"And the gambling well I won't be doing that again anytime soon. What a waste of money."
You're lucky you didn't win big the first time out because those who do, I have heard, have a high liklihood of becoming addicted to gambling.

Psychology is the deception of the devil
by poppers inwhile driving today i decided to listen to am radio for a change, and came across a religious station.
their guest (don't remember who) had just written a book denouncing psychology and psychotherapay, calling it the "devil's deception".
he derided christian clergy who have taken training in counseling, saying they are pawns of the devil if they don't rely soley on the bible in helping people.

Everybody who called in gave him their support, which isn't surprising I guess - those who disagree probably don't make up much of their listening audience. Listening left me wondering if we were back in the middle ages.

Why do the British dubs have such an animosity to Harry Potter?!
by CaptainSchmideo inif i have ever mentioned that i've seen the movies or read the books to a witness in gb, i get the kind of reaction that used to be reserved for smurfs here in america.. i am not naive enough to not understand any discomfort with a school for witches, but this stuff is about as threatening as casper the friendly ghost.
i find the books charming, if a little long winded and formulaic.
the movies, especially the later two, tighten up the plots and jettison a lot of excess baggage.

There are lots of mainstream Christian churches that get their collective panties bunched up over HP.

are we free?
by nomoreTRUTHplz ini don't mean this is as a debate, but merely an observation.
i have noticed that a lot (not all) of us post and participate in topics that are nothing but arguements and debates over what should be believed.
i have also been guilty of this, but just began to wonder, are we really free?.

What a great question! I wish more people would ask this of themselves. kid-A touches something fundamental when he stated: "I know that the cognitive framework laid down in my brain from my earliest exposure to watchtower teachings STILL exerts some control over how I interact with and perceive the world." This leads to an even deeper question: Who is it that seems not to be free? Who is it that has struggles with issues of what to believe? Just what is "freedom" anyway? Such questions are the cornerstone of discovering something pure and enduring, where questions of freedom and pain dissolve.

Do you believe in perfection?
by LittleToe inif something meets the standard for which it was designed, is that a reasonable definition of perfection?.
like when the first rudimentary wheel was built, and was surely perfect for the job?.

"Perfection" is only an idea which is agreed/disagreed with by a personalized viewpoint. With no viewpoint, everything is what it is.

the Bible must be supplemented by something else
by drew sagan inthere is no book better to deal with than the holy bible.
it is symbolically called the sword of the spirit; and certainly it is better to manufacture and distribute the sword of the spirit than to engage in the arms race and in making the munitions of carnal warfare, which only result in injuring, maiming and killing.
but the bible must be supplemented by something else.

Pope Prays For Peace and Then???
by Blueblades inpope prays for peace, jesus resurrected 2,000 years ago!
no peace, no answers to prayers asking for peace.
why do these prayers fall on deaf ears?
-
poppers
What would you have the pope pray for? Praying for peace can appeal to anybody no matter what their religious affiliation. Were he to be silent on Easter Sunday would be unthinkable, not that his praying or remaining silent would make and real difference. Perhaps a more effective appeal from the pope would be to ask that all people everywhere remain silent and discover the peace that is already here, and which flows from one's true essence.
