You are talking about me when you describe some of the trouble with aggression or expressing opinions and the long process of learning to how think and react instead of referring to others for how I should think. I feel I'm too aggressive about my opinions and that could be the result of just now learning how to do this, and there's a need to grow up about it. I'll check out the book you mentioned. Thanks for having such a patient attitude toward the newbies!

EX-JW's Fated To Quarrel.
by Englishman init's almost 32 years since i left the jw religion.
a bunch of us left around the same time, some were df'd, some weren't, one or two went back into the witnesses over the years.. one of the df'd one's became re-instated and last year i had the pleasure of sending him the letter that we sent to every congregation in the uk, the letter that announced that the wt was an ngo and, incidentally, the whole shebang was full of paedophiles and you lot were going to be on telly nexy week in bbc's panorama!
i digress... anyway, one thing quickly became very clear to those of us that were left.

There's lots of depression and anxiety problems, and people deal with these things in different ways. I once heard from a District Convention that Witness teens were more "well adjusted" than other teens, but I find that difficult to prove, and even more difficult to believe. It's that kind of stuff they say to get people to think that as a whole Witnesses are calm and grounded, but in reality, the environment is toxic and wears everybody down.
As far as really severe mental illnesses, I'm sure there are a few, but probably they would have had these illnesses before they became a Witness and they were looking for a way to deal with their huge insurmountable problems by joining a religion that claimed to have all their answers.

Does it ever get easier?
by Surfacing inmy heart is palpitating even as i write this.
it was only recently that i was introduced to this site.
i had long had doubts but could never bring myself to peer over the wall built in my head about the evils of apostates.

I fear the ping pong game in my head is driving me to insanity. The guilt is so overwhelming, yet when I really analyze it, I don't think I'm really that evil.
I can totally relate to this. It does get easier, but I needed therapy. I'm still having to deal with JW issues, but at least I have some peace of mind now. Posting here has also been a real help for me.

The Right to Discriminate
by RubyTuesday inevery one discriminates, and everyone is discriminated against, at some time.
discrimination is using your judgment to make decisions about whom you will associate or reward with use of your time and property.
all people discriminate in their personal associations constantly -- you discriminate in whom you choose as your friends, lovers and business associates.

I'm having trouble understanding the point of the original post. I take it that it's saying... freedom is defined by the right to choose (discriminate) in all areas of life by all people/entities.
If that's what it is supposed to be saying, I can't agree with that. Human nature seems to indicate that people act out of fear of losing their power and control to another group, which leads to problems. The purpose of anti-discrimination law is to minimize those problems.

so someone that tells me she only has to do door to door if she wants to is not being told the truth
nope. it's mandatory, to at least report time in service, to get baptised. I don't know why they say it's voluntary, I guess you get to choose when you go, but that's about it?

That's pretty interesting. I had heard on another site that the JWs side of the UN thing was they needed access to their library for researching different topics and the membership they had at that time was for that purpose, probably just a slick little explanation to placate the R&F.
