This sadness and depression are what I see in older folks. It isn't "this system" that depresses them, it is "this religion" and its false promises.
If they would actually preach the message of Christ and act like Christians and start giving to others they would have joy. This is a religion based solely on survival, and survival is a primal and selfish instinct. A life lived on instinct must end up empty. The leaders of this religion bear the responsibility. I feel sorry for the older ones. The younger ones seem a lot smarter to me. Certainly the ones that are leaving are a hell of a lot smarter than i ever was.
Thanks for the post.

Guard against "Independent Thinking"
by PinTail inyes when i heard them say to guard against "independent thinking" at .
assembles, congregation meetings, and in print, i immediately feel a cold feeling run down my back, like something evil and not jehovah.
thinking about it now, i can't" understand how everyone else who is still a witness cannot be just as unsettled by the admonishment to guard against "independent thinking".

Every other area of my life I always ran the other way whenever some one started telling me "how" to think, except religion. I should have started thinking for myself 30 years ago. Yes, it is the mark of a cult.

Question: Why was it ok to sell unbled meat to a foriegner for them to eat?
by Lady Liberty inhello all... ok, i have a question for any takers: deuteronomy 14:21 says this:.
21 "you must not eat any body [already] dead.
so, it is obvious that this is why they could not eat a animal that they found that had died, say from natural causes.

Let's not leave out the economic damage that an animal who dies of itself would do to its owner. This was a rural agrarian culture and many of these families owned preciuos few animals. To deny a family the use of the animal--- whether as food or as money---- wasn't something God was willing to do. It all came back to what has already been said marvelously: man has to acknowledge God as the giver of life and he acknowledges this in Bible times through ceremony. God didn't seek to make things more difficult for people, but to give them a break. The WTS should give their followers the same break. These guys are evil.

I gave my first student talk in 1971. Of the servant body then, only 1 made it past 1976 as a JW. Those guys had what you are calling "heart." They believed in a brotherhood. The "Truth" was a shared experience. I remember people being happy.
Who is happy now? Most dubs don't even READ the Bible. I told my wife the other day that it was her "sacred duty" to submit to the FDS and she vehemently denied that it was. When I showed her her own underlined copy of the WT study article, she didn't even ACKNOWLEDGE what a statement like that means! They do not even THINK about what their beliefs are. If they did, they'd leave.
I know of no person that is actually JOYOUS in my cong. They are all riddled with problems and waiting on the "end" to solve them all, when all they have to do is take some action on their part to at least ameliorate their situations. And they are aging and dieing, clinging to "Paradise" that never came.
The talks are sterile, forced. The elders are company men. Old people go neglected and lonesome. The Kingdom Hall is a sad, sad place on a Sunday.

As A Witness Did You Believe That Jesus Was Your Mediator??
by Lady Liberty ingood afternoon everyone.. happy wednesday!!.

I found out about this in preperation for Pioneer Service School as part of the curriculum is the hammering home of the all important position of the FDS, and part of this is that you can't have Christ without them. Anyway, when this part was covered in the school, our CO asked the question about who was the mediator. Almost everyone said JC. Well, the younger ones were very confused and vocal about the correct answer from the WTS. They all believed JC was their mediator. Not so. It was very enlightening to many people. It was one of the moments that helped break my mind free from the grip of the WTS. It's ironic that what helped me leave the Org.(I am a precipitous fader) was their own indoctrination school. 2 solid weeks of nothing but the GB and FDS was circuit overload for me. I was able to see it clearly for what it was: lies and deception, double speak, propaganda.

The Watchtower July 1 Questions From Readers - Each one decides for himself
by garybuss inthe watchtower july 1 questions from readers.
then are we to conclude that jehovah's witnesses oppose the people's use of transfusions?.
that would be a wrong conclusion.

The WTS has always been a master of deception. They use more spin than the politicians do. Of course "everyone decides for himself." What's new about that? Nothing. What the WTS will not tell the world is that if you "choose" for yourself to go against their policy then they df you, or lately simply say you DA'd yourself.
If I stand or fall on my own before God, what do I need the WTS for? I actually asked an elder friend of mine that question a few days ago. He could not provide an honest answer. Actually, the corner the WTS paints itself into, if one takes their statement at face value, is one of obsolescence.
Thanks Gary

Did you ever 'Turn Someone In' to the elders? Do you regret it now?
by AK - Jeff ini am not proud of that, for i know the pain i caused someone as i look back.. i turned in 4 people for 'gross sins' over my tenure as a jw.
i wish i could take it back now.
were these people guilty of 'sin' as defined by the wts?

I never ratted on anyone. As an elder some in the cong, tried to "rat" on others to me and my response to them was always the same: "Have you spoken to so and so and tried to win your brother?" The answer was always "no."
JW's aren't interested in "winning" their brother. They are interested in their own survival and if it means turning in their own flesh and blood, then that's what they'll do.... all in the name of God, of course. The WTS is evil, man. EVIL.
