just wanted to find out how the x-jw community views eating food containing blood.
have any of you eaten foods like black pudding since leaving the jw's?
are you still apprehensive about eating products with blood?
Everytime I visit Clonakilty, Ireland I enjoy a traditional Irish breakfast which includes Clonakilty black pudding. I don't think that black pudding contains as much blood as liver. But if we were supposed to be Kosher, the New Testament would have been written like the Torah and would have clearly spelled out dietary restrictions for Christians.

Regarding "OAHSPE--A NEW BIBLE IN THE WORDS OF JEHOVIH AND HIS ANGEL EMBASSADORS, A SACRED HISTORY OF THE DOMINIONS OF THE HIGHER AND LOWER HEAVENS ON THE EARTH FOR THE PAST TWENTY-FOUR THOUSAND YEARS. Its a long title and I spelled it out just as it is on the title page. The book was originally published in 1882 by John Ballou. The book is 991 pages. My copy is a reprint by the Oahspe Publishing Association of New York and London. It doesn't give a date for the republishing. You should be able to find the book at any New Age or Occultic Bookshop. You could also check second-hand book stores. Look in the occult section.

Enjoyed your post and the many comments. Though I am a Jeffersonian Democrat, I agree with much of what Amazing said, especially his comment that the Liberal Democrats are like the JWs. You might find it interesting that "Judge" Rutherford, the real founder of the JWs, was a Liberal Democratic activist at the turn of the last century. The Watch Tower even admits to his political past in the May 27, 1942 CONSOLATION (now AWAKE), page 4. See also the May 6, 1892 BOONVILLE WEEKLY ADVERTISER, page 4.
The serious flaw of modern liberalism is the centralization of power. Rutherford applied this political philosophy to Russell's Bible Student movement by grabing control of the local congregations and forcing them to submit to the central government in Brooklyn. The local democratically elected were purged, and replaced with Rutherford men who would follow the commands of the dictator. This was all done, so Rutherford said, for the benefit of the rank and file. Eventually choice was eliminated and everyone had to toe the party line. Dictators cannot exist without the centralization of power. I strongly agree with Thomas Jefferson, that government which rules least is the most effective.

no doubt one of the most ask questions ever.
no matter what age you are (in my case fairly young), you've seen gilligan's island, and heard the inevitable argument (especially amoung men), who do you prefer better: ginger or mary anne.. well, i decided to bring the debate here to jw.com, see if there's an (ex) jw consensus on the issue.. my personal favourite is mary anne, by the way.
they were both very attractive, but mary anne's personalty was more down to earth (or naive) to me, and i find that more desirable.

i've been under the opinion that we jehovah's witnesses are famous for preaching this good news of the kingdom.
after all, matthew 24:14 is our scripture and every cover of the watchtower says 'announcing jehovah's kingdom'.. i decided to take a survey to prove this point.

Great post Outaservice. I remember the negative comments I received when I was associated with the JWs. Nobody ever said that the JWs were known for preaching the "good news of the Kingdom." They just complained about being woke up on a weekend morning.
Regarding Michael Jackson, back in the 1980s a news magazine referred to him as the "most famous Jehovah's Witness of all time." I don't think that this went over to well with the Kingdom Governing Body even though Jackson probably donated millions to their coffers.

i currently use the new world translation of the holy scriptures, and it seems to be a pretty good bible.
but i am looking for a good, modern-english version with which to do some comparison reading.
plus, i am looking for a good bible commentary for research.
The New Revised Standard Version and the Revised English Bible are both ecumenical and excellent translations. The New Jerusalem Bible is another good translation. The Anchor Bible, which is a translation and commentary, is another ecumenical Bible. I found it very helpful. Unfortunately when completed it will be over 50 volumes, not the kind of Bible you can easily carry to church or Bible study.
