do you think they are more succeptible to illness than others?

We all know the elders have no professional training in dealing with or counseling those struggling with mental illness.
I can't advise enough that anyone facing the problems of mental illness, become educated about their condition and seek outside professional assistance.
next week the thirdson family is traveling to thirdson's country of birth.
we will be attending the wedding of a nephew and will meet nearly all the family at the event.
this includes two jw siblings and their families who i have not seen in almost 10 years.
We instead, are staying on a sheep farm.....

my parents became dubs in the late 70's, after the 1975 debacle.
admitedly, my mom did have one dub relative on her side of the family but the main reason my parents became dubs was because of one influential and convincing pioneer couple who studied with them.
i know we are all mostly victims of victims but often i think of what if, what if that pioneer couple had never studied with my parents, perhaps i would have had a much better childhood and a better start to my adulthood.

an interesting thing happened when i visited my jw family a couple weeks ago.
now, i consider myself a pretty well-adjusted person.
i spent the first 30 years of my life in the org., but now i have a wonderful life with my husband and children.

Unfortunately, a high percentage.
so i'm sitting here having coffee and i hear a very distinguishable sound out on my deck.
i looked out and this is what i saw.
i know they are around but i've never seen one come so close to the house before!

You might want to take a look around the yard - hawks will hang around after catching their prey, looking for more.
We had been out to Applebee's and had eaten chicken fajitas - we returned home and when our pet chicken didn't come running across the yard to greet us we were worried.
Shortly thereafter, we spot a hawk sitting on the fence - he'd fly away and keep returning. Eventually I went to look over in that area, and I found my pet chicken's HEAD laying in the brush! Just the head - I freaked out and knew what Chirpy's demise had been.
I didn't eat chicken for a very long time after that.
saw a great little piece on headline news or cnn the other night, they showed a memorial celebration of the 90th year of world war one.
now think about this, how many veterans do you think attended from world war one ???????.
the one veteran who layed down a wreath, was 108, and he talked a little, the best he could, and thanking his fellow war heroes.. this piece really hit home with me, because, didn't the watchtower once say, the generation of 1914 will not pass away, remember the early teaching, "they would have to be able to understand the things going on", "first started with 15 years olds, then ten year old, then can't be babies born, then can be babies born.
Just seven months after our "walkaway" from JW, my husband's dad was awarded with 7 purple hearts,(60 years later, due to lost paperwork and red tape) - He had been a POW in Japan for three years and witnessed many of his comrades beheaded. We'd heard all the stories over the years - never really appreciating them of course or getting the full gist of what he'd experienced - not allowing ourself to FEEL the normal emotions.
Well--you've never seen a prouder EXJW stand beside his 80 year old dad at the ceremony and parade that followed with tears flowing freely. If the awards had been given in any earlier year, my husband would not have attended. It was a very surreal experience for him and one day a movie may come out of it. My father-in-law has already been approached by a producer in Hollywood who would like the story.
all through our being raised as jw's, we've been told that we should sacrifice for the kingdom.
we've been todl that the more hours we put in, the more we will be blessed.
we've been told that we should "add" by giving money, by giving time, by giving our whole lives over to this religion, and oftentimes, the very gifts that god gave us have been sacrificed and ignored.. the governing body ignores the power it has.

It always irked me that we never did have ANY encouragement to be the best that we could be. (Had to join the Army for that!)
My husband recently asked a former JW "friend" in a very thought provoking way - Have you EVER done anything to the best of your ability?
The reply was an immediate, "NO" I just found that to be so sad that at 35 years old, he'd never had that satisfaction and joy of accomplishment.

Beautiful creature - keep any cats inside since he's checking the place out for some reason. Our pet chicken disappeared to one of these guys.
