I agree with Changeling that it was probably a funeral or memorial service. This happened recently at one of the local KHs. A few months ago an elderly sister who had been active in the JW work for over 60 years passed away and her memorial service attendance was almost 400 people. KH weddings used to be done on Saturdays, do they have them on Sundays now?

I have a theory. Please take my poll!
by changeling ini'd like you all to tell me 2 or 3 things:.
1- were you raised a witness or not?.
2-if you were, was your family very "theocratic" or not so much?.

Four years late. Just watched Passions of the Christ. I have a question
by shopaholic inas you know this movie was banned for jws.
any faithful witness would not watched a non-jw bible movie (even though they do it all the time but that's a different subject.
) i watched it this pass week over a couple of days.

I saw the film in the theatre when it first came out in 04. My girlfriend was an Evangelical Christian and she got very emotional during the film. Some of the scenes were difficult to watch, but it was still an excellent film.
Since I've been out of the Watchtower since 1984, I don't know if the local congregations have a banned film list. However, back then there was a congregation in my area where the elders did forbid their congregation members to attend R rated movies. But I would think it's still a local option.

I am Episcopalian (Anglican). Some commedians have referred to our church as "Catholic Lite." Does that count?

You have been given a lot of advice by the many posters here, but you will have to make the final decision. Its not an easy decision to make. I know, because 20 years ago I was in a similar situation.
I had served as an elder for almost 10 years before I learned the truth about the "truth" by reading Crisis of Conscience. I didn't resign right away because I thought I could do some good as a "double agent." I even had an "apostate" friend who I kept informed about the local BOE and the latest info from Brooklyn. I had to be careful about our clandestine meetings, making sure I wasn't followed.
During this time I served on several JCs and was able to influence the other members of the committee to be more compassionate toward those who appeared before us. As a result we didn't Df anyone but gave private reproof.
There were also a couple of cases of suspected "apostasy" in the congregation and I was selected to lead the investigation. Here I was able to manipulate the evidence and discredit the witnesses who brought the charges so the investigation led nowhere. Unfortunately there was a sister in the congregation who had become vocal in her criticism of the "Organization." But guess who was on the committee that tried her case? The other members put me in charge of the investigation, and of course I gave her a clean bill of health and no action was taken against her at the time. However, a year after I left another JC was formed and the poor sister was Dfd.
After about 9 months I decided to resign and get on with my life. My "apostate handler" asked me stay on, saying I could do more good on the inside. But I felt that I had done enough and it was time to fade away from the totalitarian Watchtower society and escape to the free world.

In the past I've had good and bad bosses of both sexes. So for me gender doesn't really matter. What does is competance and personality.

Bible Study Arrangement at Hall
by KW13 inremember how the bible study was conducted at the hall?
they had bible highlights then focused on a particular chapter.
was this done in such a way so as to take attention away from scriptures that could bring up red-flags in the minds of jw's, letting the dodgy bits be skipped over?.

I totally agree with you Reneesorym. Bible study in church is so much more enlightening than at the Kingdom Hall.
Moreover, they could never have a verse by verse Bible study at the Kingdom Hall like they do in the churches because such a study would show that the Watchtower takes the Scriptures out of context. That is why during the KH meetings the JWs are always flipping through their Bibles rather than focusing on a Bible book and studying one chapter at a time until the book is completed. Something that would take months if done properly.
The priest who conducts the Bible study at my church is fluent in New Testament Greek, which is something you would never see at the Kingdom Hall.
