  Need Advice

  i am going to try to make this short.. i have a best friend who is a faded jw (not df'd, just inactive and attends meetings infrequently).

  i have been friends with her since we were toddlers so i know her pretty well.

  she was in a 20 year marriage with a jw who also happened to be a drug addict and abuser, etc.

  The JW Name

  i was talking to my boyfriend last night and i mentioned something about the jw's adopting the name "jw" in 1935.

  (that surprised him) please keep in mind i have been inactive for 2 years and i never really cared before that, so my memory is a bit rusty.

  he asked when they began and i said sometime in the late 1800s.

  The fear returns

  so my daughter (14 y/o and i will call her r) finds out some girl at school is a jw.

  so r approaches her and tells her that she "used to be a witness".

  the girl was very friendly and told r about the convention this past weekend.

  Saturday Morning Visit

  we live in a brand new neighborhood and moved in a little over a year ago.

  i saw "them" driving around about 6 months ago, but today i got my first visit from some dubs.

  i had my daughter answer the door -- i told her to say "my mom says she is not home" (i remembed that response i once got when i was out in service and i found it amusing).

  Family Matters

  so i have been inactive technically for about 2.5 years now.

  before i became inactive i was literally struggling to get my 1 hour in per month and half the time i studied with my daughter to get that hour in.

  my daughter at 8 years of age began questioning the organization with things like "why won't they let women give talks to the audience, etc.".

  do you still subscribe to the wt & awake?

  i am curious because i noticed that some here seem to know what is coming up in the current mags (i know some people here are active jw) -- but if you are df'd or inactive (like me) do you still like reading the mags?

  i have found that i have no desire to see the magazines -- let alone read them.. thanks.. purza (who is just curious)

  Heading to NY this weekend

  my boyfriend and i are heading to ny this weekend.

  we decided to drive into ct and stay a night there and then two nights on long island.

  any recommendations for restaurants or places to see?

  Has this happened to anyone?

  so my mother opens the door for a discussion (via email) and i totally freeze up.

  i find it almost impossible to tell her how i feel about the jw religion.

  when i finally figure out what i want to say, she completely dismisses my thoughts.

  How to respond?

  i am still a newbie and i have been on vacation for the past week so i haven't had a chance to catch up.

  but i have a little problem and i was wondering how others have handled a similar situation.

  if a similar topic has come up recently, i apologize for the duplication.. my mother and i have always had a love/hate relationship.
