Convince me

i am highly considering becoming a jehovah's witness.

i have been raised in the congregration, but left it when i was a child because my mom left too, but we still retatined the core belifs including the ressurection and the blasphemous pagan influence on mainstream churches.

my mom has recently returned to the congregation, and it has helped her a lot.

Liza, I congratulate you for 'looking before you leap'.

Remember the TV commercial about the 'Roach Motels' ? "...they check-in, but, can never check-out ?" THAT is what happens when you check-in at the Kingdom Hall. Although there are thousands and thousands of ex-JW's here...almost all of us have paid a high price escaping from this very high-control religion.

I escaped and now have a very peaceful satisfying life -- except for the fact all of my grown children and my other JW relatives shun me, because I left. I am not disfellowshipped, I'm just AWOL from the Kingdom Motel.

-During a convention when I was about eight years old, I heard about a brother whose mother was sick in the hospital. He and his wife prayed to Jehovah God, and later on his mother got better. Is this a miracle? If so then the congregation has stated before that miracles would no longer happen and any such "miracles" are works of demons and Satan to misguide people from the truth. But Jehovah may have just given his mother the strength to get better.

There was no miracle for my JW mother whose belief in the Governing Body's dishonest blood transfusion doctrine killed her. That deadly belief is entirely based on "not eating blood", even tho' no "eating" nor ANY kind of digestion takes place during a transfusion. Please research this like you life depends on it -- because it does !

This deadly belief literally murdered my Mom. It will be expected & demanded of you, your children and your mother, too.

Your mother has already left the witnesses one time before, right ? What happens if YOU leave or she leaves again and you stay ? Teach your children this hateful religion and you (or them) may be required to treat the other...as a dead person. I promise you, I rue the day I was baptised and the 35 years I spent as a Jehovah's Witness.

Compare THAT "Love" with normal people of other religions or even atheists, before you become surgically attached to the Watchtower. The Watchtower destroys families.

Cool Crumpet ! It looks good and I loved your reasoning about your design.

Reading all this (and Richy's memorial adventures) to my honey brought up her long-time wish to have a small tatoo. She wants a small yellow rose. I used to give her a little resistance over it. I realize now it was my olde WT prejudices and cultural bias at work and apologized for even attempting to color her decision. It's her body, her mind, her choice.

It's really a good feeling for me...to shed one more prejudice behind.

truer words were never spoken.. for all of you who understandably miss your family, just think of the troubles those of us have to endure when some of our jw family refuse to shun us and make it their lifes work to 'encourage' your return to the cult with threats of imminent death by their ever loving god!.

I like your observation.

My JW Mom was nothing like the over-bearing ones described here. She was one of the sweetest people I've ever known. I found out at an ApostaFest (from one of us evil apostates) that she even visited & helped out over a long term, a young DF'd couple with their sick baby in secret! That was my Mom. She'd kindly give you the shirt off her back.

So, when the Watchtower gods asked for her very life...by not getting that needed blood transfusion...she generously gave literally 'til it hurt'.

I'd give almost anything to see her again. And, all 3 of my children that are presently shunning me ? It's been from 5 years for one and 3 months for another..."the grass does look greener...". I'm so desperate at times for the sight of my children's faces and the sounds of their voices...I think, sometimes, I wouldn't even mind if they were rude, cruel, preaching, abusive...you know...I just need to hear their voices.

I need to know if they are OK or sick or even dead. You see, my JW x-wife has always gotten "just too busy" at the hospitals her (our) children were in, to bother to call me. I'd always find out a few months later.

So. Am I crazy ? Or just sick ? For welcoming any attention, any words...from them ?

Or...does the grass just seem greener ?

And, yes...we're planning on the RenFest, too. We went last year for the first time, now...we'll be back every year. We love to 'people watch' and Scarborogh Faire is one of the best for that sport. Lot's and lots of sexy wenches !

i do not attend the same hall as my boyfriend because he is currently reproved for being involved with me.

i'm not a witness.

he confessed to his elders that he had sex with someone outside of marriage after his second divorce was already final.

...an active Witness just gave you 2 REAL IMPORTANT reasons why you might wanna consider running as fast as you can from any thought of becoming one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Your boyfriend sounds like he may have started having doubts about the JW's, but, he got scared back to the Kingdom Hall. Some of his actions seem to show he already thought you were 'under his law'. I hope you stick around to read hundreds of other stories about this very dangerous religion and how it destroys familes.

For instance: If you become a JW...you cannot ever leave without the risk of being shunned by everyone, including any children that you two may have. You'll also be required to die...rather than receive a life-saving blood transfusion. I lost my JW mother to the blood issue and my wife and children to shunning, because of my leaving JW's. I'm shunned by all.

Please remember the old adage: Look before you leap !

Welcome to the forum ! You sound like you've been thru the wringer...but, keep reading here. You'll find many people with many experiences and stories of loss and heartbreak as they left the 'Truth ™'. But, as you'll find, most people are much happier with the freedom they gain.

Almost all of us have lost a lot of family due to shunning. It's difficult, but, you'll find support and friends who really understand here.

*sigh* Jeff, I've been reading your installments to my never-been-a-dub new wife. Even tho' she's a "worldly ™ " person, you're getting a for painting such a good picture. You're helping her understand -- me, back then and just 'how' I ever got involved in such a destructive cult that took the life of my Mom [blood], destroyed my marriage, resulting in shunning by my children...etc, etc, etc...like so many others here.

If you do write a book, I think some of your readers will be people like my wife...people that are associated with JW's or Ex-JW's. These folks are just dumb-founded, why, otherwise intelligent people ever got involved with such a hateful, destructive religion.

The way you write helps explain that mystery. Even to myself.
