U.S. "atheists" frequently assume that the Hebrew God of the Bible is the only God a theist can believe in. How many things that that "run counter to?"
so do U.S. christian fundies.
every exclusive religion denies the existence of other gods. thus any follower of an exclusive religion is a millionfold atheist. atheists only believe in one (or three) god(s) less than most christians.

Of Late Many Here Seem To Be Preaching Aethiesm..
by Qcmbr inwhen i first came here a while back there was plenty of discussion around and about jw topics and general chit chat but of late i've felt quite a sharp increase in posts that are: .
1/ preaching aethism (as opposed to putting it forward in a respectful way as an alternate viewpoint.
2/ vitriolic attacks on those who dare have another view ('damn those stupid heretical believers') .

Did you record your hours in field service correctly?
by free2beme ini always hated the shepherding call where they asked you to try and spend more time in field service, as they saw your hours turned in were low.
at a young age, i learned how easy it was to just write down what ever felt right.
i spent about 30 hours a month in field service as a pioneer for two years and never had anyone say anything to me.
-
googlemagoogle
i did but not in a big style. i wrote 2 hours when i didn't go. or 4 if i only had 2. so it was only to have something on the slip. and i know many others who did/do so.
i know that because one time all of us youngster were back in the hall writing our time-slips and i switched the sheet with another guy and we respectively wrote our numbers. we said, how much should we write this time? two or four? i think we wrote 4.
later i was in that "true christian" stream and i only went in service with my bible (not the NWT). i went to serivce but stopped turning in the time. that's when the elders got nervous... strange. -

Some definitions please...
by SammyDies ini am not a jw, but trying to just understand them as i have a new friend who is a jw.
i apologise up front if i offend anybody through my ignorance.. firstly could someone explain "disfellowshipped".
i read through some sites (particularly those by ex-jw's) who described being disfellowshipped as a horrible experience that is thrust upon them sometimes through no fault of thier own, or vindictiveness of certain eldars and church memebers, or for doing something wrong.
-

disfellowshipping is "kicking out of the church" for many reasons. "gross sin" like an "adulterous lifestyle" or simple things like associating with someone who's already disfellowshipped. or because of questioning the organization's authority - this would be considered apostate.
disassociation is leaving the church "voluntarily". has the same effects though - noone talk to you anymore.
because as a JW you are encouraged if not forced to only associate with other JWs if possible, most JWs have no social life outside the religion. thus disfellowshipping leads to a complete elimination of their social life.
which is the reason people like me simply can't leave. at least not that easily.
as the JWs believe they (and only they) got "the truth", everything else is a lie. especially anything from so called "apostates". -

i have a few such as; "for if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing he is dececiving his own mind.
"also from presumptuous acts hold your servant back; do not let them dominate me.

did paul also not "go beyond the things that [were] written [back then]"? -

hello my name is googlemagoogle and i'm a jay witnoid.
got no college education so far and all my cheques are void.
had a cool party last saturday but the elders were not happy
so i'm grounded to do field service until every housholder's annoyed.
in the congo they say "privilege" to things that noone likes to do.
and they hand those "responsibilities" down to me, cos i'm just another fool.
go to five meetings a week, read the daily text's commentary and the new watchtower.
personal study, door-to-door, think about the end and what the foo...

Why stay married to a JW?
by kid-A inhaving read a recent thread on "mixed" marriages between active jws and non-jw (either faders or df'd) two things stood out for me.
first, there was a profound underlying sadness on the part of the non-jw poster (as there may also be on the active jw mates part) on the reduced intimacy of the relationship, both mentally and physically.
not being in this situation, but understanding what makes a marriage successful, i cant help but ask a rather harsh question....can anybody in this situation realistically envision how such a marriage can last in the long term?.

my wife told me to basically stop talking. i tried, i really did.
same here, buddy.
actually works, i don't talk much about religion with anyone anymore, only within a very small "circle of trust".
every month or two i have to endure a nervous breakdown of my wife though... which is pretty hard, but well. as long as it's only once a month...
luckily i've managed to not go to bookstudy and field service anymore. she neither. that's not a bad compromise. although i'd really love to skip the rest too. but doesn't always work...
