When I am around them, I'm friendly and accepting of who THEY are, even if I totally disagree with their religion. i just read the story about the family in oregon, gone forever, because of the pressure of shunning.. in my opinion, shunning is the big story about jehovah's witnesses.
shunning and the fear of shunning is what enables the control of victims of child abuse.
shunning is what destroys families.

I think it's a little bit different than the so called "poison" apostates spread to JWs. We simply don't agree with the way and WHO you are worshipping, that being an organization. In my opinion you made a very weak comparison.
The only "poison" we are spreading is that of independent thinking, not of god, but independent thinking from a cult.

i think the most thoughtless thing they eva did to me...and it's rather embarrassing...is when i was still a jw at 14.. i'd just had an operation to remove a cyst and my left ovary due to polycystic ovarian syndrome.
so i'm sitting at the district convention and i get up to go and have lunch with my mum cause i was sitting with an sister a little older than me - in her 20's.
so i start walking across the oval and there's people everywhere and i'm getting a few looks, but hey, i was a paranoid teen, they made me agoraphobic, so i didn't think too much of it.
The most angered and hurt that I'd ever been as a JW was the night I was disfellowshipped.
To give a little background info on the situation, although I had been inactive for a few years, about a month before I was DF'd a nosy, gossiping sister had been following me all over town to find out what I was doing. I had been staying with a guyfriend of mine because the husband of the JW couple I was living with was pushing me to have an affair with him. This nosy lady, of coarse, had seen me staying the night with this gentleman and told the elders. Due to the mere way it looked, I was disfellowshipped.
The night that I was to be disfellowshipped, instead of being pissed off with this woman, I walked up to her before the announcement and told her that I wasn't angry with her and that she was only doing what she felt was right. Instead of being friendly back, she looked me in the eye, pointed her finger and said "she might forgive me for what I've done"!!! As if she was God himself. I still get pissed off just thinking about that.

i went out to this nightclub near my work last night (saturday night), and i was having a good old time, when i decided to sit down on a big, flat futon couch near the entrance to one of the dancefloors for a while (it's an outdoors club!).
Although you have it figured out, SYN, I have to put my 2 cents in about this girl.
I have to ask myself, "If I were pregnant for a child, would I be hanging out in a night club smoking cigarettes?" Hell no. It sounds like this girl lacks class and maturity and is very selfish. And on top of that, if her boyfriend were controlling like she said, would she be hanging around in the same club with him, making out in front of him. You would think she'd be to scared and would get the hell out of there.
Like everyone else has said, you're just a daddy for her kid. If I were you, I'd RUN LIKE HELL....
