When do the nightmares end?

just a question for the board's input.... background information:.

my wife, raised in a jw home, very popular elder as her father, living through the entire 1975 thing ("honey don't worry about passing 7th grade.

next year will be the new system..."), but beat up for years by the mind-control and spiritual abuse by the wts.... she has recently officially da'd from the society this spring, had her first birthday party ever (a huge blast of a great time!).

This site has helped me a lot. So many things were programmed into us over the years that coming here is like a purge to me. Many of the posts trigger memories--things that I had just stuffed in there without dealing with them at the time (being told not to question). So to logically sort all these issues out and to comment on how I really felt about those concepts at the time is healing. It helps me to gain a bit of myself back again. It's a process, painful sometimes, but has aided much in my recovery.

i have been calling my kids for some time now.

i am moving far away soon, and since i haven't had any contact with my daughters, i called them to let them know i was moving, and would like to say goodbye, before i flew away.

weeks went by, as ususal, and no response.

The birds are getting ready to eat us?

my mom (a baptized jw who hasn't been to a meeting willfully in years) commented today on how the birds in the neighborhood have been acting more aggressive lately.

how they've been taunting and divebombing our cat, being loud and obnoxious, etc..(the probable reason for this is that our cat probably killed a baby bird or something).

she said the birds are getting ready to eat animals.

I remember hearing something along these lines back in the late 80s. Something about how a certain type of bird was increasing in population for some unknown reason and could this perhaps be the birds who will be cleaning up the bodies after the big A? It sounded very speculative, but it was a seed that was planted in my mind and sometimes would be triggered when I saw a large group of birds...I now know how bizarrely influenced my thinking was when I read posts such as this.

Trying to fade slowly....

i am trying to fade slowly, but am finding this increasingly difficult.

i can't sit through a meeting, i had to leave at the 1/2 the other day, because of my recent enlightenment, the hypocrisy is to much for me to take.

as i left you could see the looks on people faces, "oh she's just not spritual enough".

Aloha Nemo...

A couple of years ago I got to the point I couldn't take it anymore and slowly started to pull away. Different stages of it were quite painful as I had not come to a full realization of what was actually going on and was not believing but still feeling horrible and guilty and scared. But it's getting better now and I am starting to feel human again. It's good to get some counceling if you can--it helps a lot.

i have been what?s known on this site as a lurker for the past 2 plus years.. however, i could not resist the opportunity to solicit your feedback on an e-mail i received from a co-worker who is a j-dub.. i no longer consider myself one, although i was in the org.

for 25 years.. after reviewing the e-mail my family and i became quite nausea.. please take a look and tell me what you think.. .

Yes, Sojourner when I flipped into my JW mind that is also the way I would have translated the illustration. It would be the only way I could have swallowed it "then" But "now" is a whole different story. I say that it is multilayered. The trouble with much of the WTs teachings is that the JWs read into them different things depending upon their personality and mental state of mind. I remember some who were so judgmental that they couldn't wait for Jehovah's day of vengence when he would come down and start the massive slaughter of their fellow human beings. I'm sure their sick minds would get off on this illustration and take some joy in the farmer shooting the wolf. Others kinder ones would have sat their in mild disbelief , but then the mentally exhausting assembly program would drone on and on and on until that assembly day ended and another one began. Some people just kind of got stuck in JW land for a while, whether we truly believed it or not--maybe they just kept us too tired to escape.

Rather shocking,

This illustration has some other hidden meanings in it I think--or at least at the beginning I was reading something else into it. I was thinking the illustration was leading up to the fact that you can't trust a wolf even if it an innocent little one, because a wolf will always be a wolf and will eventually turn on you. Before I read the ending I thought it was leading up to the fact that you should not feel sorry for worldly people because even if they appear nice they will turn on you in the end.

During one of the last meetings I attended, which made me extremely uneasy was a talk about worldly people and how even if they are nice people, even if they are good and moral, decent and loving-- we should avoid them-- we can't trust them and should not even be speaking with them . So the illustration to me may also be leading a person to the conclusion as to not being showing mercy to anyone outside of the flock. This whole illustration was sick sick sick. I keep thinking about all the people I was close with while in the Org--some of them intelligent and caring people and wonder how they can keep stuffing in this spiritual garbage--well, most of them are on depression medications now--the only way they can handle being one of JWs I'm sure.

i am still having an ongoing conversation with a couple of jw's on my medical message board and when i commented about the requirement of a number of hours of witnessing, this is the response i got.

is she being truthful?.

If you are a lowly "low hour publisher" they have a special program designed just for you called "the pioneer assist program". A pioneer is assigned to work with you and help to get you out in field service more. the pioneer is to work with you and evaluate you and help to get your hours up. If you don't put your hours in the box each month the elders go a-lookin for you and hunt you down until you give an explanation. I got called after I had major surgery and had been home in bed for 3 weeks. The elder barely even inquired about my health and certainly didn't act like he cared...he said he just called to get my hours...I didn't have any hours and felt guilty about that...After all I had read stories about some witnessing to nurses and doctors from their hospital beds, but I failed on that one too--blame it on the morphene.
