You seem to have done really well to kick the habit you have manifested quite some will power to get over it. When you feel strong enough to drink in moderation without the risk of going beyond it there is no reason why you shouldn't do it. If you've reached that point fine otherwise give it a little more time to solidly stabilise your control.

Issues with the AA and alcoholism, could do with some advice.
by digderidoo inas many of you are aware i started to attend aa meetings at the beginning of january, to finally confront my alcoholism.. since then i went the first 7 weeks without a drink, but then went away for a lads weekend and ended up getting drunk over a 3 day break.
i learnt from this that i could not control my drinking, so upon coming back i stopped drinking again.. this then led to another 7 weeks without a drink.
but last saturday was my birthday so i went out on the friday night and drank again, however this time i didn't get drunk, but controlled it, this also led to me having two glasses of wine on sunday, and i can honestly say that i didn't feel the crave for any more.. now as for attending aa meetings, they have really helped, i feel alot happier within myself since and have done many active things that i wouldn't have dreamt of doing this time last year.

What if they are about to "close the ark door"?
by Mickey mouse inwe know the book study is about to be cut.
i am reading talk here of the preaching work being declared "over" and possible changes in disfellowshipping policy.. we know the wbts is running low on funds.
they don't make money from the literature and the new recruits are going straight back out of the revolving door.

The unfortunate dubs in this ark will soon find out that it will quickly fall apart and sink in a flood should it ever happen whether real or symbolic. The ark is just a way to bring people in and exploit them it's all part of their mind control techniques operated under the guise of religion.

Lately, The SIGHT of JWs Gets Me Irritated!!!!!
by minimus inanyone care to psychoanalyze me??
?

Hey Minimus why be so concerned with the JWs? They are just a passing phase the same as with all other cultic organisations eventually people will tire of them and they will fall apart. The internet makes it possible for cult members to find out who their leaders really are, that all they can offer is problems and not a single solution to life's problems.
The R&F JWs are mostly deceived victims cunningly taken down a dead end road. -

Three months of Hard Core training.
by LouBelle inwe had a compitition running in one of our local newspapers offering 2 people a 3 month programe of serious fitness training.
i'm the type that will occassionally go to the gym, take a stroll, but i entered because i would really really love to get fit and get into the healthy lifestyle (not that i'm unhealthy).
i got a call today to say i'm in the top 8 - i'm so excited.

That's precisely what people need nowadays instead of the lazy and sedentary lifestyle which is very unhealthy. I do sports over the last two years and feel very fit and healthy.

My intruction on JWD. Hi!
by easyreader1970 ini posted this in my profile but since i've never formally introduced myself, i thought i would print it here as well as my official "hello" message.
i am currently an active jw.
i don't want to be but the situation i am in doesn't allow me to do anything differently.

Your case is typical and sums up nicely the dynamics of this situation when a JW wants to leave and becomes inactive while having a family in the cult. The point is that they want to be able to maintain control and authority and to do that they need to have the means to punish. Social marginalisation and the destruction of one's family are ways to achieve that.
What can one say, stay in as an inactive JW and do them as much harm as you can on the internet. -

Mac or PC?
by wings inso i have a decent computer.
hp, nice sony monitor.
when my dad passed i inherited a new mac.

Macs are not liable to viruses and don't have security issues like PCs running on windows do since hackers simply can't get to them because they are securely designed. But there may be some limitations when it comes to the software and hardware they can use.

Personal observations Re: former religious members
by Zico init seems to me that many (not all) agnostics/atheists on here, as former jws, seem to grow quite an adversity to religion as a whole, seeing any kind of religion as harmful, and when they make such critism, those on the board who have maintained religious beliefs often point out to them that they need to distinguish between the effects a mainstream religion, and a high control religion has on someone's development.
i've generally found that people who had religious parents, but were raised in 'mainstream' or moderate religions but stopped attending don't hold any grudges or ill thought about the religion they were raised in as children, whereas those i know who were raised in the jehovah's witnesses and left, are usually quite anti-watchtower (myself included!
i thought about this, after a general discussion at work today, when a girl in my office, in her late 20s, and who was recently married made a comment that i found surprising.

Some may not be openly anti watchtower because they are still under the spell of the old org they may fear that jehovah or are not 100% sure that the old org is wrong.
Alternatively they may just want to get on with their lives and completely forget religion. -

What will you do when the Great Tribulation Begins?
by Malkiel ini've always wanted to ask this question to those that have decided to leave the organization.. what will you do when the great tribulation begins?.
right now folks, a lot is happening in the political world.. gordon brown (prime miniter of england) last week gave a speech to the un stating that it is time for the un to step in and solve the world's problems, (specifically mentioning the economy and hunger crisis worldwide.).
barrack obama is shaping up to be the next president, a fellow who sure knows how to persuade and lead great crowds.

You are just too influenced by the JWs so you continue to have this idea that the end is imminent. For all we know the end is not imminent and if it were the JWs would be the wrong people to run to. This whole issue just revolves around the psychology of fear and insecurity, inner illusions and not on any real outside factors. Nothing new under the sun.

Cutting of BS following WT plan: No more personal study or research!
by WingCommander insince it seems the cats out of the bag on the book study being eliminated from small groups at homes, i feel it ok to discuss the "why" of the society's actions on this manner.
many seem to be confused as to why the wt would eliminate another evening of busywork.
some see it as a loosening of the riens on the wt's part to let the congregation breathe.....i see it as the complete opposite....i see it as another control tactic, one that has been in the works for a while.

"I have never held the belief that the WTBS was evil or corrupt."
That is precisely what they are, evil and corrupt their bahaviour can't be explained otherwise. Thousands of families destroyed by their policies, they claim a unique appointment by God as his only reps on earth a blindingly obvious lie, they run that org like totalitarian dictators and even claim that's how the apostles run the early church, they incite JW kids not to study at university even after they gave up the false idea that the end is definitely near. Not to mention the numerous other crude doctrinal errors they teach particularly the two class system for christians (as if they are christian, I don't believe that for a moment)
Surely there is more to it than being simply misguided is a lot of design involved in their agenda. -

At last the Watchtower Study that Changes "This Generation"
by TooBad TooSad insince i was 16 years old, the one belief that always kept me going because it set a limit on how long.
the present system would last before god started armageddon and then usher in of a 1,000 years of .
peace was the "generation teaching".

The JW cattle should not be happy because they came to a dead end after decades of misleading information, misdirection and sacrifices they had to make that finally proved pointless. There is no end in sight.
It's not so much a case of increasing light (how innocent and even constructive that sounds) as it is one of never ending manipulation, deception and exploitation.
