the final ruling just came down from judge millette for his sentencing, and he upheld the jury in their death penalty verdict.
this place is a media circus.. i can see everything from my third floor office window.....attorneys for both sides, jury members and family members of those killed being interviewed.
Good for him! Too bad his buddy Lee Boyd Malvo is getting off so easy.
Let's keep in mind that these are the same people that on October 7, 2002 drove up to a playground at a middle school in Bowie, MD., and shot a 13-year-old boy with a high powered hunting rifle and left a note behind saying, "Your children are not safe anywhere at any time."
I have a little kitty named appropriately enough, Mr. Kitty. He's black with gray stripes and looks like a little dark tiger. He's a smart little cat, too. He'll sit on a window sill and mimic bird calls. I never saw a cat do that before. Unfortunately for Mr. Kitty he doesn't get to go outside so I guess his natural hunting instincts must be all bottled up.
(Yes I'm aware that there's a Mr. Kitty on Southpark. But my Mr. Kitty pre-dates him.)
Wow, I think some people here need to take a step back and look at the things they're actually writing. I mean seriously. I don't want to sound insulting. But some of you might need some serious psychiatric help.
Zeus gets so little attention these days. He must be all lonely up there on Mt. Olympus, guess he's not transforming himself into wild animals and seducing/ravaging young maidens anymore either. These must be sad, sad days for old Zeus. I bet he's all
I only ever met a few members of the governing body and I wasn't particularly impressed with any of them. Since I don't know any of them personally, I can't say whether they're lying hypocrites or not. For all I know they sincerely believe the nonsense they spew. Either that or a lot of them could be in denial. Like a smart person once said, "no one is more blind than someone who doesn't want to see."
I guess what perturbs me the most about the GB is their claim to be the sole channel of communication and direction, the mediator between God and man. In case I'm mistaken, isn't that Jesus' job?
But let's face it, the JW's and their predecessors have had some awfully messed up leaders through out history. From what I've read: Russell was insane; Rutherford was an egomaniac; Knorr and Franz tried to legitimize the lunacy of their formers but only succeeded in messing things up worse. So are the current GB really any worse then the leaders that came before them?
At best I think the GB are ignorant fools. At worst I think they're (morally and criminally) culpable in the deaths of countless thousands who refused blood transplants and organ donations because of direction from the GB.
I think it's impossible to talk about all JW as a group or a generalization. When I was a JW, I sure knew a lot of people who thought that because they were witnesses they were better than worldly people. I also knew a lot of witnesses who thought they were better than a lot of other witnesses.
I think the Watchtower directly encourages this. Not only with their constant admonitions to be no part of the world, but also through the phrase, "bad associations spoil useful habits." How many hundreds of times do you think you heard that?
I honestly don't know if I ever felt that way. I don't remember feeling superior. If anything, I felt the opposite. And I think many, many other witnesses did not, in fact, look down on people -- they just wanted to help them in a misguided way.
I bet, however, if one conducted a cross-sectional study of any major religious group you'd find relatively similar outcomes in regards to feelings of superiority among group members.
here are some lovely instructions drafted by syn, and hosted by valis, on how to navigate to the site yourself.. http://www.sassquatch.com/syn/un_ngo_letter/.
Wow! So the JWs are lying hypocrites? Who would have thunk it?
Actually thanks for the link. I have several family members still in the borg: father, mother, brother. Maybe this will open their eyes a little. Then again they can be disfellowshiped simply for talking to me, so....
wondering if anyone has seen it yet, and what the general consensus was around here.
i saw it a week ago this coming monday, overall i liked it, and didnt really see what the controvesy was, thought that the aramaic w/ english subtitles was a nice touch, cinematography was great, watching mary's griefmoved me a whole lot more than watching jesus get tortured, satan rocked visually, i especially enjoyed the fact that he was portrayed by a female, [that was not a comment to instigate the femenists on the board] though he had one too many hollywood moments, i really like the fact that jesus actually came across as arrogant, not the weakling he is always portrayed as during the easter season, he actually had some nads, and had something to say, that was cool, made him a lot more real in my eyes, after walking out of the theater though, i could only keep thinking to myself this was such a tragedy in the likes of homer, a hero bound for disaster, a legend told through the centuries, much like king arthur became a legend based on the events of a real man, im thinking the same must have happened with him, 80 flogs with bamboo into it i was thinking endorphines and adrenaline, yet it kept going into a second round, how he was able to walk after that and carry a cross, seemed a bit ludicrous, comments??
Simon, I think there is a third option besides charging a penny per e-mail sent or breaking the legs of spammers although the latter sounds kind of fun, lol.
I think if ICANN and internet registrar companies would aggressively pursue and shut down the domains that spam is sent from and paired that with creating a list of people and organizations barred from purchasing future domains would greatly cut the amount of spam on the net.
Yes it would be an expensive system to set up, but the cost saving that reducing the bandwidth usage of spam could possibly save ISPs, broadband leasers and telecom companies might generate enough profit incentive to implement it -- just an idea, not necessarily a very good one.
Simon, I know I haven't really introduced myself to you yet, cause I'm a newbie. But, I just wanted to say thanks for the discussion board. It's helped a lot of people.
