earth-like planet could harbour life .

first off....let me qualify something.
lets keep this to modern day christians in civilized lands.. many on this board are non-believers, and there are quite a number of christians.....so we have a mix.. non believers feel they need to speak out concerning what they have come to understand regarding the bibles authenticity to believers because they feel these ones need to at least see the sceptical side so they can make an honest choice.. believers feel they need to speak out to others concerning what they have come to understand about salvation.
here's the deal..............if believers can live a happy, good, healthy life, and take this to the grave with them..........should a non-believer try to mess all that up.....or leave well enough alone?.
Imaginary people, talking animals, super powers--weird thoughts can be bottled up inside somebody's belief system.
Sooner or later it comes out; one way or another.
When that person has dealings with me and their inanity and wishful thinking impinge on our interaction; then, they are a pain the ass.
Just seems a shame to live in fantasy land. But, to each his own.
if man dies because of inherited sin (as pretty much all bible based religions believe), why do animals die?.
if sin is "falling short of god's will" and sin results in death, how have animals "fallen short" thus deserving death?
if there was a dog messiah, would animals be redeemed as well?
wow! New LIGHT!
one of the most difficult aspects of leaving the jws is finding a new social network to replace the social network you have lost.
finding friends among the jws is not usually a difficult task, but finding them outside the organization can be daunting, especially considering you were told not to develop a social life "in the world.
" discussion boards like this are great...but not enough.
I've never developed a relationship/friendship with an Ex-Jw IN PERSON.
Two things (or one of) seem to happen when somebody emerges from the Tower Womb.
1.The person retains all the JW prejudices and judgemental criteria and begins to "freelance" apart from the org.
2.The person goes hog wild making up for lost time.
In reference to the above; I find almost any religious mindset completely exhausting. Listening to another person in my presence go on about what God is doing for them makes me want to grab an air-sickness bag and top it off.
The naivete' of religious views is now unbearable to witness in adults and completely sad in children.
As for category two above? Wild people and myself are poles apart. I'm sedate. I live inside my head. I plan to develp a bad habit someday that I can put on display; however, in the meantime, I'm just conservative in my actions and views.
With all that said.
I think having a social group is the most difficult thing I've ever tackled. I am fun to be around and ask interesting questions and laugh at the appropriate moments--but, I tire of almost every group I'm around; even at other people's parties.
I think social interaction is limited by my own shortcomings and personality.
Boo-hoo for me.

jw doctrine teaches that the 1,000 years of christ corresponds to "judgment day," and everyone who has not already been judged will be resurrected from the dead.
the exceptions would be those who died during the flood, the destruction of sodom and gomorrah, and a few odd individuals.
but that's only the people living today.
If you take the current population of Earth at present you could fit everybody into the State of Texas with the same population density as Paris, France.
That leaves a little bit of room everywhere else.
Personally, when they all move into Texas--that's when I move out!!
subtract one book from the bible and add one of your own.
what is the name of your book and what is it about?
which do you get rid of and which do you replace it with?

i'd vote for revelation since every nutcase who ever came down the pike has tackled it verse for verse and applied it to the time in which he was living.
ever notice that?
no matter what decade or century, people reading the bible always think that it applies to their time.

Which book do YOU think has caused the most problems?
i was just thinking about how so many were so caught up in the dubs for so many years, and at the time we probably would have all felt that the truth and spreading the good news was our passion.
so what is your passion now?
what makes you tick and excites your senses and captivates you?
I think of myself as a mental gardener. I keep rooting out the weeds and the grubs that gnaw at the roots of my sanity.
All those years of learning and believing false ideas!
I have a passion for discovering something I think is wrong and changing it!
There seems to be no end to weeds!
i watched two movies (they're only on dvd--i finally broke down and got one) that were the best i've seen in a while:
house of sand and fog
(ben kingsley & jennifer connelly about an iranian general lives in america)
EQUILIBRIUM
A Matrix/1984/Brave New World/Farenheit451 style film that evokes
LIFE VERY MUCH LIKE BEING A jw!
.
i never understood why they published the "awake magazine".
the watchtower magazine is all they need for their study.. i think the awake magazine is more of a bait to catch innocent people door to door, with their scientific and medical stories.
MONEY!
You get more for two magazines than for one.
GUILT!
Denying rank and file JW's the liberty to read secular, scientific or political writings; the Brooklyn cosmocrats have to substitue their propaganda versions of same.
PUBLIC SERVICE!
By lifting news stories from outside sources (rewriting them) and printing them in the magazine, the society can claim credit for giving advance notice of certain trends in medicine, science and technology.
BAIT AND SWITCH!
As you mentioned in your premise; Awake! looks like an information source. However, it is an apple with a worm inside. Insidious subconscious doctrinal issues can be spoon fed to the unsuspecting.
MONEY!
Oh, I said that already :)
