I remember years ago when I was on "fire" as a devout JW's a girl at the bus stop handed me a book Crisis of Conscience in 1981. I did not know what the book was all about and she told me that JW's was a "cult" and very Satanic in nature. She told me that I should leave the JW's if I wanted salvation in Jesus Christ. She handed me some born-again christian tract and invited me to her church. I almost broke my neck trying to run away from her because the "Apostate-alert" went off in my head. I got on the bus and actually glanced at the book and had a inner turmoil. I felt so guilty at reading Apostate literature that I went to one of the elders that was a very good friend of the family and who was like an uncle to me and I told him about the book. He told me that Apostates are always lying about JW's and would never debate with JW's in public because JW's would tear them apart and expose their lies. Now here I am 25 years later and I wish I had read that book from cover to cover because I would have left JW's in 1981(my baptismal date) instead of leaving JW's in the 90's. I was just wondering posters did anyone of you ever have an encounter with a "die hard" apostate and still clung onto JW's?. Do you feel foolish now that you did not listen to them?

Did you ever talk to an "apostate" years before you actually left JW's?

Before you became a JW's did you hear "all" of the horror stories about JW
by booker-t inmy mom became a jw's when i was around 4 in 1969 so i don't really know what it is like to not be a jw's and become one.
at 4 i was dragged to all of the meetings and that was the way of life for me and my siblings.
but for jw's that were of an adult age did "opposers" tell you all of the "horror stories" about jw's before you became a jw?

I think if someone had showed me the false prophecies, beth sarim, Johannes Greber, doctrinal flip-flops I would have ran from JW's. I just do not understand how a person could become a JW's after seeing all of the skeletons in JW's past.

by booker-t inyears ago when i was attending my old kh there was an elder that was very stern.
bro glen(not his real name) used to be very firm in telling students about their talks not being good, or where they needed to improve.
i know i was "terrified" of bro glen.

Years ago when I was attending my old KH there was an elder that was very stern. Bro Glen(not his real name) used to be very firm in telling students about their talks not being good, or where they needed to improve. I know I was "terrified" of Bro Glen. I always thought something was strange about his wife because she always seem to be sick and not at the meetings. Sis Glen was very shy-like and almost seemed like she was a "stepford" wife. Then one night the police were called at the Glen's home, it seems that Bro Glen got "drunk" and chased his wife and family out at gunpoint. I was in total shock and this was not he-say, she-say, the Glens had a daughter around my older sister's age and they were "best friends" and told each other everything. And the Glen's daughter told my sister that her father was a "wife beater" and abused Sis Glen often and that is why Sis Glen missed alot of meetings. Years later Sis Glen finally had had enough and left Bro Glen. It was the talk of the congo. But Bro Glen was "never" DF'd or Reproved. In fact he became a CO. So I am now wondering does Wife Beating occur often amoung JW's? Do you know of any JW's Elders or MS that "beat" their wives? And if so were they DF'd?

Do JW's elders report other elders for wrongdoing or do they sweep it under the carpet? I remember there was a elder in my old cong that did not like another elder. He would always bad-mouth this particular elder in field service. He was always talking about the elders clothes looking like a "bum". So if this elder hated the other elder I am wondering would he rat this elder out if he knew of some wrongdoing. Posters do JW's elders report other elders Or is it like the Police Dept an all for one and one for all attitude?

Do you think that the Book of "Genesis" is a fairytale?
by booker-t ini mentioned before on another post that i am in college working on my ba degree and i am having such a "hard" time with believing in the bible since taking my science class.
the information that i am learning is totally destroying my faith in the bible.
i still believe in jehovah and jesus and would never chose the "atheist" way but i am wondering if maybe the bible is just a book of fairytales to teach us a lesson.

The other day our science class went to the Museum of the Dinosaurs and I almost fell out of my seat when I look at the age of some of these Dinosaurs as over 300 million years. The bible makes it appear that the earth is only 6-10 thousand years old and that animals are somewhere around 6- 10 thousands years old. Is this my former JW teachings or Do most religions teach that earth and animals are only 10 thousand years old? If that is what most of them believe then my science teacher is right and the bible is full of errors.

Do you think that most "thin"people have hatred towards "heavy" people?
by booker-t ini know this might sound abit "paranoid" but as i mentioned on other posts before i am a "heavy" person who is losing weight.
so far i have lost 65 pounds and i am still losing through a "strict"diet and exercise.
i was at a restaurant the other day and there were 4 "thin" people sitting at a table across from a "very heavy overweight" man.

So far I have lost 65 pounds and I am still losing through a "strict"diet and exercise. I was at a restaurant the other day and there were 4 "thin" people sitting at a table across from a "very heavy overweight" man. These 4 people were making very cruel comments about this guy who was not bothering anybody and mining his own business. I could not believe how "rude" people could be. They were making grunting noises like a pig everytime the man went up to get some more food. We were in a buffet restaurant so he went up several times. I was terrified to get my food for fear they would be making fun of me. Being overweight makes you very "paranoid" around thin people because you are always wondering what they are saying about you behind your back. I saw several "thin" people go up to the buffet several times and these 4 thin people did not make any comments but as soon as the heavyset guy went up then they had a problem with it. I know from personal experience that "thin" people can eat until their stomachs bust open and nobody seems to make a comment but as soon as a "heavy" person gets a second helping you would think that World War 3 was here. I have heard many "horror stories" from other overweight people saying how thin people have been rude to them. One guy told me that his friend did not want him in his wedding because of his weight. I went through the exact same thing when some years back my "best"friend drop me from his wedding party because I was too heavy. I was so hurt I could have cried a million tears. But my friend got his come-uppings because his fiance ran off with another man and the wedding never took place. Posters do you have thin friends that hate heavy people or do you know some thin people that hate heavy people or are we just "paranoid"?

Are "Born-Again Christians" a Cult?
by booker-t ini know alot of people might be offended by this question but i think it is a good question to ask.
born-agains are always pointing the cult finger at jw's, mormons, moonies, 7-day adventists, oneness pentacostals, armstrong, etc; but could they themselves be a cult?
as the old saying goes "it takes one to know one"

Are Apostates "Obsessed" with Jehovah's Witnesses?
by booker-t ini was talking with my friend the other day and he was telling me that he was going to several kh to debate with jw's elders to look in their libraries and show jw's the "cover ups" from their own books etc; this man has "no life" except debating with jw's.
i feel enough is enough!
when are apostates going to just let it go?

I feel enough is enough! When are Apostates going to just let it go? I have stated many times over that this is not good for the health of a person to have so much hostility towards JW's. My friend pickets the JW's assemblies, spends most of his time making photocopies from old JW's books and magazines etc; I applaud him for his concern for helping JW's but it is getting tired and down right mentally exhausting. We cannot even go to a movie or out to lunch without the subjuct of JW's coming up. He looks at all of the lastest magazines trying to find errors. Sometimes I just want to have fun and not talk religion. My friend is very nice and a good person but I think he is going overboard. Posters what are your opinions? Is my Apostate friend "obsesses" with JW's or what. He keeps wanting to go over to my "devout" JW's mom's house to debate with her. I keep telling him it is a "waste of time" because my mom has debated several "Apostates" and nothing has changed her. She even had several JW's elders at her house one time when I debated with her for 5 hours and she would not budge.

Is Armaggeddon/Rapture only a "myth" that is not going to happen?
by booker-t inas most of us ex-jws/jws have heard for years "armaggeddon is around the corner" and many born-agains/ex-bacs have heard for many years as well "the rapture is on its way".
i am personally sick to death of waiting for something that might just be a "myth" or dream that we got hooked into believing.
any thought about this posters were we all "duped" into believing a "fantasy"?
