  Have any of you ever addressed the society re: jw's who are 'news worthy'?

  this has bothered me for a while now, maybe due to there being a few high profile poeple who are/will be/were jw's.. my x was a professional musician when we became jw's.

  he was advised, i don't know how may times, to basically get out of the profession, etc.

  to a point when he would on occasion do a wedding as a gift, his songs were written down and scruitinized by the elders, blah.

  just thought i would introduce myself.

  i've lurked here for a while, lately i feel like i need some support.

  Great you came in from the dark.

  My experience was to decide that I was going to live my life and no one elses. You can no more make decissions for your father on how he should live his life, than him for you (unless you are a minor and in his home, in TX you can leave legally at 17). I was always the black sheep of my family, so leaving made no difference. But I truly feel one of the most important laws of life many people don't understand is that this life is yours. To live your life to please other people is distructive of your own mental health and personal welfare. The second time I left (and final) I actually told myself "This is it... I'm going to do what Bryan wants to do, and screw everyone else." And I have never been happier.

  I know it's upsetting to have the ones you love to turn their backs on you, but that is their life. My father hasn't spoke to me in seven years. I feel sorry for him, he's missing out on so much.

  I hope you find your way, and realize it won't be easy, but most likely, in time you will feel so free and happy. And unfortunatly you probably will learn that all that love you had in your life was never unconditional.

  Flowers for Algernon - anyone ever read it?

  i remember this from school............it was one of those short stories that were required reading.........i remember being totally swept away by it and deeply saddened by the ending.. .

  daniel keyes wrote little sf but is highly regarded for one classic, flowers for algernon.

  as a 1959 novella it won a hugo award; the 1966 novel-length expansion won a nebula.

  i once spent some time living in a womens refuge with my four children escaping from the domestic violence and emotional abuse that my husband deemed to be appropriate to bestow upon us.

  apparently he had the blessing of my congregation to do so.

  This auction is for a 6 volume set of green New World Translation bible. So it is the complete set of Hebrew and Greek scriptures. All green in color. 6 seperate books. 1950-1960.

  Vol. 1 1953. Cover has damage.

  Vol. 2 1955. Edges of pages are dirty. Front page and inside has pen marks. In the worst condition out of all.

  Vol. 3 1957. NO underlining or writing.

  Vol. 4 1958. Has underlining in pen inside. First page has piece torn out.

  Vol. 5 1960. In good condition. NO underlining or writing.

  Greek scriptures. 1950. Inside front cover has marker. Cover is worn. Spine is faded.

  All published by Watchtower Bible and Tract Society.

  Response from my elders about UN

  i presented that document to an elder from our hall... he called and told me exactly what i expected they would say (library card deal).

  so i wrote the un and got a letter back saying they were totally seperate and so forth, and fwd'd it to the same elder.

  he told me at the meeting that night that he called again and got in touch with someone who knew something.

  The first official reply from a Watch Tower official was made by Paul Gillies of the Witnesses' branch office in Britian on October 22nd: membership as a NGO was simply a result of "getting a library card" at the UN facilities in New York. Gillies did not explain the annual re-certification process for NGO members which the Watch Tower Society participated in. Nor did he comment on the numerous articles in Awake! which promoted the UN.
