Does anyone remember those hideous murals?
by Country Girl infrom around 1964, until our congregation had a new kingdom hall built in the mid-70's or so, we had this mural behind the speaker's platform on the stage.
it was supposed to be paradise.
it had a nice range of mountains, a beautiful lake, and some flora and fauna in the foreground.

These stupid murals were always out of perspective. Now, the put those pictures in some of their literature, and they are STILL out of perspective.

sumpin,,,,,,,,along those lines........i am sure ya'll can come up with some things better than this .
but , ya get the idea.

What sad and dreadful thoughts fill my head tonight....
by arrowstar ini guess this all started when i read the subject of another thread "what do you think happens when you die?
" the first thought that came into my mind was "nothing".
and i don't mean that in the "your soul stops here and your flesh decays" sense.

Arrowstar,
Of course you need to come here and talk about what you feel. It's helpful to get the thoughts from your head and through your fingers on paper. It's a way of dealing with things. I know what you are talking about. As you grow older these thoughts do fill your mind at times. And it's far from morbid. It's reality. I am in the same boat. And it's something that brings a sadness as well. Just know that we feel the same. You are in my thoughts, as I understand completely what you are feeling.
I am thinking about you, and hope that your day will be better tomorrow.

Did You Enjoy Simply Passing The Bread & Wine At The Memorial?
by minimus ini remember how little kids got so excited when they got to actually touch the glass and the dish!
yet, most people seemed to (respectfully) keep their heads down and try to look morbidly serious.
was the act of "passing the emblems" a thrill for you?

In my hall they would not pass the emblems to df'd ones. They were instructed to pass-over them. Whatever that meant.
But than later after it was over all the young kids could go up to the stage and help themselves to the 'bread' and hand it out to the other kids to munch on.

I have heard most of the old illustrations, and this one is sooooo old. The only one I remember they have upgraded is the one about inherited sin. Where, if you take a baker's pan with a dent in it all the loaves will have a dent. To; If you have a computer with a virus in it all the other computers will be infected also. How original huh?

Elders and Servants
by Bryan ini believe the body of elders was created in the early 70's, as opposed to the one elder running the show.
please correct me if i am wrong.
my question is... 1963, where there servants under the presiding elder?.

P.S. How many of the borg do you suppose lurk in here? ;-)
Quite a few actually. From what I understand, there could even be some of the WT's lawyers that take notes from this board.

Interesting visit
by Puternut ini had a very interesting phone call today.
a sister (fader) called me, and told me how she and her husband (ex elder) have been thinking about me, and talking late into the night about what they could do for me.
they knew i was disfellowshipped now, and remembered the kindnesses i extended to them for many years while i was an elder.

Thanks folks for the posts. One thing was interesting to me about some of what I read. Some of you mentioned that you didn't hear about these things in your congregation, and were wondering if these were isolated indicences. That in itself is proof to you how good the organization is about keeping things under their hat. But I assure you, that there were many cases that were covered up and till todate are being covered up. Some are threatened by the Society, that if you are to talk about it, disciplinary action will be taken place on your behalf.
Many silence themselves until they cannot cope with the pressure any longer.
