We must have confused my daughter when she was young because everything that was cooked on the grill was"Turken", probably because most of the time we were eating either turkey or chicken.

Memory Lane

mrs. exjdub and i were talking about the jwd board the other night and, after discussing many of the topics that are on the board, we started reminiscing.

pretty soon we started laughing until we had tears in our eyes remembering the "joy" of conventions in the old days.

mrs. exj remembers camping in scarborough, maine during the convention and waking up in the morning to damp sleeping bags from the moisture in the air, trying to run to the community showers before the session, feeling dirty all of the time because of the dust, sitting in the blazing sun at the racetrack, getting rained on, etc.

Ps: Thanks to everyone for all of the wit and humor on the board. I laugh on a daily basis and pass it along to Mrs. Exjdub and the exdubettes all of the time.

report cards

we just recently moved to a new state.

where we were living, there were only 500 people, the school system was very small.

our son's kindergarten was combined with the pre-school level, which stunted the things they should have been learning.

Welcome to the board five_crew.

What a tough situation. Temper my comments with the knowledge that I am not a big believer in the public school system. It didn't work for me, and it didn't work for my kids...at least not when we moved from a small town school to a bigger town. If you are looking for a fix within the school system, you likely will not find it. I was happy to hear that your son is aware that you place more importance on his "doing his best" rather than a grade. I think that it is important that children not have their confidence undermined.

Our kids struggled when they went from the small town school atmosphere to a larger town/school. They just were not "getting" the math. They were always voracious readers, though, and I think that helped alot. We ended up taking them out of the school system and home schooling them. I realize that this is not for everyone, in fact it is impossible for some because of work issues etc., but it did make a difference and both of my children are in college now. If home schooling is not an option would you consider a tutor? Sometimes having someone else with a different approach can make a big difference.

Kids, like your son, can (and do) fall through the cracks of the school system. If you cannot do any of the above options I would strongly recommend that you get active with the school. Get involved with programs and be a "squeeky wheel". People that do not demand help will not get any. As uncomfortable as it may be, conference with the teacher and the principal, vice principle, whoever it takes until you get a solution. It is not your son's failure, it is the school's fault and the fault of the system. Teachers can hardly get throught the normal day with the strain that is put on them, so they certainly don't have the time to help a struggling student. When my kids were in school I was conferencing on a weekly basis until they straightened out some of the issues that we had. It still fell short, but at least it improved some.

As far as the friend issue...that's a tough one. Maybe someone will have some ideas for you that will work. That is something that I have not had to deal with in a long time and so I do not have any suggestions. Regards.

Do you lie about your age in your profile???

we all have to be careful about how much information we give out over the net,,it is wise and prudent in some areas,, but what about age???.

now i know many women don't like to admit they are over 29 what do you think is the percentage of correct profiles in reguards to age??.

this is private information and i don't want this to be a prying type of thread just reasonable discussion.

Worried about work :S

to give everyone a brief history.... i started a 4 to 6 month contract to hire position in early feb. the hope is that i will eventually become a permanent employee.

a few weeks ago i had a little chat with my supervisor asking him how things were looking for me to become a perm employee... he responded that there was currently a hireing freeze that was just put into place and i needed wait.

he added an ominous comment that i could look for perm work elsewhere if i wanted... but added that i was doing a great job.. today i came into work to find two new *perm* employees setting up in their work areas .

Doesn't sound good to me Elsewhere.

Rejection hurts, regardless of whether it was intentional by them or not, and I am sorry that you are experiencing it. Sometimes there are not good answers for why companies make the moves they make. Although it is difficult not to do, try not to beat yourself up for the rejection, it can make you crazy and will leave you second guessing yourself.
