  What's The Difference Between A "Worldy Person" & JW???

  jws tell their flock that they are superior to "worldly ones".

  that they're better.

  Oh, I dunno. How 'bout referring to that little black book (or green one if you're old enough) called the Bible. Show them Jesus' discussion of the Pharisees praying on the street corner and how he dismisses those that think too highly of himself. Or "He who is standing should be wary he does not fall".

  When you ask why the are superior, they will say it's because they are the most well-educated Bible students on earth. Review with them the scriptures on pride, humility, outward displays of self-righteousness. They probably won't make the connection, but at least you tried.

  The real difference between 'worldly' and JW.....worldly people have the ability to think independently, JW's have the ability to be dependent on an organization to run their lives.

  would that change the way you post?.

  what if you knew for a fact they knew who you were and they were tracking you, would it change the way you post now?.

  Hmmmm....

  She went back to our other sister whose husband is an elder and had him call me to say that I am to have absolutely no contact with them.

  I would have told him that he is NOT my relative and it's none of his business and to go do the biologically impossible. Did you ask him why?

  I know it's pointless to argue w/ the brainwashed, but it's so frustrating.

  To answer your original question, I know members of my family know I'm on here, and it doesn't change the way I post one bit.

  Making progress

  so here is an update from a previous thread i posted about my parents, especially my mother.

  last night, my husband and i were eating dinner at my parents house and all of sudden my mom whips out her bible and tells us to sit down because she wants to share some scriptures shes been researching.

  come to find out about a month ago some elders stopped over at their house to talk to them about us, and how to deal with a disfellowshiped person.

  Time, opportunity, and heart condition. What we all learned about those who could be 'converts' to JW-ism applies to getting them out. She is definitely on the right track. You now have to tread lightly so as not to push too hard, but keep up a small steady trickle of information to her.

  Around a quarter of a million Baptised - pity they don't publish the average age of these - along with the average age of the 8524 Memorial partakers.

  Just for the fun of it... Take the 6,000,000 JW's. Say that each family has 2 children. (this is very simple - I'm just trying to prove a point). That's 1.5 million families worldwide. All it would take is 1 child from every 6th family being baptized to account for the quarter of a million figure. That's definitely feasible. I wonder how close that is to reality in the U.S. Even though the growth % is '0' in the U.S., I guess there were enough baptized to account for the likes of us...lol. How many of those baptized, I wonder, are children of JW's....

  The 1.3% increase is blowing my mind! These are some of the lowest numbers the organization has had in decades.

  And even this small growth is done by artificially inflating the #'s. Now that you can be a publisher w/ as little as 15 minutes in field service. Now that a Bible study can be a 30-min discussion at the door. Even doing all they can do to include these stragglers, they still can't achieve a positive growth in the U.S. What if they were comparing apples to apples for the last 20 years...I imagine there would be a significant decline...

  Nice. Question, though. How is it that when the 12 largest countries (in terms of JW's) are listed, and only 3 of them have positive growth, that the overall growth is +1.3%??? Are we really supposed to believe that enough people came into the organization in the 'little' countries to achieve that much total overall growth?? I guess we really knocked out some baptisms on Samoa this year. Those congregations in Balize are growing like wildfire....

  Please. The Society is so used to publishing figures for the average believing witness that they don't even bother to lie right.

  Oh, and to our mates in the UK....you guys are falling down on the job. Pick it up men and women. You achieved a positive growth rate...this cannot happen again next year.....you'll all be fired as apostates and forced to go back to meetings....<lol>

  i hated service, hated getting up early, hated wearing dresses/skirts,hated bugging people early on the weekend, hated "preparing" for service (all i did was read the little blurb on the inside of the awake lol) hated being grouped with elder ihatecoffeebreaks and sister letsdoonemoredooreventhoughits12.......one day brother ihatecoffeebreaks asked me why my time was dropping in service and i said "because i hate service" ( i mean i was taught to be honest right?

  ok folks, i know there are some creative people on this board so help me out here.

  i'm successfully fading so far, but every now and again i get some well meaning zealot ask me about my missing the 5 weekly brainwashing sessions and the priviledge of hocking crap door to door.

  as sort of a reverse reasoning book, lets see some good conversation stoppers that wont give away my position.

  These are some great replies. I'm still laffing.....

  If you want to go the serious, respectful route (lol) use the chemical sensitivity one. It works great. In nearly every congregation I've been in, there's been SOMEONE who is allergic to the hall....just like I am now...lol. I don't know your situation, but try 'caring for an elderly relative'. Work scheule is a good one, especially if there are other congregations in your area. Of course, if I know JW's, they know half the other cong's around and will call and check up on you.

  Brother Nosy: Noticed you've been missing quite a few meetings.

  You: Well, I've always put the Kingdom first and felt it was inappropriate to attend college. Now I have to work 16 hours a day to make ends meet so it's really hard on the meeting schedule. Is there any type of loving provision by which I can get paid to attend the meetings?

  How Can A Parent Watch Another Parent Torture A Child To Death?

  in nyc, there's a case of a little girl who was regularly beaten and "disciplined" y her stepfather with the mother's knowlege, explaining that here 8 (?

  ) year old daughter was at times "insolent and sneaky".

  eventually, the man tortured her to death.

  In some cases of abuse, only one child is singled out for abuse. Some how the abuser convinces the rest of the family that this person is deserving of the abuse.

  I worked at a Children's Hospital in Fort Worth in the early 1990's, and we had a child who was 13 y/o and weighed just 47 pounds. He was chained to a wall in the family's travel trailer and starved. The mother and father were two grossly obese pigs who would eat Mickey D's in front of this starving child. The younger brother, however, was not abused at all. The parents stated that the younger brother was well-behaved while the older one behaved like an 'animal'. Really? Chain him up and he behaves like an animal?? He died shortly after being admitted and his parents stood trial in Galveston in the mid 90's. They both received lengthy prison sentences. Hopefully they received their 'justice' while inside.....

  Seriously. Why are you guys so upset? I work in a Catholic hospital and these sappy made up emails are passed around and posted every day. It lets people feel good about something they believe in. Most of you on this thread obviously believe in evolution. Obviously some people don't. Getting upset and railing on them for doing something that brings them a little happiness, regardless of how stupid you may think it is, won't change them, their behavior, or the way they look at things. Just like trying to convince most JW's that they are misled. They'll pass around stories about "Jehovah's blessing" on the preaching work, and how college ruins every Witness that goes, etc.

  These little stories about how little Sally or little Jimmy explain the existance of the world with one statement are rediculous sure, but to the people that believe them and find them inspiring, well...we should let them have that....
