Black Veil Lowers again?
by H. inhello i am new and this will probably be the last time i post.
nice forum by the way but honestly and with all due respect it is not something i would like to be associated with.
i joined saying "oh cool a jw forum" but after reading just 2 posts i realized it is the black veil all over again.

Some of the topics were just pointless, instead of focusing on how being a Jehovah's Witness greatly seperates you from everyone else, I read just a lot of attacks and attempts to find faults in the organization.
H.,
With all due respect, we constantly are "focusing on how being a Jehovah's Witness greatly seperates you from everyone else". Maybe not the way you think that it seperates JW's, but it certainly brings us an immense amount of entertainment.
I spent more years in the "Truth" than you have been alive. I was a very faithful JW and a ministerial servant who truly wanted to help the brothers and sisters. At your age (22) I felt the same way you do and I probably would have said the same things that you did in your opening post (well, then again, I wouldn't have because I would have never posted on an apostate site...). I will only say that you owe it to yourself to examine more than just WTS literature. Educate yourself. Don't just read things that "tickle your ears" and make you feel safe and sound. After all...if the "Truth" is the truth, then it will stand on it's own (the Beoreans felt that way about Christianity). Stick around, you might learn something, unless you think that your faith is not strong enough.
The mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Let us welcome good news -- Democrats are you listening?
Stillajwexelder,
I am an Independent that leans to the left a bit (not on economics though), but I am a critic of Bush, does that qualify me? lol. I do hope that it is a trend. I was "downsized", "optimized", or whatever you want to call it (I call it layed off) during the telecom meltdown in 2002 and have not been able to get back into my chosen profession. If the trend continues, I have no problem giving credit where credit is due. So...if Bush's politics open up the job market, then kudos to him. I just haven't seen it yet and I have been looking hard.

If The Bible Is Truly The Word Of God...
by exjdub inwhy would he leave so many loose ends?
believe me, despite some of my comments about religion and my feelings about the bible, i do examine myself and my thinking process all of the time.
i really do think deeply about my life and the lives of my family, and i really try to examine how i feel.

Karly,
First things first: Welcome to the JWD Board. I hope we here more from you. If your first post is the indication of what is to come, then all I can say is...Wow...I agree with Danny Bear that is a damn good synopsis
I have decided to "keep" in my heart the parts of the Bible that inspire me and make me a better person.
I agree with you and I probably should have mentioned that at the outset. I think the bible is a beautiful book and has great value, I just don't believe it to be the Word of God anymore. Proverbs was, and is, one of my favorite books in the bible because of the simple wisdom contained within.
I think you would find the work of Joseph Campbell interesting
Thank you for your recommendation, I will look him up.
Karly, I hope more people read your post because it is very powerful and well written.

You may have trouble keeping track of all of us new ones (and with the amount of people joining the board every week, it looks like it is not going to get any easier...but that's a good problem to have) but we know who you are. It would be difficult, if not impossible to get along without you. Thanks for all of your hard work! Happy Anniversary!

Interesting Ewatchman commentary on abuse
by trumangirl inanyone read ewatchman's latest commentary condemning the "shepherds"?
he makes an interesting application of the law in ot about a person being bloodguilty if they knew their bull was dangerous yet didn't warn the neighbours or restrain it.
he compares this to a recent legal case where the wt lawyers said that the elders are not responsible for protecting "congregants".

I haven't read it trumangirl, but it seems to me that it certainly has application, the problem is, the Society loves loopholes and they would mention that the Mosaic Law was "nailed to the torture stake" and does not have legal application anymore. They only use the Law in the OT when they want to make a point.

Valis,
I went fly fishing for the first time 2 years ago in Montana during the salmon fly hatch...Unbelievable. I had so much fun. That is about the only thing that I don't like about living in Florida...No streams to fly fish. You can saltwater fly fish and you can flyfish the lakes, but it ain't nuthin' like fishing a stream. Have a great time!
By the way, flyfishing is a religion I could join. It doesn't get any better than wading or floating a stream, watching the graceful arc of the fly line...fly landing on the water..fish rising to take the fly...gives me goosebumps.

Dub spotting
by FreeWilly inever since i 'de-troofed' myself i've taken quite a bit of pleasure in spotting jw's when i'm out and about.
i'm getting pretty good at it too.
i'm on my way home from work when i notice this white van turn in front of me.

You are nuts...but so are the rest of us! Nobody will ever completely understand unless they have been absorbed by the dubs (or had loved ones absorbed) and then been able to escape.
stop-chewing-and-pray-cuz-you've-been-busted bit.
Nothing like dub watching...That obviously was the "spiritually weak" one because he/she didn't want to humiliate themselves publicly, but the pressure to conform was too great. Resistance is futile.
