The Internet
by myelaine in"but you, daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.".
"therefore when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand), "then let those in judea flee to the mountains.....and pray that your flight may not be in the winter or on the sabbath.
for then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.. "the sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath.

by Daunt inthis is an email my sister receieved (i know im bad but she just left it running here how can you expect me not to) talking about the "dating scene" of jw youth, specifically girls.

Yeah, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. Gotta hand it to any kids getting married in this religion. Slim pickings.

Now Elders Are Making Elderly & Infirm Feel Guilty For "Being Hooked Up"!
by minimus inmy mom as well as a few others are "hooked up by phone" to the meetings.
lately, the elders are saying in their talks that if a brother or sister could be at the meetings but instead are "hooked up", then they are hurting jehovah by not having regular association with the "friends" at the kingdom hall.

If they don't want them to hook up, then don't hook them up. Simple! What freaks.

by frankiespeakin inthe more the governing body warns about the dangers of the internet the worse it gets.
i think they are going to keep going in the direction of more and more warnings until everybody in jwsville sees the light.

Yeah, if I was an unbaptized kid, I would have checked it out on the internet, ESPECIALLY if they were always saying not to do that, and then I would never have gotten baptized! How great would that have been?
Every chance I get, I like to irritate my JW family by saying I researched something on the internet, not JW stuff or religion, just other stuff. It's pretty easy to figure out the internet is a very valuable resource in so many ways, and when people know that, it's an easy next step to begin looking at what's being said about the JW religion. Someone told me they thought Witnesses were a cult, so what did I do? I looked at the internet to see what it said about cults, how it defined them. It was only a matter of time before I went all the way and stopped being afraid to read "apostate" sites. We already see so many witnesses on the internet, apologists, etc., there's obviously so many of them thinking they are stronger than the society gives them credit for and can handle it without falling away. I just hope something one of these has read comes back to them and starts making some sense!

Circuit Overseer visit ---- Why do we have to change the meeting schedule??
by catchthis inthis has always been a personal thorn in my side for years upon years.
let's say that your meetings took place on monday-wednesday and that other congregations had the tuesday-thursday slot.
let's also assume that you just happened to go to the mon-wed meetings due to personal circumstances and that tue-thur meetings were not possible.. now here comes da man on his bi-yearly visit.

Yeah they do that, but for faders it works to their advantage. That's a couple of meetings you don't go to because you can assume that everyone else assumes you have something on Mondays you couldn't get out of, like classes or something. I always used that excuse. It's not really important anymore, I rarely go to meetings during the week, definitely not the MS/SM. Sometimes, rarely, the bookstudy, but not too often.

Jehovah's Witnesses code of dress.
by onlyme in.
could anyone confirm or deny if the sisters code of dress still prohibits the wearing of trousers?.

Hey, they even show women in dresses during the family bible study when the guys are in casual slacks, shirts, and shoes. What gives!
Yes, if they show the women doing housework, it's always in a modest skirt and blouse. Who in the world would do housework in a skirt? Although I still haven't seen them showing pictures of the brothers mowing the lawn or washing the car in their shirts and ties. I would love to see that.
I basically boils down to - how can they tell if you are truly kissing their ass if you don't dress like you are?

Dawkins Interview; Atheism, Agnosticism, Etc.
by AlanF inthe following was forwarded to me, and i post it in its entirety, with a few edits for clarity, without comment.. ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ .
many of my friends are well aware that i'm not the slightest bit religious.
with other friends the subject has never come up - and might never have - i'm not much of a proselytizer.

EMBARASSING SECRET thoughts you have
by Terry ini think i might (if it is possible) be.......slightly...inclined toward foot fetishism....but only slightly.
but, i find that i look at attractive feet and find them esthetically pleasing.
and......slightly (only slightly) exciting.. i have no idea what this means.

I guess you could call it the lower-lower abs. Or maybe the upper groin? I just love seeing that V-shaped muscle thing -- heading "down there" -- on a guy. Yum.

Were you caught, did you confess, or did you run?
by sass_my_frass inhi, fyi: d'f'd a month ago, and glad you're all here.
i'm just assessing the sum of the madness that happened since my parents guilt-tripped me into confessing what got me disfellowshipped.
i do very sharply recall that at the moment i decided to do so i had an overwhelming feeling of relief which at the time i thought was me hating the lying about what i'd done and wanting to come clean about that and clear my conscience as a witness, but have since thought might have been me hating the lying about how i feel about the organisation and wanting to come clean about that as a human, ie, whether i'd turned the corner as a witness or i was glad to be getting away from it.

I haven't been caught (yet), I'll never confess, but I might run! Welcome sass-my-frass!

Will humanity EVER outgrow God?
by nicolaou infirstly let me say that i am not trying to offend believers - i was one for most of my life.
nor is this a discussion about whether god/religion is a 'good' or 'bad' thing, that argument will rage forever.
what i'm asking is really a simple question;.

Some days I think people will never let go it, just pass it down to successive generations. But maybe they will if it's really true that eventually the truth (and I don't mean "the Truth") wins out and eventually gets found out and accepted.
Hopefully soon, but probably not in my lifetime.
