor with god, as the JWs teach? I think that is an imbalanced view point. But again, this only my opinion, and I'm not trying to push my opinion on you. What do think about that issue?

it got me to wondering where most people that post here were at...what stage in their jw/ex jw process...when they started reading and/or posting here.
also curious, when you did come here what was your main focus?

I was disfellowshipped at the end of 1999, but was inactive for a few years before that. I came to this site and numerous others researching opposing JW views, before making the decision to go back or not. It was so refreshing to find people who had experienced that same things I had.
I accidentally stumbled onto the message board sometimes last year, after I had already resolved not to return to being a JW, and began posting. The effects of knowing all of you have been very positive, a downright blessing to tell you the truth.

as most of you know i usually write about sexual matters, but i would like to take this time to write about something serious.
after two months of writing posts and reading others people's posts and have concluded that the jehovah's witness organization purposely prevents people from contact with other people, because that way it is hard for someone to leave the organization.
if everyone you know is in the organization then how can you leave?
Sadly, it is all too common.
A friend of mine, who recently disassociated himself due to the numberous doubts he had, had lengthy discussions with his father, who is a ministerial servant and a good friend of his who is an elder before hand. Both the elder and his father agreed with the points he was making, but they both responded, "Where else is there to go?" If only they knew.

i hope this doesn't sound to insensitive but even when iwas an active dub i wondered how the elders could listen to peoples sexual scenarios without getting at least a bit of a thrill.
i'm a bit of a voyuer at heart so maybe i am making the wrong assumption but it seems to me to be human nature.
i have never been called before a judicial committee but i have talked to others who have and they are often pressed for lots of detail.
"What position", "Which breast" "Which Hand"?
Dear god, I'm glad I was never asked that type of thing in a JC. I remember being asked how many times, how did your conscience feel, etc. but nothing perverse.
i am not familiar with the this acronym, please assist thank you.
