Considering that it took them two days to teach the elders how use the index, it's amazing that they aren't booking a month of intensive study on the blood fractions.

BIG ELDERS MEETING ON THE BLOOD ISSUE! SHOCKING CHANGES AFOOT!?
by Gill ini have just been informed that something is going in with the blood issue within the borg.. a large meeting is being held this weekend with local elders and also many elders from all over the country/the united kingdom and members from the bethel and hospital liason committee to discuss the blood issue.. is anyone else aware of what this is going to be about?.
i wondered whether this would be part of the expected or possible changes that the organization is expected to announce this year that might lose them many members.
any elders here know anything?.

"The Exodus Conspiracy" by Andrew Collins
by Cellist ini just picked up a book called: "tutankhamun - the exodus conspiracy" by andrew collins and chris ogilvie-herald.
has anyone heard anything about this book or read it?
i'm wondering if there's been any reviews out on it's accuracy.

Thanks everyone. I just went and read the reviews, don't know why I didn't think of that in the first place. So far there is alot of "may be", "could be", "seems like", etc.
I already know that the bible's version of "the exodus" is just a fable. I don't really want to replace it with another one.
Devon, that's interesting. Is he a good teacher?

by The wanderer in<!-- .style1 { font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; } .style2 { font-family: georgia, "times new roman", times, serif; font-size: 18px; color: #003300; } .style3 { font-family: georgia, "times new roman", times, serif; font-size: 17px; color: #003300; font-weight: bold; } --> did the family book have the right principles?the old family book centered on virtues and principles to help make your family life happy.
it talked about respecting each other, cooperating with each other and ultimately bonding .
with each other.. separating the watchtowers ideologyif you separated the watchtowers philosophy and ideology, the family book would work in many.

It's been a long time since I've read that book. But what I can remember of it is that the only good information was what I had always been taught as "common sense". My "worldly" parents taught me all those principles.

Christianity did NOT borrow from pagan "Dying-Rising" God motifs
by yaddayadda init is a fallacy that the early christians weaved the tale of a dying and rising god-man on the loom of mystery religions.
the idea of the dying-rising god as a parallel to the christian concept of the death and resurrection of christ was popularized by james frazer in the golden bough, first published in 1906. scholar edwin yamauchi (1974; easter: myth, hallucination, or history?
) has observed that, although frazer marshaled many parallels, the foundation was very fragile and has been discredited by a host of scholars since frazers ideas were at the height of their popularity in the 1960s.

Well, I have to say that I definitely believe that Paul taught a different gospel .... from himself. If everything attributed to Paul was actually written by Paul, then the man was a schizophrenic. Trying to follow Paul's writings leads to cognitive dissonance, in my opinion.

News from the congregation
by Vivamus inmy mum is still technically a jw.
i say technically, cuz she has no intention of dying from boredom by going to a meeting.
so i'm cool with it.

Hello Vivamus,
We like to hear news from the congregations we've been associated with. Most of the news though is about deaths and marriage breakups. Sad, but makes me glad I'm not a part of it anymore.
Nice to see you posting again. So .... tell us about your new job. :)

Ok so this is it
by The salmon inive been "in the truth" ever since i was 6 years old when my mother was baptised in the late 70`s.
so i sort of got dragged along to the meetings and therin started the indoctrination that was to prove to be my undoing.
ive been reading this page for a while now and read some very slick posts from dissillusioned ex members.

New Light
by choosing life ini watched a documentory on cults on the history channel last night.
what jumped out at me was that they said that cults could not exist if they didn't get people to believe in "new light" and "present truth".
the fact that they used those exact words sent a chill down my spine.. they also stated that cults are apocalyptic and believed heavily that god had chosen them to rule the new world after armegeddon.

JWs nonviolent? What about what happened to Frosty?! lol
But seriously, what about Danny Hazzard's experience? What about all the physically beaten children and spouses? I think that many of the modern JWs are not too far off from violence.
