I don't understand what do they stand to gain by putting the word other in the way eg "through him all things were created" or "through him all other things were created". He obviously didn't create himself.

Active JWsA Birthday Was Used to Preserve the Lineage of Jesus
by AuldSoul injoseph was imprisoned because of false accusations made by potiphar's wife.
he had at least two cell mates, a cupbearer and a bakerwe do not know the charges against either prisoner.. joseph's cell mates had dreams.
by god's power, he interpreted the dreams, including which day the dream prophecies would be fulfilled.

Interesting angle for looking at birthdays though in my view the only reason the WTS puts in place such silly restrictions is for creating a mental separation and isolation from the rest of human society.

One of those days
by Younglove1999 inyou know, when the haunting trauma of being out of the organization rears it's ugly head- .
my husband and i have been out for almost 9 months now and i still struggle with so many emotions.
some days/weeks i'm fine and other times i just have so much bottled up, i feel like exploding.

It's hard to get over the JW past because it was such a rip off one had to put so much into it and in the end got nothing worthwhile out of it, and may even have got disgraced and banished by the JW community despite all that was invested in it in good faith. It is certainly a very poor return at best and a total loss at worst an invertment only the unaware would consider making.
But still there is plenty of time ahead to catch up with what was not enjoyed due to the restrictions. -

I WOULD NEVER HAVE BELIEVED IT!
by Dansk in'gay bomb' scoops ig nobel award a study on how to relieve jetlag in hamsters won one of the prizespioneering research into a "gay bomb" that makes enemy troops "sexually irresistible" to each other has scooped one of this year's ig nobel prizes.. other winners included work on treating hamster jetlag with impotency drugs, extracting vanilla from cow dung, and the side-effects of sword swallowing.
the awards, founded in 1991, mark achievements that "first make people laugh, and then make them think".
the prize ceremony took place at harvard university, us.

The one I found really creepy is the extraction of vanila fragrance from cow dung. Why would anyone want to do that when there is so much vanila and the cheap vanillin (vanilla flavour imitation) in the world?
I suppose it's just an intellectual challenge. -

What would you say to this........

he had cystic fibrosis and in september caught an infection resulting in him spending pretty much the rest of his time in ic during which he suffered 2 heart attacks and was on life support and for the final few weeks has not been conscious due to medication.
sadly he lost his battle yesterday.. he was a little chap who i knew and was friends with my son from first day at primary school.

Sorry to hear about the death of your friend's child, unfortunately cystic fibrosis is one of the more common genetic diseases among European people.

True exercise is also a necessity for good health but today everyone almost is so lazy and even see physical exercise as something demeaning. That's one reason there are so many degenerative diseases in the western world that hardly exist in more primitive cultures. Heart disease, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis etc

Acts 15 v 1Corinthians 8: Did Paul Disagree With The Governing Body?
by Justitia Themis ini read an interesting statement in "the new testament in its social environment," by stambaugh and balch.
it referenced acts 15 and 1 corinthians as evidence that paul later disagreed with the jerusalem ruling and overturned it..on his own...without 'consulting' any group.
i found the following qfr on the cd-rom.

There was no such thing as a governing body in the early church, taht is a silly myth produced by the GB members in order to validate their absolutist tendencies in their org. Note the Apostles in Jerusalem inquired with the local church about the matter something the FDS never does.
And yes Paul did contradict that decision he was after all totally against the Mosaic law which was rigidly followed by Peter, James etc -

Flipper what you said about fish especially oily fish is correct but that must be set against the fact that often fish have high levels of mercury, it depends where they got caught.
Eat a balanced diet that includes plenty of animal fat as long as there are also plenty of veg, fruit and legumes in the diet. Cholesterol is not the problem as many self serving deceivers have been claiming for decades now. Trans fats are the real problem as well as eating too much processed food. Avoid these and eat a little of everything else. -

When will you start giving the good example to the flock on the issue of charity? Everyone talks about how mean and cheap you are when it comes to doing your christian duty (but are you christian at all?) of helping the needy but loyal dubs.

Another money saving idea
by mrsjones5 ina while ago someone here asked about money saving ideas for food.
i told him about the share food program which i used in california but was unable to find the program here in indiana.
i recently found it here but the host location was too far to make it economically feasible.

A good way to save money is by checking up the special offers of the local supermarkets in the brochures that they put in letter boxes or on their internet sites. Often there are some really good offers eg two chickens or two packets of frozen peas for the price of one. If these come up often it might be worth investing in a home freezer and buying in large quantities.
