Question about Judical committees
by scrubmaster inif a committed has been formed for an allegation of serious sin and the person does not agree with the charge is there anything the person can do to let the elders now they do not agree with the charge and if the person is not happy with the three elders choosen for the committee is there anything that can be done before the first meeting.
also a side point, this same person presented evidence of their scriptural freedom just like the society's said is required, the elders had to deliberate over this information even though it was present just as the society stated, my friend went ahead and got married and now all of a sudden the previous information was put on the back burner and my wife and friend now face a judical committee for adultery.
is this the way elders all ways handle cases, they throw out any information which made be in the person's favor and go right for what can be found written in black and white so they do not have to think?

Further Education
by scotsman ini had lunch with a jw friend who's just finished a law degree.
she was saying that at the last circuit assembly the bethel speaker, (philip longstaffe) said that the society had not changed its stance on further education, and that college for vocational skills was all that they thought was ok. my friend's a bit of a free thinker (i'd half hoped that this lunch date was to tell me she had doubts, but no) so she doesn't give fig what they think.
i was actually appointed as an elder the month before i started attending uni and the co had told the other elders it was no reason to prevent my appointment.. anyone else heard this at their assemblies?

Jury duty???
by Strawberryfieldsforever ini was just wondering if jury duty was considered taking part in the world.
i just found out that my mom had jury duty a few months ago and went!
i've never been a registered voter and thought you had to register to be called to jury duty.

Judge: Comparing JWs to salesmen "insulting degrading hurtful & defamatory"
by loveis init seems that, despite being regarded as sales nuisances by so many, jws still seem to have the respect of those whose opinion matters the most.. *** yb02 pp.
13-14 highlights of the past year ***.
in quebec, canada, the city of blainville enacted a bylaw stating that people going from door to door for religious purposes must first purchase a permit.

Clapping
by Stefanie ini was just remembering in the hall i attended, the "friends" would clap when someone got reinstated, then they stopped when there was a talk from the platform about it being inappropriate.
i was just wondering why they say something like that.
and it would seem to me that people going back in were doing them a favor, why would they be so cruel.

Disassociated
by Euphemism ini just found out that the elders announced meia's and my disassociation at the service meeting this week.
they'd called me on monday and told me that they were going to; i fired off an appeal letter the next day, and hadn't heard anything, so i thought they might have postopned the announcement.
i just found out, however, that the meeting was held on monday this week because the other congregation had the co's visit.

What is an Amicus Brief
by 3acrewood inhi, waiting, and all others concerned about this amicus brief:.
just to set the record straight - i have been a legal secretary for over 20 years, and i assure you there is nothing shady about the society filing an amicus brief in regard to this swaggart thing.
an amicus brief is filed in cases in which the verdict could set a precedent that would or could have an adverse affect on other parties not involved in the suit (i.e., other religious organizations, corporations, etc.).
