  why take the time to "fade"?

  hey guys,.

  i'm perplexed by something and i don't know how well it will be received on this board but i'm really curious.

  why did you take the time to fade away vs. just daing yourself?.

  When I first came to this board I referred to myself as" fading",

  where actually my family and I were firm "walkaways", ( just fading from the memory of those at the hall).

  I agree, that to stand up for yourself and who you are is what will bring you the most satisfaction in life. We were always pounded over the head that we needed to be proud of the fact that we represented Jehovah. Why not be proud of the fact of who YOU are? Be true to yourself and be courageous, firm, and bold about your convictions. I know, it's easier said than done and there are any myriad of situations folks deal with that make this strategy difficult and I feel for all of them. Personally, I knew that I could not play a game of missing a meeting here and a convention there, feigning confusion or depression, etc... I did and do have family "in" - but living in peace with my own self had to take precedence. Their decisions are something they have to live or die with.

  what is the best way to quit this "truth" if you're family is jehovah's witness and u pretend like ur a devoted witness.

  Be courageous, firm, and bold.

  It worked for my son - he stood up for what he truly believed and shared his thoughts freely with us as JW parents. How could we not appreciate this, having raised him to be true to convictions? By allowing him to be his own person instead of one of the homogenous group, we all woke up to the fact that we all had been led as sheep to the slaughter - ( more in a private message to you, click on inbox at top left )

  Staring into the distance, drooling and mumbling works too.

  .....but, don't count on this - that is exactly the type folks that my sons and I enjoyed talking to and calling back on as they found them such an interesting addition to their day.

  Should jws take part inthe Olympics?

  i understand they were banned in ad 390 because of their pagan origins by a roman emperior,therefore should jws take part in the olympics?

  This year's Olympics have touched me in such a special way. For the first time I have been able to watch them without a critical eye thinking that these young people are wasting their time by giving so much of themselves to their sport instead of Jehowah and that one day they will just be dead.

  I am now marveling at the commitments they have made to excel in their sports and enjoy each and every one of the stories shared with the viewers on their lives. Their young, healthy bodies reflect the mindset that it takes to move forward and compete in this way. The satisfaction they receive from having made it that far must be tremendous and what a life experience it is for them to learn and grow from.

  With an Olympic family history of my own, that was denied ever having existed due to dubism taking over, I now cry tears of joy that our exit can awaken so many new feelings.

  Minimum hour requirement for publishers: 12

  Our congregation had a HUGE chart that went on stage on an easel at the beginning of each month during the service meeting that showed all the statistics for the previous month in the ministry - hours, back calls, studies etc.

  Sandwich boards we had to "wear" as kids- for street corner witnessing and the big signs on top of cars advertising assemblies.

  johnny and i go back all the way to childhood.

  we met in elementary school all those years ago.

  he was a chubby, one-eyed kid with freckles and a coat that didn't fit him and i was a tall and vanishingly thin introvert who wore dress pants instead of blue jeans.

  Swearing on the platform

  did you every hear anyone say something really dodgy from the platform when giving a talk?

  i heard a couple of stories of people getting really enthusiastic when giving a talk or pray accidently swearing.

  one time in my book study group a sister called someone a dickhead in her answer, it was very hard not to laught.

  I posted it another time, but it was during a Sunday talk and the elder used the word "crap" and immediately was so embarassed and went on into a full explanation of apology for having said it.

  What is your Favorite Scene from a Movie?

  i thought about this topic last night for the board when watching one of my favorite movies.. 1. the man from snowy river- the part when they are going after the expensive colt and they get to the edge of the cliff and all the other riders stop and "jim" keeps going and leaps down the cliff after the wild horses.

  i absolutely love that part of the movie...everytime its on i have to watch it, if not just to see this part only.. 2. love and basketball- when she tells him she will play for his heart...awwww first time i started crying.

  and then the music they had playing in the background made it even worse.

  Kill Bill Volume 2

  Favorite scene and accompanying score: Uma Thurman being buried alive and breaking her way out of the pine box while ten feet under. The deep love for her child and desire to lead a normal life was her impetus.. I related completely as that was me, (ie: my avatar) breaking out of the cult with the same determination. Bill = the WTS and the ruination it brings to lives.

  It gave me a literal panic attack at the theatre, and I was just about to run out - very well done. I know some have a hard time with the title and the satirical violence of the first Volume. I covered my eyes at parts of it, but until you have seen Volume 2, you only know half the story. It's totally different than Vol 1 and is full of dialogue vs. fighting. But, they both make up the whole.
