This straw man about drugs and sex only in college falls apart when you consider threads from former bethelites about some of their experiences.

My friends experience at elder school
by Grouper ina friend of mind went to elder school recently and i convoy the following for him: .
the co asked him previously if he could assist with a demonstration showing the superiority of wtbts education to university education.
my friend holds a few masters' degrees and will be starting a phd program soon so the co thought he would be an excellent candidate to demonstrate the superiority of wtbts education, but there was a little problem my friend he said no.

Are there any current elders on this board who could....
by mjarka911 ini was jut reading the silent lambs e-mail regarding the august 2005 w/t that subtly reinforces the position that child molestation crimes "may be reported" to authorities.
according to silent lambs, this is in line with a 2002 directive from the service dept to elders that said it is an individual decision, whether parents decide to alert the police or not and no congregation sanctions would be applied either way.
this is a policy that thumbs it's nose at mandatory reporting laws and puts children at risk.

I was jut reading the silent lambs e-mail regarding the August 2005 W/T that subtly reinforces the position that child molestation crimes "may be reported" to authorities. These types of "backdoor" communication that are not available to the rank and file or general public but are the backbone of elder policy decisions need to be brought into the light. Are there any current elders who could copy these letters (past, present and future) and make them public? I know seeing actual letters in Crisis of Conscience from the society to the elder bodies was very eye opening to me and got me started in my path to independent thinking.

I think those of us who leave are special in many ways
by JustTickledPink ini had the opportunity to have lunch with an old jw friend of mine recently.
it was quite surreal.
i have forgotten the absolute depression and control they feel.. whereas i am happily yacking away about the improvements in my life, college, job, etc... happy marriage, going on vacation ... blah blah blah.. she says how she's still married but unhappily but she is waiting on the 'new system' and sorta chatters on about how 'bad' this system is getting, etc.

It's obvious you still feel very strongly about the WT org. This board welcomes all opinions, but since it is an exjw board, aren't you just wasting time better spent for you on study and service?

Did your congregation organise *college* graduation parties?
by truthseeker inmost of the witnesses i know that have graduated high school in the congregation, have had a graduation party organized for them by the congregation.. however, i have yet to see anyone who graduated college get the same treatment.. .
recently, we had two college students graduate in june.
one elder who was asked to attend their graduation party refused the invite.. .

This not giving talks stuff because you don't agree with that paticular doctrine really confuses me. By the time I DA'd myself, it was because the dominoes had come tumbling down. As a JW, you're taught that this is god's only approved org and the decisions from the FDS are spirit driven. After refusing to deny myself the information available about my religious history and learning the failures, it was just natural to walk away. You either are what you say you are or not, there is no in between. How could anyone, especially an elder, continue to devote so much time and look his kids in the eyes and pass the kool aid on to them when he knows the mot basic premise is a lie? I just don't get it.

Awakenings
by prophecor inbeing infected by wtb&ts propaganda, our intire way in which we relate to the world can often be askewed, especially as it pertains to our relationships.
if we are no longer in the truth, but have yet to come to grips with the fact that there is something amiss in watchtower theology, any relative dealings with people outside of the organization can be tainted with the fears and failures, unresolved from having been in the truth.
we see things from a twisted window of perception.

I love being able to encounter new people and sitations as they come without having to view them through a filter of "what I'm supposed to believe".

WT Against Higher Education...Again
by Jeannine inthe october 1, 2005 watchtower slams higher education in a 5 page analysis on why it is better to pioneer than go to college.
i recieved this wt today and i was shocked by the statements in there.
i can fax a copy to anyone who wants it.

These parents are just screwing themselves. Because they expected the nre system to be here before they retired, they are ill prepared for life with little income and health problems. Normally, one might be able to fall back on being taken care of by kids with good careers, but since they discourage college - the kids can barely provide for themselves and their own families. I love the reasoning that my father used when I started a prepaid state tuition program for my newborn son: "Look at so many college educated people who are out of work!" - As if the non-college educated people are swimming with good paying jobs.

I can be a Jehovah's Witness and fight fires at the same time...
by TresHappy inmike davis, firefighter.
bank one forest park (3:05 p.m.): it may be less than a foot square, but mike davis and fellow forest park firefighter julie stanley work the smoldering patch of mulch as if it could turn into a full-fledged fire.
they till soil around the tree and douse it with water until the smoke stops.. it's a non-emergency response for engine 42. with no sirens or flashing lights, it's excruciatingly routine.

Slightly off topic but regarding different rules: After HS I became a full time Pio and did mindless work to be flexible. I even remember an elder telling me it wasn't enough to pioneer full time, I had to be out almost every day to "take the lead" for the cong. So my employment was limited. A friend at the time faded and went to college to be an engineer. Fast forward 6 years and this fellow wants to come back. Is he chastised for leaving for pursuing "wordly goals"? No! He is welcomed with open arms and moved to the elder fast track. And did the "sisters" avoid dating a guy like this who would "leave jehovah" and disobey the org? Of course not. He could be as contrite as he wanted, but he still had his degree and his $70K job and nice car. So glad I followed the rules!

Elders: Do as I tell you, whether I'm right or wrong
by KAYTEE inin the last congregation that i frequented, on two separate occasions, and two different elders, i was told to do what they said, whether they were right or wrong!
this brought some ridicule in answer, from my lips.
the elders said to do otherwise is to go against jehovah.

But remember: When they tell you what to do and you disobey, you are disrespecting Jehovah's Voice; but when you do obey and it turns out to be a mistake - then they are just "imperfect humans". ITS MIND CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

help! what does a jw say to the elders about DOUBTS?
by Cordelia inmy friend has been struggling in the 'truth' for a while, she was never really a model jw and since ive been dfed and her little sister was abused shes wanted to leave but cant seem to find the way to do it.
so she rung me today and told me she is meeting with the elders (two i think) as she has told them she has questions and wants answers.. i think her overall hope is that they dont answer her questions and she finds the strength to leave!
(she says sometimes shed like them to df her but i think thats just coz she wants to go so much!.

My friends and elders used the godd ole circular reasoning: "But you know this is the truth! Our beliefs and doctrines are right because god has revealed them to the FDS. We know the FDS is god channel because they are the only ones teaching these doctrines and beliefs." and of course the topper: But where else could you go? I showed them pictures of transitional fossils when the creation book said none exist. They hit me with the above reasoning. I think it just shows that no one leaves until something happens to them that causes them to shake off the fairy dust and ask real questions!
