  Are we too hard on INDIVIDUAL JW's?

  i am definitely no longer a jw (11 years).

  that having been said, living in a "democratic" land, the one thing that is challenging is agreeing with freedom of religion, but also protesting when it becomes offensive.

  don't get me wrong..... my family shuns me completely and i do think that it is "offensive", and against the laws of nature, which makes the point even more legitimate...... : do they really know what they are doing?

  You hit it Danny,

  Not only does the WT tear those "weak" ones away from their families, but it shuns them and speaks of them in such a hateful way, as if they are lower than pond scum and then slanders them further by promoting the lie that they are dangerous people now living under the control of the evil being Satan the devil. In fact the WT claims that everyone who is not promoting the interests of the WT ($$$$$$$$$$) is living in Satan's world and soon to be destroyed when afterwards the birds of the heavens will come and pick their eyeballs out not even affording them a decent burial. No the WT does not play nice. It is hard to let them off the hook especially if you have experienced their wrath.

  i was a reg pioneer along with my wife for 9 years.

  during this time, we honestly tried to do everything by the book.

  I could never do it. I was always guilty. I suffered from migraines for years. The before and after and during part of the migraine lasted for about 9 days and at that time I couldn't do a whole lot, especially read or concentrate. But was always told that others could keep it up even in worst conditions. I could never do it all and felt that I was always a second rate JW. But I was compassionate towards others in their weakness, so at least I did something right....Glad I don't have to perform the JW routine any longer...

  WTBS attitude towards vegetarians ...

  .

  having flirted with meat off and on through my life, but mostly conforming to the vegetarian standard (due to the obscenity for the most part that is the meat industry) - i noticed when serving with the society, that i came under fire from the brothers.. my moral arguments about cutting down on meat consumption based around the factory farming methods were cast aside and often sneered at.. "well god gave us the right to eat meat" was the usual line i had to swallow down.. have any of you guys faced the same situation?

  I think that JWs never liked anything to do with vegetarians much as they represented a counter culture that they didn't want to be associated with. I knew very few vegetarian witness and if they were they had to keep it to themselves and were thought of as strange.

  Strange but I I sort of agree with all the posts here to one extent or another. While I do believe in being kind to people and allowing them to live their own lives I can also appreciate what Danny Haz is saying here. The WT is truly insiduous. No, they do not murder people "Charlie Manson style", but they do allow their own children and family members to die for a delusional cause, and while this may not be considered murder by some when your dead your dead no matter what your cult reasoning is on the matter and that is the end of the story.

  I have always heard the saying to each his own, "live your life as you may as long as you aren't hurting anyone". The truth is JWs are hurting people and even allowing their own children to members to die and they truly do tear families apart--I have personally had that painful experience. All of JWs who belong to this Organization are promoting and supporting this cause financially and otherwise, thus they too are guilty in their delusion just the same as Charles Manson's followers and the Nazi party. The Org has sugarcoated itself so they don't appear to be villainous--this is what makes them especially dangerous.

  While Danny Haz may sound a little radical here, I give him credit for having the courage to blast the WT. Somebody has got to do it.

  stuck between a rock and a hard place!

  so i'm new to this forum but i just thought that someone out there might be able to relate to the situation i'm in---here it goes...!

  i'm stuck in the middle of my spouse who is no longer a witness and his family who are very involved in the religion i myself was raised jewish and don't really have any commitments to any religion but don't see anything wrong with those that do however my husband is very anti anti-any type of organized religion.... at times i think he's against me because i had a normal upbringing with a big loving family and a normal childhood during which i could play sports and mingle with all types of friends regardless of their background... but my husband has a lot of anger about his childhood that he missed out on and the sports he didn't get to play and "excel" at so now he has no appreciation for things that i find important holidays or pushing yourself beyond your own physical limits just to see how far you can... life can be really difficult at times and i feel like we were raised on two different planets!!!!!!!!!!

  eventhough my husband is no longer in the religion sometimes i feel like it is a 3rd partner in our marriage that i have to constantly compete with and work hard to overshadow.... i'm trying so hard not to let this break me but at times i'm at my wits end... can you relate????

  aloha and welcome LV,

  If you can get your husband to take a look at this site that may help him a lot. Many here have gone through much of what he has I am sure. Even those have been out for a long time don't seem to be able to completely purge that lifestyle until they can really open up and talk about it. This place is a good place to purge and a good support. I think professional counceling has also been very helpful to many--a good therapist who is into treating those who have exited cults.

  I remember one couple who remained childless so they could be more dedicated to the Org. they had 2 cats though who they absolutely adored and even trained them to use the toilet. They were always talking on about their cats doing this or that and it was all fine with me, as I like cats and their cat stories added a bit of interest to the routine JW life in the congo. One day they were downcast and said they had to take the advice not to be worshipping their cats so much and weren't going to allow them to use the toilet anymore. Guess they were given a talking too by someone. Another truly insane JW story for you...

  " put forward by jw who called me (a former friend).

  i said that i would not answer that question since it would put her in an uncomfortable position.

  I promise to be nice to your mom--I don't want to hurt anyone, but I don't want to allow myself or my family to be hurt anymore either. I will just tell people like your mom that I my conscience no longer allows me to be one of JWs and leave it at that (I think) Does your mother wear amy boots?

  I am still figuring out how I can tactfully blast the WT when I am approached by JWs who are trying to suck me back into the Org. They continue to blast me for leaving, so why do I have to cover the truth from them? I don't want to hurt them, but in a sense then am I protecting them or am I protecting their beloved Org? These are questions that I continue to ponder...

  i finally feel like there is someone out there that understands what i'm going through.

  my ex-girlfriend (and still best friend) try to understand but she just can't.

  she supports me in being strong but it's just nice to vent to people who have been through the same thing.

  Aloha Jared,

  Glad you found this site. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!! When I first left the Org. I felt very alone in my thoughts and feelings. The most profound thing to me was to find out that there are thousands out there who have left the Org and trying to sorts things out and get on with their lives. What the Org doesn't want their members to know is that we are just normal people who finally had the guts to stand up and say enough is enough!
