Whose been ripped off financially by his JW brother?

i posted this in another thread but it is more relevant here.

i worked for jw doing back breaking work for a while only to be told by another jw that he was ripping me of - he was paying me half the going rate.

i was only 17 and naive didn't know anything about the world of work.

Welcome to JW justice. You must have 2 witnesses to 'convict' a pedophile, but she can lie and take you for 1/2 with some bogus evidence. Although, there's no way someone would lock me out of MY house....lol.

What did she use in court to prove it? Or did she have to? Some states automatically award 1/2, regardless of the reason.

Stay away from the 'loving Christian congregation' () and find some REAL friends.....

Oprah, James Frey and the call for TRUTH

i don't know if you have been following the story about james frey, author of a million little pieces, how the book was inducted into oprah's book club last fall, with him making an appearance on the show, proclaiming the "memoir" as completely true and unaltered.

she even delayed announcing her next book club selection by six weeks to give this book more publicity.. some investigation by the smoking gun revealed that many of the accounts in the book were embellished beyond any recognition of truth.

for example, the incident where frey claims to have been in jail for 3 months, was actually only a matter of hours.

While not a huge Oprah fan, I have an immense amount of newfound respect for her. I respect that she attempted to defend him initially, but when the evidence became overwhelming, she faced the music with dignity and honesty.

This is something that the Society and most JW's will not do. The Society will not own up to their mistakes, and the average JW, even when confronted with overwhelming evidence, continue to defend something they don't understand.

James Frey is like the Society. I read the other day that he said he embellished a 'little' to present a positive message. An "end justifies the means" argument. The Society, likewise, 'embellishes' to achieve an end (salvation for it's members - cash in it's pockets) while justifying the means (dishonesty about past and current misdeeds.)

In reality, he wanted to write a book that would sell, so he lied. In reality, the Society wants to retain power and $$, so they lie.

Switch "Knowledge" to "Bible Teach" - Why?

can anyone tell me (or link me up if this has already been asked) why the january kingdom ministry instructs publishers to gradually wean studies of the "knowledge" book and to start with this new release "what does the bible teach"?.

what are they trying to hide?.

it didn't seem like there was much to be embarrassed about in the knowledge book.. inq

I think the Bible Stories book has more information than any of the newer pubs....

"it keeps watch on world events as these fulfill bible prophecy".

when was the last time you read an article that discussed current world events and how they are related to bible prophecy?

Should be rewritten to "God's Kingdom will soon destroy ALL who are not JW's, or who claim to be JW's but don't get enough time in field service, or attend enough meetings, or rat out their fellow believers."

This is the utmost in dishonesty. Most people would read it and say "Well, I'm safe. I go to church, believe in God, and don't oppress my fellowman." But we all know that's NOT what JW's really believe.....

JW's upset grandfather left house to Df'd family member

hi guys.

my brother told me that his friends grandfather died and that the jw family members are upset that he left his house to his grandson who is df'd.

for the last few years the grandson took him to all his doctor appointments and took him grocery shopping.

No help from the JW brotherhood?

during your time as jws were there times that you were in need for some help from the jw brotherhood but felt let down because no one cared to help you?

did you feel resentful and began to suspect that this org is heartless and hypocritical?

Sad story, but unfortuantely all too common. You realize now that they have conditional 'love', and most of the time not even that.

They didn't care about me. They didn't care about my child.

Single mothers are the pariah of the congregation. You don't get invited into the 'cliques' because you don't have a mate. You can't help with the congregation duties (cuz you're a woman) and usually can't contribute much financially, so you're basically expendable.

I about want to when I think about all the lies we were told concerning the 'love' in the congregation.....

In love with a JW, HELP!!!

14 years ago i was a sophomore in high school and fell head over heels for a senior (we'll call him mike) who wasn't really in to me.

i was raised catholic and he, a jw.

i wrote him lots of notes, sent him teddy bears and tried to win his heart.

Are you sure you're still in love with who he is now, or the memory of something that made you feel good when you were a teenager? Maybe before you talk about divorcing your spouses, etc, you should make sure. Are you sure you're in love, or just suffering from years of an 'ideal' that you couldn't have?

Whatever you decide, do NOT become a JW - you have NO idea what you're in for. The congregation will NOT accept you if you wreck their 'happy' home.

Wifey and I like 'American Idol' when it gets down to the last 10 or so. I don't know where they are in the mix - didn't see it - but I hate the early stuff where all the people come on that think they can sing and sound like sick geese in a clamp!

See, that's the ONLY part I like. And I'm ashamed to admit that I even watch that much of it. Reality TV is a waste of airtime and brain space. I think Simon's hilarious - how can you not laugh at someone who takes himself so seriously.

Why is society so obsessed with doctors and pills?

i went to the doctor last fall to have my cholesterol tested and it was high.

rather then telling me to diet, exercise and other natural advice.

i was handed a prescription for something to lower my cholesterol, and sent on my way.

It is very likely that doctors receive commissions for putting people on cholesterol lowering drugs (statins) that's why they are trying to push them, but as already mentioned these drugs are quite toxic to the body. Not to mention that the cholesterol-heart disease link was never really proven. Statins are by far the most profitable products for the pharmaceutical companies.

I was a drug rep for four years with AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals - they market the statin "Crestor". Statins are profitable, but not the most profitable. AZ had, for a time, the best selling drug in the world in Prilosec. And there are oncology drugs and some antibiotics that are enormously profitable.

The pharma business is a dirty one, as the recent Vioxx scandal has proven. The FDA is a joke. However, I've never known of a physician to receive a 'commission' for a product. A lot of times it boils down to what rep they like, what 'the specialists' are prescribing, and which company brings them the best lunches and takes them to play golf. Statins work - that's a fact. But they can lead to, in a low percentage of patients, other problems, especially liver problems.

It is generally accepted medical principle that the cholesterol-heart disease link is solid. There are a number of other risk factors for heart disease, but most physicians acknowledge that it is a solid theory. I'd be interested in seeing research that shows otherwise...
