A person choosing to be a Christian is not at issue. The people who get together and study the Bible and follow it' so called moral code are not the problem. All 8 million of the rank and file witness could continue to do that. It's the corporate machine, the Watchtower with its various corporate entities that are objectionable. Remove that! Let the people read the Bible and reason on it with their own adult minds and not just sit and be told what to believe without question. If in doing that some decide that they don't believe in the Bible so be it. That doesn't mean that they automatically become 'fornicators' or 'adulterers' or abortion proponents or politically active, and on and on with the things you listed. Husbands and wives and whole families have left the jW religion and have gone on with their lives....living good moral lives even without the Bible. We don't care whether they come to this site or any other. We do care that millions of people are systematically being told to just 'listen and obey' a group of men who are at the core part of a religious corporation that is trying to maintain its wealth at their (the rank and file witnesses) expense. Get rid of the corporation(s) and if you want, get back to examining the scriptures individually and researching ALL things, not just JW publications. -

Estimation for people who have lived since Adam
by James Mixon in69-110 billion, 90% of the people who've ever lived are dead.
that's a lot of folks to be resurrected.
take away we who are apostates (a million or two) that still leave 67-110 billion.. raining down manna from heaven will not cut the mustard for 100 billion people, there is not much you can do with manna, manna bread, manna tacos, manna soup and manna sweet cakes.. there is not enough resources to to house and feed 100 billion people, 7-8 billion today.. i'am not a economist or mathematician but the resurrection will create a whole set of new problems for mankind.. it becomes a bigger problem when you figure in those folks the lived before adam that the bible forgot to mention..

Which 'Adam' are we talking about...or 'Eve'?
the numbers would be lower by far if you are only counting from 4,000 (+a few) years ago. But if you are counting from 'Eve out of Africa' then 108,000,000 doesn't sound too high.

ancient ruins
by crazyguy1 inthey have discovered a temple complex in turkey they call gobekli tepi and another in southern iran they tentatively call arata.
both of these sites were discovered in the last decade or two and are being dated to older then 12000 years ago.
can anyone explain how they go about dating these site since carbon 14 dating doesnt work on stone and theres no patina or very little since these places were buried?

Gobekli Tepe is one of my favorite ancient sites to read about. Thank you HalfBanana for the info on the various ways dating is accomplished. JW's are quick to jump on just one method of dating, carbon 14 but they don't consider for a moment when various forms of dating all come up with the same conclusion about dates. I am quite jealous (in a good way) that you have had 'boots on the ground' investigating ancient sites! And really...Neanderthal tools on your desk!! Get outta here! That's great.

Ok, I think this is what I was thinking of as being more recent, a Study edition Watchtower from 2011. Sorry for the cut and paste, I took the quote from another site. I really hate clicking on the official site!
Nov 15, 2011 WT - "The prophet Elisha sent one of the sons of the prophets to anoint Jehu as king and to intruct him to kill every male of the apostate house of Ahab.—2 Ki. 8:28; 9:1-10." "Though the thought of violence is unpleasant, we should realize that in those days, Jehovah used his servants to carry out his judgments.... Today, no servant of Jehovah uses physical force against opponents of pure worship. “Vengeance is mine,” God says. (Heb.10:30) But to rid the congregation of potentially corrupting influences, Christian elders may have to act with courage similar to that of Jehu. (1 Cor. 5:9-13) And all members of the congregation need to be determined to avoid the company of disfellowshipped individuals.— 2 John 9-11." "Jehu announced that he intended to hold “a great sacrifice” for Baal. (2 Ki. 10:18, 19) “This is a clever play on words on the part of Jehu,” says one scholar. While the term employed here “generally means ‘sacrifice,’ it is also used of the ‘slaughter’ of apostates.” "It is true that Jehu spilled much blood. Yet, the Scriptures present him as a courageous man.

JW's don't kill outright today but that comparrison to how apostates should be viewed was given just a few years ago again. Maybe somebody here has the quote...
I do agree that the mindset is much the same. The absoluteness of their cutting off family members viewed as apostate is because they already consider them as dead and slain by Jehovah. It's a mindset that leads to depression and mental imbalance and for some JW's that see no other way, they do kill.
The Paris tragedy is at the far end of the spectrum but completely cutting off apostate family members is at the other end of the same spectrum IMO.

Islam is a religion of Peace
by Coded Logic inwarning: poes law may apply.
i just wanted to take a moment and remind everyone that all muslims are good people.
"real" muslims would never kill in the name of their religion .

Just my two cents worth, but the core problem with the jihadist mentality is rooted in a belief system that is dying along with fundementalist Bible based belirf systems...they are part of an old religious thought form and they are fighting like wild animals to stay alive all the while being penned in by evolving spiritual ideals and social structures that label them as barbaric.
And they are IMO.
But they will keep breaking out and killing and hurting people until they finally die.
Personally I look at these things as acts perpetrated by very unevolved people but time will tell...survival of the fittest anyone? I certainly hope that love and compassion prove to be stronger in the final outcome. Sometimes it feels like common sense and goodwill are losing the battle but although a few persons who commit heinous acts make the news there are many acts of kindness and compassion happening that don't make the news.
Yes, survival of the fittest!

NEW LIGHT ALERT! TARGET 2015 END TIMES! EVE WAS CREATED 40 YEARS AFTER ADAM! THE END IS NEAR!
by Trailer Park Pioneer inthis is going around the kingdom halls now, i thought it was a hoax but are not all the end time dates produced by the organization some hoax or con?
the reason why the end did not come in 1975 was the watchtower society had not put eve's creation in their equation.
i was told when we had a "meet and greet" if "we knew the date of eve's creation we would know the year jehovah was going to destroy the earth.. it's been 40 years since 1975, can you believe it's been 40 years since "stay alive till 1975!"?

Memories. .. share the earliest or most favorite childhood memory
by MissFit inmy daughter tells me that experts say children tend to have false memories.
apparently their brain tends to fill things in that may not be totally accurate.. i refuse to believe that my favorite and comforting memory might not be true.
so here is to fond memories real or not.. the earliest memory i have is being put in a crib at a preschool.

My earliest memory was of being in a crib with another child who'd somehow gotten a very full diaper off and was 'fingerpainting' with the stuff all over the crib and walls (I know...too gross!). I related this memory tomy mom as an adult and she was surprized I'd remembered it because I was only 3. I think I was slightly traumatized 😳
later, my best memories were when we went out to 'the ranch' to spend a day with my mom's "worldly" family; grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles. My JW dad was never around for that except to pick us all up in the evening to go back home. He really hated it when my grandfather picked us all up (my mom didn't drive). They were all such evil worldly people.
There were other good memories but not one involved meetings or assemblies. They were usually when we missed a meeting and did something fun.

Toddler accidentally shoots woman dead in Idaho Walmart
by nicolaou ina woman has been shot dead by a 2-year-old in a wal-mart store in idaho.. .
the 29-year-old was shopping with four children in the store in hayden, when the two-year-old reached into her handbag and fired the weapon, shooting her dead.. initial reports suggested the woman was the boy's mother, but the police have said that this is as yet unclear how they are related.. source; http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/toddler-accidentally-shoots-woman-in-idaho-walmart-9950847.html.
i've nothing to add to my past comments on americas psychotic relationship with guns.

I felt awful for this family when I first read the news. I had four little ones by the time I was 29 so know full well how crazy and distracting shopping with them can be (which is why I generally didn't). I guess my biggest question is why the safety was off. Did the toddler watch her handling the gun and figure out how to undo the safety? I just can't imagine that she failed to set the safety with her training and having all those kids with her. Also...I keep my purse on me at all times and I don't carry a gun. She must have been pretty frazzled is my guess and what a price to pay. RIP young mom. -
